A thread for shallow prattlers

A number of us have been told off on other threads for being concerned about looking after our hair and ourselves while confined to home. Among other epithets we have been described as shallow and prattlers. I am quite unrepentantly a shallow prattler

I am certainly taking this crisis seriously, but I also believe that all work/worry and no play makes both Jack and Jacqueline dull people and that if we are to get through this current crisis mentally unscathed, we need to cultivate our capacity for fun and frivolity.

Todays news is that seclusion may be sometime away, which is a relief because although I had my hair cut last week, I am due to have my eye brows done in 10 days and I would like that doen first as well.

I am also considering reviewing my summer wardrobe. I dislike buying clothes online. They never fit, look awful and the quality is poor. I am wondering whether there are yet any summer clothes in the shops and whether I should try to get everything I may need now.

Now it is over to all the other shallow prattlers, what will you do to keep your morale up?

I’m afraid I hate the “what it should look like ” picture Grannyactivist and I hope that’s not you.
It looks like every teenage/early 20’s girl anywhere along with the regulation collagen enhanced “trout pout” and French manicure gel nails. (And possibly Kardashian bum enhancement) !

Yes, start as you mean to go on. The veil does not come down until the weekend.

kittylester Mon 16-Mar-20 21:49:21

Being very shallow- should we let our cleaner come on Thursday?

M0nica Mon 16-Mar-20 20:33:23

Had a bit of a wobble when I heard all the news, but back in shallow waters now.

I will be doing a good shop tomorrow in Waitrose. Garden Centre and B&Q on Wednesday to make sure I have got all the seeds etc we need for a flourishing veg patch this summer and on Thursday we head up to the Downs to collect our first batch of Pasture for life beef.

Whatever else happens we intend to eat well while in seclusion. - but bang goes my eyebrow tint and shape - sigh -

Grandmama All my over 70 friends have said it's all OTT and they have no intention of staying in. We're a feisty lot.

Did they not understand the Press Conference earlier today? What a totally irresponsible attitude!

Nannylovesshopping Mon 16-Mar-20 19:37:53

Feisty, more like irresponsible, you and your friends might
be on a death wish but the rest of us aren’t.

Grandmama Mon 16-Mar-20 19:26:49

I bought lip salve and toothpaste last week and today have bought this year's veg seeds for the garden. Sum total of my panic buying.

All my over 70 friends have said it's all OTT and they have no intention of staying in. We're a feisty lot.

I think veneers are attached by scraping away the top surface of the teeth so that the veneers have something to grip to. They are rather like a cap but thinner I think.
I may ask about the composite coating after this is all over, fingers crossed.

U3A still seems to be going ahead.

M0nica Mon 16-Mar-20 17:43:29

Callistemon One filling and four composites, took an hour. It seemed to consist of sand blasting my teeth and then putting a coating on them. Nice and natural looking. Not sure how veneers work.

I doubt anyone will notice them except me - no, DGS will, last time I saw him he asked me why I had brown stripes on my teeth hmm.

Just been pinged by an email saying the last two sessions of a class I was doing have been cancelled, oh, and a committee meeting. This is gettting serious. I think it is time I checked in the garage for our stocks of bubbly, It is going to be needed!!

Callistemon Mon 16-Mar-20 17:11:22

I may just stick with a pencil!

grannyactivist Mon 16-Mar-20 17:08:19

Callistemon grin
I actually wasn't allowed to get it wet initially, but it's then supposed to last for about 6 weeks.

aggie Mon 16-Mar-20 16:59:24

I watched with horror as they did a demo of microblading someone’s eyebrows on tv this morning !

Nico97 Mon 16-Mar-20 16:49:34

Hmm....tempting Juliet grin

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 16-Mar-20 16:47:51

I shall keep going as usual with the proviso that I'll wash my hands more often and be extra careful. What more can we do really, just prepare for the worst but hope for the best?
I'll try to finish off some sewing projects, maybe a bit of housework and tidy up the garden.

Juliet27 Mon 16-Mar-20 16:43:41

Ps. Just waiting to see who the first dissenter is

Perhaps we should lay bets!

EllanVannin Mon 16-Mar-20 16:29:27

Well how's this for a morale booster ? I nipped out earlier to the corner shop to top-up cat food and the chap behind the counter asked " shouldn't you be locked-up now ?" I was that taken aback I couldn't answer, just grinned. ( forgot about the virus for 2 seconds )

When I got in, I glanced in the mirror and thought, yes, I should have a number under that mugshot grin . I did have bright orange lipstick on ! Almost luminous.

It was the way he'd said it and I keep chuckling to myself.

Susan56 Mon 16-Mar-20 16:03:32

I am another shallow prattler!Hair appointment for highlights booked for Monday, also manicure and pedicure booked. Will start off the self isolation looking half decent anyway!!

trisher Mon 16-Mar-20 16:00:09

Thanks for the explanation. It sounds awful! (Laminating eyebrows I mean) although they look fine. I just couldn't go through all that.

endlessstrife Mon 16-Mar-20 15:57:14

Yes, I’ve got a hair appointment on Wednesday too. I’ve had to cancel it twice due to other bugs ( I think! ). My hairdresser is also my friend, so I’m not cancelling again. My hair is so awful now, I can’t stand it any longer. Roll on Wednesday ?

J52 Mon 16-Mar-20 15:53:25

Another SP here. Hair appointment on Friday after my tennis lesson.
I shall be going to Superdrug on Wednesday to stock up on a few make up necessities and birthday gifts.

The virus is here, but all the negative, mood hoovering talk, just leads to a sense of hopelessness. Not good, just be sensible.

sodapop Mon 16-Mar-20 15:46:10

That's a shame Grannyactivist I have not heard of it either but thought it should last more than 10 days.

Just watching Place in the Sun ( sad I know ) the presenter has just asked the husband how he would feel about his wife visiting the property alone if they bought it. Really ?

Callistemon Mon 16-Mar-20 15:29:03

Sorry, wasn't I supposed to say that grannyactivist blush

Callistemon Mon 16-Mar-20 15:28:00

Well done oldgimmer

And well done for being shallow enough to buy your moisturiser and nail varnish as well as keeping everything going at work!

welbeck Mon 16-Mar-20 15:26:31

doesn't look too bad.
i honestly wouldn't have noticed anything amiss there if i'd met you.
i was expecting a caterpillar colony in the making....
black, furry, large, and twitching bit, while beginning to march down the nose, looking for a lettuce.
ps my knowledge of natural history may be a bit wonky, i am not scientific. not anything much really. ho hum.

you look just fine.
