'They' might have to read through all the posts to weed out the p* takers!

Ana Sat 06-Sept-14 22:32:42

Bit of a hassle for 'them'! Still, they will make these rods for their own backs...grin

Elegran Sat 06-Sept-14 22:32:55

No, they just need to read the one that comes out of the hat and if it is a pisstake, then discard it and try again.

But it only matters if they are planning to quote the winning entry. If they just mean to name the winner, it could say anything at all.

I agree with all you other posters (real or not), I just love everything about being a grandma.

annodomini Sat 06-Sept-14 22:49:18

Oh Elegran, of course! How logical you are!

Surely the GRAND stands for being able to spoil the little darlings and then give them back to their parents while you put your feet up and have a nice cup of tea!

Is it cheating to post twice? hmm

Its about knowledge, being trusted and giving love!

Grandparenting is the Grand Finale of that show called 'Life'

Coach Sun 07-Sept-14 08:52:11

Having the time money and most of all patience to enjoy their growing up

torrestyn1 Sun 07-Sept-14 09:54:41

Get reacquainted with the child in you by joining your grandchild staring at clouds, exploring leafs and twigs. Grandparent Love is everything, it is given no matter what, with no exceptions or requirements.

Its GRAND to be there when they need aid,
Its GRAND to be there when they need a nursemaid.
Its GRAND to help sore knees after a fall
Its GRAND to be there when their driving the parents up the wall!
It GRAND to be there to give them a treat
Having GRANDchildren is hard to beat!

annodomini Sun 07-Sept-14 10:30:09

Oh boy! Am I glad I don't know this mythical gran, always full of sweetness and light. What a bore she would be! I prefer to think a gran should be a human being - capable of spells of grumpiness!

Candelle Sun 07-Sept-14 10:57:14

The sheer joy of seeing the love in the grand-children's eyes whenever one sees them is unparalleled. There IS nothing grander.

The happiness, felt on both sides, can almost be overwhelming...... oh and it gives me a chance to jump in puddles once again!

dijon Sun 07-Sept-14 14:49:09

Unfortunately, don't see them very often so this would be a GRAND-parenting opportunity to meet up and enjoy a togetherness experience.

elliesnan Sun 07-Sept-14 15:44:16

having the experience & knowledge to understand your kids & grand children.
To make time for family is being GRAND

agnesP Sun 07-Sept-14 16:25:06

What puts the 'grand' there is taking them for a grand tour with your buss pass - at least, that's what the 'Guardian' says...

Grandparents are grand because they are of a different generation. They are the link which allows us to discover where we have come from.
Their stories and experiences of the past not only delight us but they help shape our future and who we are because they teach us skills and values which otherwise would be lost.
It is a privilege for the grandparents to play such an important role and also a privilege for the grandchildren to have the security and sense of belonging that such family members bring.

Maralyn7272 Sun 07-Sept-14 20:49:49

Being able to give them all your love and be loved unconditionally in return. Being able to spoil them as much as you want and see their happy faces when they get presents or treats. Being able to help them with homework when mummy and daddy are too busy. Being able to take them out for the day ( and then return them !) and being able to take them on holiday to give mummy and daddy a break. Being able to read them bedside stories when you've been called upon for last minute babysitting services. Being able to give advice to mummy and daddy as you've got lots more experience. Being able to share their fun and laughter as well as their tears.
Being there for them whenever they need you - even if it's sometimes at the end of a phone. And last of all just being you!

maggieriordan Sun 07-Sept-14 21:39:58

Having a lifetime of knowledge and experience makes being a grandma a piece of cake

kirsty45 Sun 07-Sept-14 21:49:58

It shouldn't be GRAND, as that has an end, 1000.

It is limitless joy at all the fun parts, learning from before and handing off any difficult bits, if wanted.

MamaCaz Sun 07-Sept-14 22:11:00

To play with the little ones, to spoil them, to guide them, to share their laughter and tears, to feel their tiny hands in mine when we go for a walk, to see life through their fresh young eyes, to lose my inhibitions as we do silly walks down the lane - then to hand them back to their parents so I can have a good night's sleep.

Aye, it's grand )

marieingham Sun 07-Sept-14 22:26:41

All of the above :-)

JoJoB Mon 08-Sept-14 09:48:37

Watching your children become wonderful parents is the biggest joy in the world! It is also lovely to be at a more financially secure time in life and able to treat the grandchildren, reliving the times when your own children were tiny.
