The most unromantic gift I was given one christmas was a pair of bathroom scales. Also one christmas a sponge scourer for washing the dishes.

My first husband bought me a lovely gift wrapped present for my birthday, an iron, he wasn't romantic at all. My second husband bought me an alarm clock for my birthday also not a romantic. My third husband, well I have to go with him and show him what I want and he pays for it. Having said that, last year he did get me a bunch of red roses on Valentine's day so maybe he is a little bit of a romantic.

My DH bought me a breadmaker one Christmas. It was a very expensive one at the time and I sulked and refused to open it as he usually bought me jewellery - I was a spoiled brat. I have never used it but he has kept the family in lovely loaves ever since. I never received anymore kitchen stuff though!

Not at all romantic, but I did want them both. A chainsaw for my birthday one year and an ancient landrover a year or two later.

The chainsaw was a petrol one and I never did master starting it with the pull cord. The landrover has cost us a fortune in repairs over the years, but I love it still..

I once got a frying pan from my Ex husband. I won't tell you what I wanted to do with it. Ha ha

I was given an answerphone machine (back in the day when they used little micro tapes) ... is it just me or was that a pretty unromantic gift? (please don't enter me into the competition. I'm not that romantic myself so if I won the prize ... it would be wasted on me)

A thermal vest ; a present from my husband, for Valentine's Day. It was admittedly quite pretty. He thought it would be a good gift after I had been saying that it was cold in the house. Unfortunately he had failed to notice-or ignored-that I had been looking at cashmere throws at the time.

It must be the garden hose he bought me,not to save me carrying a watering can but to save water when watering my pot plants,and the stupid thing is he is not a mean person in any way really.

Tickets for a guided tour around Anfield. As a non Liverpool fan I was not impressed !

One year after huge hints for a bottle of perfume and roses for my birthday, i got a small scented bar of soap and a small box of the chocolates roses!!

My husband once bought me an electric sander for my birthday after borrowing some money from me

I was so excited a few years ago when my boyfriend of 15 years said that he'd like to buy me something special but that I had to accompany him to the shop to purchase it. Well you can imagine what I was thinking....at last!! After only ten minutes in Milletts I had the perfect pair of waterproof trousers. The following year, on Valentines Day he took me away for the weekend and proposed to me. It was raining, and I was delighted to say yes in my best Peter Storm waterproof trousers.

One Wedding Anniversary DH gave me a vacuum Flask. On another occasion he asked me if I'd like a box of chocolates or a bet on a horse. I chose the chocolates. Who says romance is dead.

I've been really lucky, I can't think of a single time when either of my husbands have given me anything that wasn't delightful. But my cousin once told me, sadly, that she always got exactly what she wanted, and beautiful flowers for every occasion, because her (very wealthy) husband just told her to go and buy whatever she wanted and he paid.

But ... on his 60th I gave DH a lorryload of horse manure ...we had just bought a 2 acre garden.

A cheap perfume who did not smell like a perfume. Apart from that I was pretty lucky.

The least romantic thing my husband gave to me was a tin of white paint for my birthday, so that I could re paint the kitchen ceiling, when he was away playing with his radio controlled toys for the day. There have been many instances over the years so I no longer expect romance because my husband is as romantic as a wet lettuce!

A small bottle of vinegar...that had been opened! DH came through the door saying he'd got me a present (he never bought presents) so I was thrilled until he produced the 'present'. They say it is the thought that counts....we were together until he died, a few months after our 25th Wedding Anniversary...... and I did get a few of better presents over the years.
