That's Christmas Ruined Then

You know every year you read all the stories of the mouldy veg and the rancid turkeys and not being able to get any pigs in blankets and how it absolutely RUINED their Christmas?

And you think to yourself "get a grip it's just a bit of food, hardly the end of the world"

Well..and I'm almost shaking whilst typing...Sainsbury's are not going to be delivering my 2 tubs of TWIGLETS. I'm absolutely bereft. Christmas is the only time I have them and as I tip them into a bowl I think of my Mum, and how magical Christmas seemed way back then. And not only will I have no twiglets, but they've substituted them with a pack of cheese and onion crisps - when I already have 2 on my order.

Well, that's my Christmas RUINED - I'm off to report this to the Daily Mail.

Signed - Inconsolable and indignant ferry23

Well, I got my order from Waitrose and he handed me my substitutions, a sprig of rosemary and some haddock.
"Hey ", I said, " That's neither the thyme nor the plaice".

What’s a Milkman Magenta?

Magenta8 Fri 26-Dec-25 12:21:35

JennyCee There is a company that runs a milk delivery service, you can find them online.

The milk is delivered in glass bottles (Remember them?) to my front door at around 5am. I never see who delivers the milk so they might not be men, they could be elves. They also deliver a huge range of other stuff, including Twiglets, often overpriced.

just came back on this thread to find out how many nervous breakdowns were averted by last minute mercy dashes to twiglet mines, blue lights flashing etc, Second best attempts at slicing bread crusts thinly and dipping them into marmite, or the obligation to eat a whole box of chocolates in order to remove the thoughts and tastes of marmite from your mind (and mouth) By whatever means , well done you have survived to Boxing Day and have time for emergency shopping before New Year, If supplies are short I gather that an urgent flight to the caribbean or to australia may provide the necessary. I am taking the matyrs tone and doing without so that others may enjoy, sigh sigh

Our cooked Christmas dinner remains untouched, since we couldn’t/didn’t feel like eating.
That’s Christmas Ruined Then!

On the other hand, A&E was almost empty so they hadn’t even put the waiting time screen on. Collected, taken to A&E, triaged, treated and back home within 3 hours.
Maybe not quite ruined.

What exciting lives you GNetters lead.
I was somewhat disconcerted to discover that I had purchased industrial quantities of too - small bin liners. We have had some waste to dispose of ( eleven of us in total) and my kitchen bin has been resting, untroubled, whilst I fill the stupid little bags, endlessly.
I'll be the manic woman in the supermarket in a few days, shrieking," you must have the 50 litre bin liners".
I shan't be buying any food, of course.

I literally can't stand Baileys and have no idea why anyone would drink it.
I like cream.
I like Grand Marnier.
I like Cognac.
Why would you mix cream and liqueur in the same bottle.?
Cream or chantilly on a raspberry tartlette or in an ice cream sundae - brilliant.
Don't like it mixed with alcohol.

What a good thing we're not all alike! 😀

Ooh we had Baileys Carte d'Or vanilla ice cream. Very nice it was too.

Aveline Fri 26-Dec-25 18:34:23

Just reading this drove me to my bottle of Bailey's. Yum!

I can’t get onto my Apple TV. That could almost ruin Christmas, but not quite!

Mellnau Thu 12-Feb-26 20:15:49

What exactly are twiglets actually?

Mellnau Thu 12-Feb-26 20:18:32

I have found out just now! 😊
