All the chats seemed to be about 2024. Or will this year be predictably the same? I read Phoenix's poem for the first time and had tears of laughter pouring down my face!! It is such a recognisable palaver - especially if you cannot find the huge Le Creuset because you have no idea where the removal men have put it!

The only nod to Christmas in 2024 was shovelling a turkey in the oven. Unable to find the crackers (still can't). There are two boxes somewhere. It will probably be the same this year. Junior daughter + 5 in NY and have not told me if they are coming over. Other two ACs + 4 no speakies, so they won't be here. Junior D does not grasp that I no longer live with M & S & Tesco just down the road, but in the middle of a Norfolk field, so can't just "nip" and get something at the last minute. That is what annoys me more than anything. Grrr.

What a timely vent, lovetchsmile—Christmas does sneak up with its baggage, doesn't it? From crammed tables in the old days to these scattershot gatherings now, with half the brood jetting off or just... silent. Your New York dilemma tugs at my heart; I remember waving off my girl to Canada, tears and all. But oh, the joys of adaptation—a quiet Norfolk Yuletide with a crackling fire and perhaps a puzzle by the window? Don't forget the crackers; I spy some jolly ones on eBay already. Grateful for threads like this to share the load. What's one tradition you're determined to keep?
