It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

To be able to enjoy Christmas knowing my daughter in law has had a complete pathological response regarding her breast cancer treatment. Knowing she now has a cancer free life is the best gift ever for me, my son, family and everyone who knows and loves her. This surely is a gift to treasure.

My best gift will be to give to a good cause and know that my contribution is going to help someone less fortunate.

I find Christmas hard for lots of reasons so for the last few years I've gone away on my own - total bliss! I buy gifts on holiday and love bringing them home to give out in January when everyone needs a boost. For my granddaughter I buy a small locally made bag, pretty notebook and friendship bangles from markets all over the world.

Love watching the girls opening their 'hampers'. We do secret santa now for the adults because of the cost. As parents we missed giving them presents at Christmas - the wrapping - the excitement as they opened their gifts. For us and them a practical compromise of a stocking which has evolved to a hamper filled with practical items - ie organic tomatoes, pasta etc and a sweetie.

I'm hoping to get an iPad Pro for drawing. I draw portraits and love drawing digitally with the Procreate app so a new Ipad pro would be a perfect gift for me!

One of my neighbours in the block of sheltered flats where i live has transformed our garden into a thing of beauty all years round. He's done it single handed (not many of us are able-bodied) learning all he needed to know as he went along. He's very modest and plays down all the praise and thanks he gets. we've bought him a plaque for the garden that says on it - he who plants a garden plants happiness.

I am looking forward to giving a surprise gift of some robin goodies for a lady who is house bound who loves birds, particularly robins. She will receive this through the post as I have not actually met with but correspond with her.

Ive a new friend and shes the first new friend ive made in 30 yrs.
As im chronically ill snd almost bedbound and have been for 23 years.
After such a lonely time , this is the first christmas weve been friends.
As she loves gin ive had her a posh gin glass personalised with my pet name for her Margerine.
Her name is marjorie.
I cant what to give it to her.
She lost her only son last year at 36 years old.
And her husband of 44 years the year before.
Our frendship is so special as weve both suffered so much and have found each other at the right moment in our life.
Just when we really needed someone .

I am looking forward to giving my husband a kiss under the mistletoe. For various reasons we are often living apart, but he will be here for Christmas and New Year, so I'll be able to get plenty of mistletoe kisses in ( I need to stock up, as he'll be away early in the New Year) If I win the books, I'll have something to while away the time until he returns again.

My best gift this year has been the homemade advent calendars I made for the boys (16 & 24) each had individual gifts like a free mum cab - dog free weekend - 12 cookies of their choice homemade -- and memories remembered to make them smile.

My ten year old son does not enjoy school as he has dyslexia. But last term his class studied space and he got so excited learning about stars and planets and would rush home and tell me all about it. We have bought him a proper telescope for Christmas which I can't wait for him to see!!!

Whilst struggling to resist the call of alcohol, my sister has occupied herself making large and colourful collages. I have secretly photographed one and have ordered a jigsaw to be made of it. I'm very excited to see her reaction.
