My brother and I used to make forts using sheets, blankets, folded down boxes, whatever was to hand. Making the fort was always more fun than being IN the fort, and it's a wonder neither of us became an engineer or architect!

I was a real 'tomboy' as a child and disliked all the 'girly games'. I thoroughly enjoyed making a 'steerie', a steering cart made from old pram wheels, a plank of wood and a piece of old rope. Myself and the boys made it together, it had no brakes, and we had endless hours of fun riding it down a very steep slope using our feet as the brakes. Wonderful!

Remembering at this time of year.....making ice slides on the slippery or snowy pavements and roads much to the chagrin of our parents and neighbours. Especially good and sought after places were those on the inclined roads. In retrospect I realise these were so dangerous for us and those trying to get to their homes!

Visiting the cinema on most Fridays after school. We were both cinema lovers, so Dad would be waiting for me to come out of school and we would cross the road and visit the cinema which was directly opposite the school.

Playing skipping games with a rope, gave us hours of fun & exercise (even if we didn't know it at the time).

My favourite was climbing trees and walls, learning to ride a two wheeled bike without stabilisers with my dad holding the saddle running behind, while I wiggled and wobbled all over the place x ???

Ludo. Used to play with my little brother and it was a great Christmas game when we would have a Ludo competition.

I loved with a friend, setting up a stall and selling things. Toys wild flowers, any thing we could really. I don't think we made much but it did boost our frugal pocket money in the 50s.

I used to love all sorts of crafts - crochet, knitting, sewing, making pom poms etc. I just don't have the time these days.

I was an only child,I was never lonely,I had Trusty,a beautiful old ,skewbald pony.I had a cowboy costume and scoured 'the plains' all day on our small farm. I was in heaven. My father allowed me to make a small fire ,in the bole of a big tree,I could collect a chicken egg and place it in the embers and when it cracked open,it was done.Wow,what freedom.

Spending hours down by the river, catching sticklebacks with our fishing nets, putting them in jam jars, eating jam sandwich picnics and paddling in the shallows. Unbelievable now to think that my friends, brothers and I were allowed to cycle out beyond the edge of our village to do so, with no adult in tow!

Games nights with my sisters and parents, all sitting around the table, laughing and playing.

We didn't have a TV at home until I had left school. The family (including the cat and dog) spent Saturday evenings round the fire listening to 'Saturday Night Theatre' on the radio. If I was in my pyjamas and ready for bed and was allowed to stay up until the end of the show. You still can't beat a good radio play and what's more, you can do a hobby at the same time.

Just being with my parents and sister. Dad had a motor bike and sidecar, and would take us out at weekends with a picnic. Happy memories...

I feel fondest for the games my own children played on family occasions, particularly charades because our boys were very silly! Rumikubs is also a family favourite.

I can only remember playing oranges and lemons when we were young at family gatherings being fun. We played things like scrabble but it was too competitive and not much fun.

Playing cribbage with my Dad.
