That's Christmas Ruined Then

You know every year you read all the stories of the mouldy veg and the rancid turkeys and not being able to get any pigs in blankets and how it absolutely RUINED their Christmas?

And you think to yourself "get a grip it's just a bit of food, hardly the end of the world"

Well..and I'm almost shaking whilst typing...Sainsbury's are not going to be delivering my 2 tubs of TWIGLETS. I'm absolutely bereft. Christmas is the only time I have them and as I tip them into a bowl I think of my Mum, and how magical Christmas seemed way back then. And not only will I have no twiglets, but they've substituted them with a pack of cheese and onion crisps - when I already have 2 on my order.

Well, that's my Christmas RUINED - I'm off to report this to the Daily Mail.

Signed - Inconsolable and indignant ferry23

My D has just been to pick her Tesco order up.
11 items no longer in stock.
She didn’t say if Twiglets were included.
I have just had a visit from step GC, guess what, 1 more bottle of Baileys!!

My son said something inane such as that the year I forgot the wretched pigs in their blankets. I felt compelled to make a batch of Yorkshire puddings this morning, those also are an expectation, particularly with the grandchildren. I personally don't think turkey needs them as an accompaniment given umpteen vegetables, stuffing and pigs, but God forbid the absence of those could add to a ruined Christmas. Just go with the flow it makes for an easy life.

My D has just rung, she walked down to the Tesco petrol station,5 minutes from her house, which has a convenience store and got all the items missing from her click and collect.
She said she should have gone there in the first place instead of driving 11 miles.
Probably wouldn’t have had a turkey though.

I remember going to my local Co-op last year to pick up something fairly insignificant that I'd run out of. I scanned the shelves, it was about 3 30 and it occurred to me there were all the components for a Christmas dinner including the turkey. Imagine just sauntering in, no crowds and picking the lot up. Job donegrin

I love the one sprout delivery. Gosh they must have laughed. I suppose they could have picked up the phone and checked. At least as you say it looked good.

I have always wanted to leave the food shopping till 3.30 on C Eve and pot luck what I find., but it could go badly wrong and the only things on the shelves are Easter Eggs!

Crack on with the opened bottle, then just drink them in date order.

With luck, you will have got through your stash by next Christmas.

🍸 (Couldn’t see a Baileys e moji, but thought of your Babycham and maraschino cherries).

Yes I think you would have to hold your nerve HelterSkelter. Friend told me one year they were going to their daughter's for Christmas dinner having made the commitment to pick up the turkey, left it until Christmas Eve and couldn't get one. Father rang daughter to tell her with a "what shall we do?" her "Don't come" grin they managed to get a nice joint of beef, but daughter was not best pleased, she had all the accompaniments for turkey. Christmas ruinedhmm first world problems

Usedtobeblonde Baileys is delicious in coffee instead of milk. I have a Bailey's coffee on Christmas and birthday mornings. Highly recommended.😋

Many years ago i forgot to get cloves for the bread sauce. I was so stressed I got in the car on Christmas day and drove around any open shops I could find until I found them. I'm sad now that stress was the biggest think I remember.

A lovely, funny post.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all whether or not you have your twiglets!

NannyKnit Wed 24-Dec-25 14:12:29

Send an alert out to your local Facebook group if you have one. Maybe someone on there got some as an unwanted substitution. You never know ….

LinAnn52 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:15:05

I picked up a click and collect on Monday from Morrisons. The chicken crowns were there, but chicken gravy substituted with beef gravy! No tasty stuffing, just plain sausagemeat stuffing. No roulade dessert, no substitute. Several items went back but still charged for. After requesting a refund online, we have to wait 10 working days for it!

Littlebea02 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:20:22

I’m so sorry about your twiglets. If I had some I’d emailed them over to you but I don’t but I had to laugh. I really did.!!😂😂😂

Jenz48 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:26:31

Love these posts really making me smile. The wonderful Good Life episode about Christmas is on BBC4 this evening and well worth a watch.smile

Earthmother9 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:28:53

Think yourself lucky, my boilers just packed up.

Mollygo Wed 24-Dec-25 14:33:28

Sorry about your twiglets Ferry23
I had a similar heart wrenching call from my B-i-L on Monday, because M&S had none of their M&S Christmas puddings left where they are and “could I see if they had one in our local M&S?”
I didn’t even look, because I wasn’t planning to do a 160mile round trip to deliver it. I just evaded the question by saying, “Probably not. The queues outside Marks were horrendous from early on this morning . Why not try Aldi?

Catgrann Wed 24-Dec-25 14:34:25

grin

Ilovedragonflies Wed 24-Dec-25 14:39:44

I saw a post this morning where someone had ordered a turkey as part of their main Christmas food delivery and received a small box of frozen chicken dippers as a substitute...

Magenta8 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:46:36

Does anyone remember the Mr Bean episode where he made Twiglets by cutting twigs off a tree and dipping them in Marmite? Just a thought.

Grammaretto Wed 24-Dec-25 14:49:35

I laughed my way through scrubbing my burnt pan this morning thanks to this thread ferry so thankyou.

I'm obviously not meant to have chestnuts this Christmas. I tried 3 shops until I found some but then forgot all about them boiling away on the hob (in order to remove their skins).

I am definitely not trying again now 🤣😅

Merry Christmas everyone

Pebbles101 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:53:42
