In our latest competition with Orion, we're giving you the chance to win a £100 Waitrose voucher and a copy of Greatest Hits by number one bestselling author Laura Barnett, a story about the power of reflection and how much our memories mean to us.

If you could choose just 16 moments to define your entire life, what would they be? That’s what Cass Wheeler must do. A musician born in 1950, Cass is now taking one day to select the 16 songs in her repertoire that have meant the most to her.

And behind each song lies a story - from the day her mother abandoned her, to her passionate first love, to the moment she lost everything. The dreams, the failures, the second chances.

So, what are the songs that mean the most to you, and evoke your most precious memories? Perhaps it was the first dance at your wedding, or the song repeated on the radio throughout your first holiday, or the only music that would rock your baby to sleep. Tell us in the comments below for the chance to win an £100 Waitrose voucher and a copy of Greatest Hits! We also have 25 copies of the book for runners-up.

Greatest Hits is published by W&N, an imprint of Orion, and is available online and from all good booksellers.

Please post your entries below by 11am 16 April.

Usual T&Cs apply.

It has to be - If you don't know me by now - Simply Red. Sums it up really. It can be a romantic song, or even a make up song. I often play it for a little reminisce !

I probably have far too many special songs all of which evoke memories, but one of them has to be 'You are my Sunshine' which my dad used to sing to my daughter (his first grandchild) when she was little. As she got a bit older they used to sing it to each other down the phone. I'm flooded with memories of those precious days whenever I hear that song!

Stairway to heaven was the song that my dad & I sang together. He was in a band & he'd always get me up on the stage at the end to sing stairway to heaven while he played it on the guitar. Some years later, when he was only 45, it was played at his funeral. My only regret is that I didn't sing it but I'm not sure I could have kept it together...

My song is 'A World of Begin Again' by Vera Lynn. This song brings butterflies to my stomach. It is such a poignant song, evoking the hope from the Second World War.

One song/hymn that means a lot to myself and my husband is one that the school children sing at the end of the term. It's particularly emotional when they left primary school to go to senior school. It's called

"One more step along the way I go'

When my boyfriend and I first met, he introduced me to Elvis Presely. The song "can't help falling in love with you" has become a favourite and it makes me teary when I hear it off.
For Christmas,I tried to make him aDIY cup which said "wise men say, only fools rush in" but it ended up a mess so is now stashed in my cupboard!

My Dad always used to play the guitar and sing Elvis Presley songs to me and my sister at bedtime. The one I remember most was Old Sheep. Unfortunately that one made us cry

Owl city - fireflies. We forgot my birthing cd when we went to hospital and this was one of the only songs on my phone. Such beautiful lyrics!
