My youngest Grandaughter loves her bedtime stories and enjoys her collection of Winnie the Pooh stories she is two years old this week so I bought her a dolls house shaped book case for her to put her collection of favourite books by the side of her little bed.

Anything really; if they ask for a story I will read it to them and with them.

We wore the print of Julia Donaldson’s The Snail and the Whale and Sharing a Shell; all her books in fact. Other books included The Tiger that came to Tea, and when he was a bit older, the very funny Man on the Moon (A Day in the Life of Bob) books by Simon Bartram - especially A Right Royal Disaster; and the Katie Morag books. He’s now 13 and a voracious reader. I think I miss reading to him more than anything else we did.

My grandsons love reading and they have loads of the. Most of the time they will choose their bedtime story for me to read. Three different ages . So the little one will have his story in the day time and sit with us for other stories later. The tiger who came to tea although he likes the touching, feeling, pulling one a lot. For the older one, Harry Potter. Roald dahl , dinasaur and numbers/football for the middle one.

My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter loves the Hairy Mcleary from Donaldson's Dairy books. He is a scruffy little dog who has many friends. His biggest enemy is Scarface Claw, a cat. There are lots of books in the series, we have about ten but I think we have only scraped the tip of the iceberg. I now read them to her over WhatsAp which she loves.

In our house, any story connected with Peter Rabbit and Going on a Bear Hunt always goes down a storm. They have always loved books from being tiny and I do too, so story time is one thing I sadly miss right now.

I love reading the Jill Murphy stories about the Larfe family, e.g. Mr Large in charge. I still have the copies I read to my own children, which has their names written and crossed out multiple times as they fought over who the books belonged to. The grandchildren love the stories and seeing their parent's writing.

The hungry caterpillar

My grandchildren love The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We read and reread it constantly. They love drawing little faces on the end of their fingers before putting them in the holes. Books are wonderful and give children ( and adults) hours of pleasure.

I m loving reading Watch with Mother Stories to my 2 yr old granddaughter. She loves Bill and Ben and I’ve made some characters from card that she can add to a landscape frieze I also made for her. I’m looking forward to reading Heidi to her, that was my favourite as a child.

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. It was a book I loved as a child and read to my children. To be able to read it to my grand-children brings back wonderful memories that I hope will stay with them forever.

The one I like reading is the one I am writing each week during lockdown. It is their family history, back to great grandparents and stories of what their mum got up to. When she was naughty, things she did. They live it and my daughter said she didn’t know half the stuff. I am saving it and will make it into a book(let).

vintanner Fri 15-May-20 10:45:53

Never got the chance to read to my step-child due her age when I married her dad, looking forward to reading to her children, I will be happy with that. smile
