Thank you very much for the flowers, and the hamper of Duchy Originals organic goods. I normally only have that much Duchy stuff in my cupboards at Christmas. It was very welcome this time of year, and my grandchildren have already eaten the chocolate orange biscuits.

I have given Sandi Toksvig's book to my son's partner, as she is Danish and the only one I know who can pronounce her name properly. Apart from which I already have a copy. It's very funny, and there are lots of interesting snippets about other civilisations.

Thank you very much for my Jeremy Paxman signed book on Britain's Great War and the Penelope Lively book Ammonites and Leaping Fish. My reading has certainly blossomed into different genres since I joined Gransnet.
