Advent Calendars

A few years ago I bought a wooden one for the DGCs which hinges open like a book and has 24 drawers. Every year I look out for small items to put in the drawers. This year the most interesting items are tiny mouth organs and friendship bracelets. The brothers aged now 7 and 10 really like it.

My daughter aged 44 insists on an advent calendar and this year it contains little books of the Mr and Little Miss Men!!

I always buy nativity scene chocolate ones in M&S to make some reference to Christmas for them

Advent calendars to me are the beautiful glittery German ones we had in the 60s - nothing inside but a little illustration. There were 3 of us and we had to take turns opening the windows.
I don’t like the ones today and sadly can’t find any of the old-style ones to buy.

You can still get them at museums and art galleries.

Personally I hate the ones with gifts in with a venom. Advent is about preparing for Christmas not celebrating with gifts because you can't wait. It's just another way to make money out of people to me.

I bought a lovely one from the national trust this year- no chocolate, expensive make-up or alcohol- just an old-fashioned picture to open every day!

It won't be long before pre- Advent calendar calendars are on sale, and people will buy them!

I still haven't seen a Christmas tree yet and it's November 6th- come on people...!

I usually treat myself to an Angela Harding calendar as the Lino prints are so beautiful.

This year my DD3 has given me a St Eval calendar with a different scented tea light each day.

I’m really looking forward to trying out different scents.

Love an Advent calendar. Always buy them for my Grandchildren, this year I bought them "Squishmellows" ones with little toys inside.

My DH buys himself one with little bottles of wine inside and he buys me the JL one, our pre Christmas treat.

You can usually get those ones at Cards for Christmas sales (I think that's what it's called) often in Churches.

I have put two dog treat ones on my grocery order. One each for my grandpuppies .

I am a fan of Advent Calendars.

I get DH a wine one, as it’s a good way to find new wines.

I have purchased the M & S Beauty one for me and DD for many years.

All the GC get personalised chocolate ones from us.

I also send DH links to several swish beauty/fragrance ones, hopefully he will surprise me.

I always treat myself to a corny just-little-pictures one. Never had one as a child, so I’m making up for it!

I’ve never bought any with chocolate or anything else.

Theyr a lovely tradition.

My daughter always gives me an advent calendar and I really enjoy opening it every day, eating the wee chocolate and looking at the nativity scene until Christmas Day she’s really so kind I love her to bits
