Time for our Queen to speak?

The queen is 93 with a very sick husband. I hear she is giving a speech at some point. As far as Im concerned the queen, and her parents did more than their bit during the war. Im really not expecting her at 93 to be doing much more than self isolate.

I can’t see what difference a statement from her would make. She would only be saying what she had been told to say. Dhe might care but has no idea what it’s like for most people. Maybe she could use some of her immense wealth to actually do something constructive.

The queen does live in an ivory tower though far removed from those of us leading ordinary lives. We have walked past the homeless in the street and can see with our own eyes the wretchedness. I don’t need a message from the queen. She doesn’t know that I exist. I value the messages and information from the governments, UK and devolved.
I am not anti royalist. I just don’t see the need to have thoughts and opinions about the royals and take sides on which of them to support. I don’t get that way of thinking at all.

A message from the queen wouldn't mean anything to e - she's there, with all her servants, in her massive home, whilst the rest of us are having to buy what we can get in the shops.

I gather she is waiting for her advisers to let her know when they think it would be best time to make a statement.

I don't understand the logic of the anti-royalists - they say she should be broadcasting a statement, but then say that it is a waste of time because she has no idea how the rest of us are coping.

As soon as she does make a statement I expect a deluge of comments criticising anything and everything she says. Really for people who claim not to care for the RF some people do seem to be obsessed by them.

She’s the Head of State ffs - get a grip as to what her role is.

Life changes for us all. She has a life of privilege but not one I would choose. She is still subject to the same restrictions , albeit in more comfort with plenty of space to self isolate. She doesn't need to be paraded before to know she is worried too.

Imagine all the people involved in broadcasting a speech from Windsor......all potentially at risk of getting the virus.

If royalists are satisfied with a written communication from the Queen, why do those who hate her and all she stands for need special treatment?

vsmlirequeen is spot on - none of them will have a clue as to everyday life for most of us now. There’ll be a custom made ICU bed complete with ventilator and their own royal doctor all set up for her, PP, PC! C, PW, KM Test kits galore and zillions of toilet rolls.

Horrible comments, but no change there.

I introduced this question on the M and H thread days ago and as you can imagine got a real roasting for daring to suggest at a time like this our Head of State might for once act like you know a head of state and speak to the nation or at least issue a statement ( like she did do speedily when the no good Sultan of Oman( yes I know who?) died.

I posted links to the Dutch and Danish royal families doing exactly that - the Danish Queen strongly reiterated the staying apart to stay together message. The royalists had every excuse and then some as to why she shouldn’t have to bother to do anything remotely head of state in a crisis stuff,

Some seemed to think her age was an excuse- her age is the reason why she shouldn’t be H of S. she’s too old to do the job - if she’s not here at such a dreadful time for all of us, what is the point of her?

Yes this is a rant - those of us who can think know exactly where we are heading

She scuttled off to Windsor asap. I don't care if she broadcasts or not. What's she going to say? Maybe she could give us a few hints on what to eat when there's nothing in the shops, how to get by on £94 a week or how to survive the 5 week wait for universal credit. But then again she won't have a clue because she's not affected by such things in her Ivory Tower.

I really couldn't care less whether the queen broadcasts a message to us or not, but I am still surprised that she hasn't!

At her age she is working to become more computer literate, had a son disgraced, gone thru the H anD M debacle, has a husband in poor health and still keeps her promise to her nation. I couldn't do that on the best day of my life.

SueDonim, I believe the Archbishop of Canterbury has spoken about the situation.

I’ve read somewhere today that the Queen is having lessons on internet video tech, presumably to cut down her having to be in contact with too many people, and she’s planning to speak at some point soon.

She’s actually not spoken to the nation in an unscheduled way since the death of the Queen Mother in 2002.

I wonder where our spiritual leaders are, too. No words of comfort for us from them?

Apparent someone in Buck House has been diagnosed recently so that might explain why HM left earlier than expected. The people who shout most about her not speaking tend to be republicans and whatever she says will be misconstrued by them.

She has issued a message but perhaps does not want broadcast cameras at the moment if they are in isolation.
