I loved playing with my whip and top. I spent ages colouring the top with chalk so that when it spun you saw all the different coloured patterns on the top.

I used to love playing shops as a girl. I had a toy till, an old catalogue and lots of old purses which I scrounged from my Mum and Grandma. I spent hours in my bedroom on rainy days pretending to be the shopkeeper and the customer.

We used to go exploring in the fields near where we lived and sometimes found cats with their kittens who had run away from home in case their kittens were taken away from them. I always asked my mum if we could keep them but the answer was always no. I think perhaps that is why I like cats so much now as I'm making up for those kittens i couldn't have then!

Listening to Children’s Favourites with the family. It was presented by Uncle Mac on the BBC Light Programme. Still remember the words to most of the songs he played!

Snakes & Ladders kept me occupied for ages!

Bike rides with my brother up and down our road!

Playing elastics - made the elastics out of joining elastic bands together, then a friend at either end stretching the elastic out and then you jump on it and do cross overs etc - such good fun. Hopscotch was the other favourite.

Playing on my bicycle in the Close that we lived in with all our friends.

I used to climb up the apple tree in our garden and stay up there for hours reading a book and eating the apples, the only way my Mum knew where I was hiding was by the apple cores on the floor!

Being taken to Wharton Park in Durham City by my father to watch the trains going over the viaduct.

Living in a seaside town I remember my friends and I would all meet on the corner of our road on our bikes, packed lunches and beach towels at the ready for a day at the beach. We did this most days in the summer holidays weather permitting. Out at 9 am back at 6pm, no mobile phones or laptops, just out all day messing around on the beach.

Dolls, dolls and more dolls but then by contrast I can remember spending all my holiday pocket money on a miniature Dinky Land Rover!

I use to love French knitting. I'd spend ours knitting but wasn't as keen at sewing them up.

Magic robot. It was magic to:me how it got the right answer! But i seemed to love all my games, from patience to snakes and ladders, and making paper clothes for cardboard dolls, to mr potato head with a potato, jacks, pickup sticks, monopoly and playing drafts. Happy memories indeed

In the early sixty’s I was not allowed to have a bike in case I hurt myself so Santa left me rollerskates! I absolutely loved them. So for me that was my fav activity (skint knees and all).

I loved my pogo stick! I had it one birthday, not sure how old I was. It was great fun and probably good exercise.

We use to get my mums headscafs, put them on our heads with a rubber band on the crown to look like Arabs & play Lawerence of Arabia, We absolutely loved that game!

I learnt to play the trombone when I was 9 . It gave me a lifelong love of music. I still play it now.

Annapops Wed 13-Nov-19 16:46:39

Playing with my Sindy dolls with my little sister. We would build our own houses using books to create the walls and room dividers. We also made our own furniture using an idea demonstrated on Blue Peter. I remember a sofa made from a cereal box covered in a blue and white fabric.
We made our own clothes for the dolls too.
Sadly my sister died 24 years ago from cystic fibrosis. She was only 35 and I still miss her terribly.
They were such happy times long ago and I cherish the memories.

Rapunzel100 Wed 13-Nov-19 16:47:03

Whips and tops. Not forgetting Scoop and Monopoly. Making dressing up clothes out of crepe paper. Kiss-catch!!

Retired65 Wed 13-Nov-19 16:50:24

I loved the paper dolls and clothes with tabs. They used to be on the back of the comic Bunty. I also liked the I-spy books.

kaimegan Wed 13-Nov-19 16:52:37

picking blueberries in Rhuland hills in Radnorshire. Picnics by tiny streams, and paddling in streams. Quiet, occasionally had an inquisitive sheep join us. No cars, no people for miles.
Wild flowers and bracken on the hillsides. Oh for that life once again.

Sararose Wed 13-Nov-19 16:56:06

Being able to go walking on the Malvern Hills with my friends or sisters for more or less the whole day without having to check in with our parents every few hours (or even minutes) We packed up a few sandwiches and a banana and filled our water bottles with beautifully fresh spring water at St Anne's Well. We used to sing "We love to go a wandering along the mountain track" very badly! We always returned home safe and sound!
