The wooden dog is the star! I remember him.

"Lighten up Grandma!" 😆

I love it, and yes I cried.

(I have that dog in the loft)

Haven’t seen it as yet, but my fave past Christmas ad was the one with the little dragon who was ‘different’ which made me well up every time.😢

I loved it, up there with the best from years past.
Like many we had a ‘pickles’ Fisher Price dog. Our elder son needed a preloved toy for his primary class Bring and Buy charity event.
I donated the FP dog, unbeknown to him.
His little face was in raptures when he came running out having bought said dog for his little brother!

About 10 years ago my daughter worked part time in John Lewis. After the launch of the Christmas ad where the old man was living on the moon looking through a telescope at a family/little girl enjoying Christmas..ect. staff were asked at the morning briefing , what they thought, my daughter said she thought it was creepy....she was told off by her section manager and called hard hearted by some of the long standing staff... poor lass, but she held her ground!
In those days conformity was very strong amongst staff. I believe it has become a lot more relaxed these days.

First time a celeb has acted in it apparently (apart from Elton John playing himself many years ago). I like Dame Kristin Scott Thomas. She is 66y old now!

Awful.
I know the point is to make us buy things but this ad seems particularly unsubtle, and in your face.
The kids come across as rather ill mannered and spoilt, but even so, the message that the only way to reach them is by buying stuff, (preferably glittery, preferably from John Lewis), is just crass. No hint at all that maybe giving your grandchildren attention, real interest in their lives, non judgmental love might be important, as well as gifts.
Sorry, bit of a rant. I really didn't like it.

The Christmas adverts are a tradition I know, but I’d rather they scrapped the making of them (must be expensive)
and lowered the food prices before Christmas.

It was beautifully made and acted and stunning to watch. BUT the overall message seemed to me to be 'Come and buy a load of Christmas tat at John Lewis.'

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Nov-26 09:27:55

BeeYouTea the Gran didn’t buy them stuff she turned her office into a play den for them and played with them.

I think the message was that she was trying to connect with them and succeeded…

Magenta yo do realise that an adverts main aim is to sell the company and its products…

I still watch the bouncing on a trampoline boxer Buster. And the Mrs Santa with Janet ? Flying a helicopter.
At Christmas of course not during the year. Will watch the latest and see how it matches up.

Obviously.

Crikey. Lighten up Grandma. I don't think. She got that den together mighty quickly.
Love the little FP dog though that takes me back 45 years. His voice isnt right though. I expect everyone will be trawling eBay for similar. Ours passed on to smaller children way back.

I like Kristin S T. Wont bother to wstch again though.

Not a fan. I think John Lewis has lost the plot. And it doesn’t make me feel good as a grandmother. I get the message from it that I might be out of touch with my grandchildren and the remedy is, as someone else said here, to buy a load of tat. To be cynical for a moment, I think this advert was devised by a load of 25 year olds …and it just makes me feel sad.
