The thread is getting close to 1000 posts - the maximum number we can have on a thread - so we've made a new thread for when this one is full which you can find here.
Hop scotch x outside my childhood home on the pavement we spent hours and hours playing hopscotch. Who had the flattest and smoothest stone to glide across each numbered square ? Hours and hours. We loved it.
Dominos with my lovely granddad, barely old enough to count the spots but knew when I was losing and used to hide the dominoes under the rug. I called him grandad pan drop for obvious reasons....fond memories.
I used to love popping tar bubbles with icelolly sticks when it was a really hot day. We got covered in the stuff and drove my mother mad but found it impossible to resist !
I used to like playing in the street with all of the other children who lived there. My favourite was when we played rounders with a stick for the bat and the suitably placed trees (it was an avenue with trees on both sides) and a tennis ball. Not many cars around then
I used to collect little red seeds from a tree with my sister. We took them home and used my mum's scrap material to make a little triangular bag and filled them with the seeds. We made five bags and then played five stones. We loved playing that game. Recently, I made them again to show my grandchildren what game I used to play.
I was never an adventurous child, I preferred to play in the house, or read. I remember going on a friends 2 wheeler bike and taking it round the entry from our street, needless to say I fell off and went home crying with scraped legs and a hurt pride!!
My siblings and I used to disappear to the local play park for hours at a time - I loved it. As well as the swings, slide, roundabout etc there were lots of wild areas where we made dens, and a huge lake where we paddled and fed the ducks. But we knew we were in trouble if we forgot to get home in time for tea, and Dad had to come to the park to find us!
Not something I'd want my grandchildren to do, but my favourite game as a child involved picking up all the broken green and brown glass outside the local pub every Saturday and Sunday morning! Then I used the glass in my art projects, I don't remember ever getting cut...
My favourite activity was roller skating with my little sister on those strange adjustable roller skates that fitted over your shoes. They had no stoppers on them so when going down hill we use to aim for the lampposts to stop us.
I loved tag, cats cradle, skipping & going out on my bike. We were always out on our bikes riding around the block or cycling up to the woods or to the park.
