The competition closes at midday on 5 October. The winner will be drawn at random and we will notify them by email on the same day.

GOOD LUCK!

It's just GRAND being a Granny to four of the nicest people I know. The boys come with baggage and sometimes it's a struggle, but little arms hugging saying "Granny don't go" when it's time to leave makes all the hassle worthwhile. I love them, they love me, what else do we need.

janerowena Fri 05-Sept-14 19:53:37

We could place bets on whether it will be an oldie or a newbie?

bamba Fri 05-Sept-14 20:00:35

The GRAND in grandparent is the code we all stand by:

Give
Reliable
Advice (but)
Never
Disapprove

An active Granny I aim to be,not a doddery OAP

Nelliemoser Fri 05-Sept-14 20:32:44

There is clearly a pattern to doing these competitions.
Mnemonics and poems seem to feature large.

I had to look mnemonic up to spell it and could only just get a near enough go at the spelling for Google to recognise it.

My Mum said to me when I was a teenager, I'm so looking forward to when you get married and I become a grandparent and I can have all the fun but give them back at the end of the day. I used to think that what she was saying was you are hard work and a pain to me. Now I'm in that position with two grown up children and one 14 year old I'm so beginning to get what she meant. I think it is that element that puts the grand into grandparent you are there for them both your grown up children and grandchildren to love and care for them, help as much as you can with babysitting, advice offered when asked for (and not before) and be an important part of their lives but it is also your role to stand back and let your children be the Mothers and Fathers that you nurtured and raised to be caring responsible parents in their own right.

noahsark Fri 05-Sept-14 20:37:16

It simply is grand to be blessed with grandchildren

Lotie Fri 05-Sept-14 22:26:39

It's hundreds of times better than being a parent.

durhamjen Fri 05-Sept-14 22:34:39

There are plenty of people who read the site but do not post. Quite often people say they have been on for months and this is their first post.
What makes a newbie an oldie, janer and others?

Ana Fri 05-Sept-14 22:44:06

Anyway, there doesn't seem to be much point in posting about how grand it is being a grandparent as 'the winner will be drawn at random'...(see OP).

fiorinda Fri 05-Sept-14 22:47:09

Whats most grand about being a grand parent is seeing their little faces light up when they see you, because Granny is always patient and kind and fun!

phillym Fri 05-Sept-14 22:51:45

What puts the GRAND into Grandparenting is the bond I have with my grandchildren. They are an extension of me and my daughter and I feel just as deeply for them as I did my own children. I love that with having grandchildren you get the chance to experience the magic of little ones all over again and the continuation of your family. Their smiles when they see me light up their faces and my heart swells. Being a Grandparent is a blessing that is often tiring smile but never beaten and I love it!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 05-Sept-14 23:08:54

How do they pick one "at random"? Do they close their eyes and whizz the thread up and down, then stop, open their eyes, and whichever one the cursor is on gets the prize?

Beebumble Fri 05-Sept-14 23:37:52

Grandchildren/godchildren are all of the fun and none of the responsibility :-).

durhamjen Fri 05-Sept-14 23:44:54

You have a good chance of winning, jingle, with the number of posts you put on. Unless they do not count those who put on more than one. Perhaps we should read the terms and conditions.

durhamjen Fri 05-Sept-14 23:51:59

It seems you will only be entered if you have done it correctly, so all the discussion will not count.
The competition has been put on four other sites, which explains all the new people. Maybe HQ get fed up of reading the same names all the time.
They choose the winner after encrypting all our data, so there's no cheating. They cannot choose an oldie or a newbie.

A grand might be worth a thousand pounds, but a grand parent is infinitely more valuable cos the monkeys are worth much much more than a monkey!

robrobin Sat 06-Sept-14 00:26:00

Baby sitting puts the grand into grandparents but even grander is returning them to their parents!!

dragon123 Sat 06-Sept-14 05:38:58

Being GRAND in everything you do and having a GRAND time with the GRAND children

kittylester Sat 06-Sept-14 06:53:46

Four other sites Jen? Which ones?. Compers won't come back and post - they won't even come back to see that we are chuntering about them!

I can't complain as I have won some fabulous prizes on GN but I do resent people who have no interest in us, taking prizes that could go to people who use the site 'properly'. Lurkers are one thing, they might partake eventually, but people who enter competitions and run make me cross!

They are missing so much too, as the joy of GN is the threads!

Nelliemoser Sat 06-Sept-14 07:56:12

What is correctly?? With regard to filling it in. Or perhaps I should read the terms and conditions! My library book is probably a lot more interesting though.

Stansgran Sat 06-Sept-14 08:08:48

But would you want any of the prizes? I generally put my name down for a book if it interests me but I've heard there are competition magazines for people who love going in for competitions. And this reminds me to go and thank HQ for the Invention of Wings which arrived when I was out yesterday.

Nelliemoser Sat 06-Sept-14 08:11:14

I have tried looking at terms and conditions for this and I am none the wiser. How can it logically or legally be a competition if the winner is chosen randomly? That sounds to me like a lottery.
Looking at another comping site it seems to be at least an opportunity to sell advertising to individuals who apply.
I wonder who is sponsoring it and what they hope to gain long term.

Nelliemoser Sat 06-Sept-14 08:12:45

DD had just had to buy a bigger car travel system for the boy. Pity the comp did not come earlier.

Stansgran Sat 06-Sept-14 08:14:37

I liked Micelf 's entry best. Think that should win.
