To be able to use the hindsight of having been a parent and actually being able to know now what we wish we had known then and with more time, patience and experience to make it all count!

Being a GRANDparent is one of lifes mega blessings! It gives us unique relationships with our grandchildren and allows us to re define the relationship with our own children. The Grand in Grandparent says it all, it give us other amazing experiences in lifes Grand adventure.

Grandparents have that much more time to enjoy the little things - the things they missed when their children were children.. without the distraction of work (well hopefully not!) & laundry, cooking dinners, ironing, etc!
Kids don't want money, or gifts - they want time. Time spent taking them out to play, out for a bike ride, playing a board game, snuggling on the sofa watching a good film or reading a book together. Grandparents offer the time that parents don't always have - & that puts the GRAND in Grandparents smile

It's grand to be a grandparent as you get all the fun without the hassle, you can spoil them and no one can tell you off for it and most importantly they keep you young and down with the kids innit.

My little grandson Taylor makes me feel GRAND every time he holds my hand and proudly calls me GRAND-MA <3 :-)

Grand is slang for thousand therefore it stands to reason that grandparents are a thousand times better than parents.

Being able to spend precious time with them.

Being consistent and fair in Listening, Understanding, Passing no judgement. Be honest, and never undermining the parents, nor belittling the young. Love 'em, warts and all and let them know you do. Whatever.

happytraveller Tue 09-Sept-14 09:19:35

What puts the GRAND in grandparents for me is...Being able to be silly, sing silly songs, dance around and make silly sounds and I'm the coolest person in the room. So different when they get to teenage years Lol. Love being a Nanny so much it's knocked 20 years off me.

The trust that I see in my grandchildren's eyes puts the 'Grand' in Grandparenting for me
An honour smile

Grand piano? Not quite, but watching our little grandson discover that he can make music on our upright piano has been wonderful. The next generation of musicians is alive and well and definitely puts the GRAND in grandparenting!

being there for your grand childs and spending quality time with them

It's a grand privilege and a grand pleasure, to make every memory one that they'll treasure.

Grand stands for all our learning, knowledge of a multitude of things, ideals, compassion and, above all, our love that surpasses everything and they know we are always there for them no matter what whether good or bad. Grandchildren are indeed a blessing who we treasure every day, love beyond reason but who go home to their parents who were once ours to raise in the same way as they do now.

Children grow so fast before you know it they go their different ways - remembering that you're the one that gave them golden days. Enjoyed some 'grand' times with my children and now doing so all over again with my grandchildren!

trisher Tue 09-Sept-14 20:00:02

Glorious
Rivetting
Awesome
Natural
Delightful
A chance to do wild things and act irresponsibly without being locked up!

gardeningsuey Wed 10-Sept-14 09:42:38

Their little hands in mine
Their smiles when they awake from naps
Enjoyment of the day's adventures
Captured in our cherished snaps

I thank you, little grandsons four
We simply could't ask for more....
than times shared with Opa, you and me
We feel we're the happiest we could be!

Yes tired at times, of course we are
But we don't need to look too far
To see my parents, 90 years, who will -
Find beloved toys to play with still!

I smile as these few lines I write
(They may seem quaint or even trite)
But you asked me to say what makes the role 'grand'
and having read this, you'll now understand!
