Having two little grandchildren has given hubby and I a whole new lease of life. We've done the cruises, and indulgent holidays, now we like to go to the local park and play on the swings, or to the seaside and build sandcastles. We have a garage full of outdoor toys. Hard to believe our garage used to be so tidy. Our garden has a trampoline and set of swings. It's like be parents again, but more fun. I can just see life with the grandchildren getting better and better.

The Grand stands for the fact that you get to experience the GRAND parts of their lives, the love, the fun and laughter, the awe of watching them turn into the wonderful little people they were always meant to be. You also mainly miss out on all the HARD parts like the sleepless nights, some of the tantrums etc.

I think it's being more patient than I was in my twenties and also more reflective. Experience is a wonderful, priceless thing.

Being able to spoil the children rotten without the guilt associated with being their parent!

sarah2000h Fri 05-Sept-14 13:03:43

Grandparents are Grand. My grandmother looked after her retired parents, disabled husband and two young children and she only only had a factory workers wage. She never complained and always seemed to be happy. That really is grand.

These dictionary definitions do it for me: - Magnificent and imposing; Large, ambitious, or impressive in scope or scale; Of high rank and behaving in an appropriately proud or dignified way; denoting the largest or most important item of its kind. I think it pretty much covers how our GC see us and how we see them.

For me it is Grand to see my children enjoying being parents and making such a good job of it and watching Mr N having so much fun as a Granddad. To hear that one of my GS has said "Grandma is great" is the highest praise I could have. Now that really is GRAND.

Nelliemoser Fri 05-Sept-14 14:00:04

Jingle, Flower etc! grin My thoughts as well.

You can certainly tell from this thread, that by all the new names appearing, there are a lot of lurkers out there on GN.
Out of interest.
How many of you are established "compers" and have been on GN for some time just looking at the competitions and not a lot else and who, if any, occasional contributes to the forums?

Approximately 23 names I recognise and 130 or so individual posts, (at a rough count trying to exclude some repeated posts. )

Perhaps we novices could do with a tutorial in the art of Comping.
It might help me spend less time on GN engaging in silly banter. discussion. wink

What an utterly boring thread. (Yawn, yawn) List upon list of sentimental platitudes (sorry to those who are actually sincere ) Actually ,is this spam ? Why give all those prizes to one person? Is it appealing to people's greed? confused

hushpuppie Fri 05-Sept-14 14:18:03

being able to do all the good stuff and buying them treats and being able to act like a child again its grand

joshua123 Fri 05-Sept-14 14:44:03

GRAND,the thousand things we do and receive for and from our grandchildren.

nightowl Fri 05-Sept-14 15:00:56

We can't stop them Greenfinch. They have the prizes in their sights! We have another month of this dross. And as jingl pointed out, the winner will be picked at random so there's really no point in trying to post anything interesting. [bored] emoticon

Greenfinch Fri 05-Sept-14 15:06:27

Point taken nightowl. The whole thing seem very, very odd to me. Out of chacacter for GN
