Looks like we are in lockdown. Thoughts?

Madgran77 Tue 24-Mar-20 07:29:23

It's possibly more likely to end up in A&E from a bike ride than a walk.

Um .....what?

MamaCaz Tue 24-Mar-20 07:21:01

The problem with going on bike rides over the last few days, in our rural area, has been walkers stopping to chat to each other, congregating in the middle of our country lanes and not allowing us a two meter space to pass by. Plenty of room for us all if they kept nearer the edge!

I simply cannot get my head round how so many people thought it a great idea to go off on a jolly to the seaside or for a picnic in the park at a time like this!

The message that it was going to be a bit like flu and that old people had the most to fear was clearly wrong. The young are not invincible.

However, it's very heartening to see that 7000+ clinicians have volunteered to return to the NHS to help. There are many good people out there too!

Hetty58 Tue 24-Mar-20 07:13:12

I don't feel that annoyed with the idiots. It was exactly as I expected. There are so many of them around, after all, it was predictable.

I'm still annoyed with the blame being put on the idiot section of the population - by the government. The government dragged it's feet. Lockdown should have happened two weeks ago but they 'weren't ready'.

In another two weeks we'll have a catastrophe on our hands. Too many hospital patients, too many sick staff - and the need to 'prioritise' ventilators. The elderly will have no chance!

I'll still be angry with our leaders. Their duty is to protect us!

Madgran77 Tue 24-Mar-20 07:02:16

Bike rides are allowed because it is a good self distancing method of exercise! If people are then stupid enough to congregate with bikes, that option will be removed as well!

I agree with you Washerman. I would feel relieved to know that the army is in charge of logistics. A local "volunteers army" has emerged. I have no doubt that the people who have said they'll help, mean well, but it's chaotic. There's no leadership and they really haven't thought through how things will need to work.

Washerwoman Tue 24-Mar-20 06:53:25

Re the army being deployed. That would reassure me.I read an excellent article by an army wife saying in 30 years service her husband spent a huge amount of his service peacekeeping and building relations with communities. It's all about logistics and helping vital supplies flowing. And keeping gangs and groups who won't obey instructions off the streets to keep us all safe.

Purplepixie Tue 24-Mar-20 01:32:51

I think this should have happened two weeks ago. The government knew what was going to happen and as usual close the door when the horse has bolted. Bloody stupid! Let’s all abide by it and stay safe.

This might help some people cope with lockdown. Should have happened sooner but its done now.

Ask family, friends and neighbours to support you and use online services. If this is not possible, then the public sector, business, charities, and the general public are gearing up to help those advised to stay at home.

Please discuss your daily needs during this period of staying at home with carers, family, friends, neighbours or local community groups to see how they can support you.

Please visit gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable from Tuesday 24 March 2020 TO REGISTER for the support that you need. This includes help with food, shopping deliveries and additional care you might need.

The government is helping pharmacies to deliver prescriptions. Prescriptions will continue to cover the same length of time as usual. If you do not currently have your prescriptions collected or delivered, you can arrange this by:

Asking someone who can pick up your prescription from the local pharmacy, (this is the best option, if possible).

Contacting your pharmacy to ask them to help you find a volunteer (who will have been ID checked) to deliver it to you.

I have been tossing and turning trying to get to sleep, and feel so relieved to come on here and find I'm not alone. I've been in tears and also very angry at the idiots who have exacerbated a dreadful situation. What is wrong with them?? I'm ashamed of their behaviour.

I'm grateful that we have, at last, got lockdown and I hope the first few who flout the new rules will be severely punished to make an example of them.

I am juggling 9 different illnesses including ME/CFS, asthma, celiac and other diseases and my AC are key workers and I'm worried about them .... plus I have an adult GD in lockdown in the Middle East where she's a teacher who I'm worried to bits about. I can't settle to anything, but hey! Tomorrow's another day. sunshine Where's Vera Lynn when you need her?

A friend has just posted on her FB page:

Our parents and grandparents had to fight in wars.
YOU are just being asked to sit on the sofa and wash your hands.
Don't Fuck it up!

We have army camped nearby our small town. I was wondering how the lockdown would be enforced. We have no police based in our town. I reckon the army will use drones. Film them. Identify them. Fine the buggers.

maddyone Tue 24-Mar-20 00:24:44

Personally I think it’s not come a moment too soon. In actual fact I think it’s not tough enough.

Sussexborn Tue 24-Mar-20 00:18:41

Hopefully if people see others flouting the new instructions they will video them and report them to the police. The police can fine people who won’t cooperate. I wouldn’t hesitate to report someone who disregards the safety of us all.

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 23:52:24

Sorry, that was meant to be I'm disgusted - in fact copying your post

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 23:51:41

EllenV I'm disgusted

I think if people had heeded government advice instead of treating the weekend like a Bank Holiday Jamboree then things would not have escalated so fast and the peak would have happened as predicted, flattened out.

It's the stupidity of many of the public which has disgusted me.

BlueSky Mon 23-Mar-20 23:50:55

Hetty58 I would go bonkers without a daily walk! That's what I would miss most if banned, I would have to walk up and down the garden or round and round grin

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 23:47:36

gillybob the Army is to be mobilised to deliver all the essential equipment needed by the NHS; there are good supplies but the problem has been delivering them to where they are needed.

If they can clear the streets of yobs like those mentioned above all well and good too. They may be needed to keep order.

Hetty58 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:47:02

BlueSky, I really hope so. My dog will drive me bonkers if she doesn't get a walk!

BlueSky Mon 23-Mar-20 23:41:04

In Italy at first they were allowed to go for walks/jogging till they abused it, same with walking the dog, after that stricter laws. Let's hope it won't happen here.

morethan2 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:24:57

Nandalot Mon 23-Mar-20 23:06:26

Hetty58 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:05:11

gillybob, could you use Skype online to stay in touch with your daughter? It's easy to set up and use - and it's free!
