I would read The Tiger who came to tea to my grandson, who is only 18 months old but I am sure he would enjoy the voices I use when telling the story. I like to be silly and entertaining as I think it adds to the magic that reading can bring. My son loved Thomas and his friends and now i am hoping that his son will too. He will if i have anything to do with it. He certainly loves watching him on the telly but he has yet to discover the pure joy of a story like Thomas!.
Paddington Bear because he's a little treasure that brings a lot of pleasure. He's ageless, timeless and his antics and mishaps bring lots of excitement that end with a smile!
My 3 year old grandson is train & bus mad, and loves anything Thomas the tank engine related, especially stories about Henry (his namesake) and or Bertie the bus.
The Borrowers. - Aloft, Afloat - wherever. Fascinating little people . We love how they find the huge world of humans and how they use our belongings. When I was a tot reading this with grandma - I wanted to shrink so as to have their adventures.
When my youngest Grandaughter was very small it was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We both read it together so often we didn't need the book in the end ! We knew it word for word.
Funny Bones was always a popular choice by my children as bedtime reading because it's such a funny story full of repetion, rhymes, singing (knee bone connected to the thigh bone etc) and very importantly, a happy ending.
The Troll (Julia Donaldson) - my grandson isn't a great lover of books but sits rapt to this and we have a very silly chase around when the troll has to walk the plank.
The tiger who came to tea I read it to my children and now my grandchildren I was a nursery nurse many years ago and it was always my go to book to cheer a child up
My own son loved any of the Thomas The Tank Engine stories but my grandchildren are now in New Zealand and I've been introduced to The Wonky Donkey which is hilarious, so maybe not a wind down bedtime story.
The Snowman as it is such a lovely magical story , simply and beautifully told, capturing the memories of winter and Christmas for us all, whilst making new ones reading it to my grandson (who also adores Thomas!) ⛄️?
