I would take them to York. It's full of history and it's such a stunning city!

Froglady Mon 07-Oct-19 11:16:42

I would take them to a place called Puy Brum in the Dordogne/Lot areas where their great grandparents spent a month each summer camping. They never knew them but to go an area that they loved so much might generate a link for them.

My grand daughter absolutely loved the programme orang utan school on TV - last year for Christmas we sponsored a baby at the school and we get regular updates from the charity. If we could visit the school in Indonesia she would be over the moon

I would love to take my 3 grandsons to Denmark. My late husband's mother was Danish and my husband really cherished his Danish roots, also, I have never been there so would be an adventure for me as well.

I would love to take them to Lapland to meet the real Father Christmas and to enjoy a memorable reindeer sleigh ride in the snow

GrandmaCornwall Mon 07-Oct-19 12:01:15

I would pack the best picnic ever and get a huge blanket to make a shelter and take them into a field and share the same magic my Grandma shared with me made up stories and adventures. We don’t need to go far to find adventures.

I would take my grandchildren to the theatre as much as possible.

I would take them to Lanzarote as the climate is perfect for small children, the beach is safe and fun. The level coastal path means I could push the pushchair round easily. The journey time is not too long for my small Grandchildren to spend on the plane. How lovely it would be.

It would have to be Niagara falls.

Luckygirl Mon 07-Oct-19 14:11:17

I would take them to Venice. It is a magical city and is where I spent my 50th birthday with my 3 DDs. The GC have often looked at the pictures from that holiday and would I know love to go there with me.

I’d take them to Scotland and go by rail. The scenery is breathtaking and the hospitality wonderful. We have been watching The Worlds Most Beautiful Railway, so they know how beautiful it is.

I would take them to New Zealand to visit their aunts, uncles and cousins!

Borneo, both my grandsons share my love of animals especially the Orangutan.

My little grandsons 4 and 6 have actually promised that when they pass their driving test, they are going to drive Gran to Borneo in a Purple Camper van smile

One way or another I have my fingers crossed that we will at some point visit Borneo together.
Here's hoping and praying that these beautiful animals will still around and no longer on the endangered list.?

I would take them to the Scottish highlands and islands. the beaches are some of the best in the world and the diversity of amazing wildlife and great hikes would appeal to them.

It has to be the Normandy Beaches. The reverence with which all the soldiers are held and honoured is just so humbling. Their Graves are beautifully kept by the War Commission. The honour and pride we and their parents felt whilst we were there will never leave us. We owe such a huge debt to these brave soldiers, they must never be forgotten.

I would take my grandchildren to the Helford River in Cornwall. We would sail to a little beach for a picnic lunch and in the evening we would have a bbq and toast marshmallows on the fire.

queenie68 Mon 07-Oct-19 16:18:09

To St Lucia so they would be walking on a volcano and be able to see whales and dolphins where they belong in the sea

live7 Mon 07-Oct-19 16:41:02

I would take my grandchildren to the Greek Islands. We would island hop on a sailing boat, spend hours on the beaches and in the sea and explore the different islands with lots of eating of course.

I would love to take them to New Zealand.

Lorelei Mon 07-Oct-19 17:03:42

I would take them to Wales so that they could experience how beautiful some parts of the UK are, that they could visit a red kite feeding station to see these aerial acrobats close up as well as see them soaring in the sky above my better half's isolated family cottage, along with buzzards and loads of other birds. The only place I have ever seen wild badgers (we had to stand very still and they came within feet of you - so cool). I would love the kids to see nature at its best, to learn to love and look after living things, respect the countryside and admire trees and hedgerows, see how farmers make spaces for wildlife as well as domesticated animals and their crops. I know the world is full of wonderful, exotic, hot, pretty, interesting places, and ideally I'd love them to be able to travel extensively and see a lot of them, but it would be good to start nearer home, be realistic and practical, teach them to love what is all around them, pretty much on their doorstep.

If there was anywhere to take my new gandaughter it would be where I took her mum and myself when she was growing up we used to go to the forest and the beaches .hunting for bears....she always just missed the big bear. Once or twice she would tell me her stories and colouring in pictures of her big bear hunting ..sometimes in autumn and winter we would be in the forest .in the spring and summer time we,d be at the beaches...hiding in the sand dunes looking to see if we could spot the bears...we will be doing this with our grandchild..as her mum believed it That tale .She has asked us to keep up the pretence for the next generation.big bear hunting.x
