Riding my bike with friends, taking 'a picnic' which usually consisted of an apple and a biscuit! I realise now we didn't cycle far but at the time it felt as if we were miles away from home! We built dens and tree swings.

I had a couple of rubber balls we used to bounce against a wall and catch again making up rhymes as we went. To make it harder we had to use one hand to catch the balls

I was a big fan of skipping games either on my own or with two / three friends and a long rope. If we got really skilled two of us would try and skip at the same time.

We lived on a council estate, so no money for posh toys, me, my sister and the neighbourhood children loved playing hopscotch the numbers scratched out with a piece of brick, also we had a long piece of washing line , we used to play skipping with the line from one side of the road to the other singing " All in together girls" What fun we had playing outside.

My favourite outdoor activity was gardening with my grandad. As part of the garden there was a large vegetable garden so there was lots to do. I loved helping tend all the plants and harvest the fruit and vegetables. Today I still have a love of gardening, I often think of my happy childhood days outside in the garden with my grandad.

I spent hours and hours juggling with a couple of balls, throwing them against the house wall, must have driven my mum mad.

We all used to play british bulldog which was a game we played on a bowling green and had to race to the other side before getting caught by whoever was the "bulldog"

Stuttling: wellies on, we used to take a jam jar to the "pit corner ", find a spot to watch the water for a stickleback. Dip in quickly and see if you have one.
