Each, Peach, Pear, Plum by Allan and Janet Ahlberg is such a joy to read with my little ones. They just love the rhyming story and spying the classic characters on each page. Such a clever little book that entertains repeatedly.

I love reading the Goosebumps series by R. L. Stine to my Grandchildren. They help children understand the fact that the fearless can survive any danger when they make the right decisions.

My 2 young grandsons ages 2&3(brothers), Love me to read the Charlie&Lola book, titled "I will not Ever Never eat a tomato" its a 10th Anniversary Edition by 'Lauren Child', Charlie is Lola's older brother and his parents have him giving Lola her lunch, which includes fish fingers, peas, carrots and of course tomatoes, but when Lola doesn't want to eat anything especially tomatoes, Charlie comes up with fun names and stories for the food, which Lola then goes on happily to eat, even when it comes to eating the tomatoes she names them herself and calls them "moonsquirters", my grandsons always shout out together when we get to that part "they're not tomatoes, they're 'moonsquirters', well from the 2 year old I can just make out what he's saying, it's lead to myself their mum, my DD, coming up with fun names for food, when they say they don't like it and most of the time it works and they try the food they say they don't like and end up loving it!. xx

Every time he stays my 3-year old grandson requests the same bedtime story, it's an old book that belonged to my son called 'Plane'. He adds lots to the story by relaying the plane journey to Spain for our holiday last year. My son is now a pilot, maybe he was influenced by that book!

The Gruffalo and Gruffalo's Child and All the Alfie & Annie Rose stories by Shirley Hughes are also favourites

I enjoy reading Nursery Rhyme Time with Peter Rabbit illustrations to my Grandson. He has the same characters on his cot mobile. I like the continuity of reading nursery rhymes I remember from childhood, which I shared with my son and daughter and now the next generation and seeing the same love for books emerging.

Peter Rabbit is a real favourite

I loved reading the Thomas the Tank Engine books to my son. He was a huge fan and now his two boys are Thomas fans too. When they are a little bit older I shall look forward to reading them The Railway Children just as I did when their Dad was a boy.

My grandson loves me reading Thomas to him. He has my son's set of books which are nearly 20 years old and hopefully these will be passed down to his son in the future.

As a train enthusiast, it has to be Thomas the Tank Engine to my great-nephew, - who leaves them lying around all over the house

stewaris Mon 08-Jun-20 18:56:53

Alice in Wonderland to my three granddaughters. They loved the story and choosing who in the family was which character. They still love I although they can read on their own now.

My Grandchildren love traditional stories... so The Three Little Pigs, and Billy Goats Gruff are there favourites, a great way for them to learn how to read as they know them inside out !
