My DH is on the shielded list. Just wondering how many others there are on GN and how you are coping with staying in all the time.

Mamissimo Wed 29-Apr-20 00:08:51

Sorry - I am only referring to the neighbour with the grandchildren!

Marydoll Wed 29-Apr-20 08:45:48

Good morning all, it's wet here. In Glasgow, but thank goodness yesterday's low mood has lifted.

Bradfordlass, spurred on by you, after much searching, I found the old blog account. I even managed to get into it, but I got the message, You have no blogs, do you want to write your first one?
When I have time, I'm going to try harder to find it.

Massimo, I'm glad you got there and back safely. I was about to start new, monthly treatment in the day ward, the first week of the lockdown, but it was postponed, as too risky for me to visit hospital. I'm actually relieved that the pressure of so many hospital visits has been taken away. It was becoming exhausting having so many.

ethelbags, it depends on the severity of your asthma, whether you are advised to sheild or not. Your GP or consultant makes that decision.
My three children,DIL and granddaughter are all asthmatic, but have no letter.
However, they are only going out once a week for food.
Believe it or not, there are different categories of vulnerability.
You are doing the right thing, staying in where possible, despite not having, The Letter

I'm off to post the maths thread, before Pantglas, finishes her chamberpot of tea.?

Have a good day, everyone.

Doodle Wed 29-Apr-20 10:26:32

Morning all.
ethelbags. Asthma in itself does not mean you are on the shielded list. People on the shielded list have received letters from the government (due to having certain specific health conditions) advising/telling them to stay indoors for 12 weeks minimum and avoid all contact with others.
This thread was started specifically for those people on the shielded list who are basically in lockdown. Some others who are not shielded have posted on this thread and that’s fine, it’s an open forum, but most of us on here are either on the shielded list or living with someone on the list. I hope you are ok.

Doodle Wed 29-Apr-20 10:32:19

panache I was lucky and had my hair cut the day before lockdown ?. It is still in the manageable state. I have very thick hair and it’s not sleek and stylish so when it gets longer I will look like an old English sheepdog!
Hope your food situation is getting better now. Take care

Doodle Wed 29-Apr-20 10:34:28

I better get to class before Miss notices I’m missing! ?

Dreamkeeper Wed 29-Apr-20 11:44:06

Sadly you are not alone Ethelbags as there are the majority of folk doing the right or best thing they can, within whatever circumstances they find themselves in.
Then unfortunately there are the few intent on carrying on as they always did, truly not realising or considering the risk not only to themselves, but to others around them, these are the selfish minority.
Being shielded is difficult as circumstances are different for all.
Asthma may not afford you to be on this shielded list, best asking your GP exactly what status you are in.

However we are both shielded and stick with the guide lines for both our own protection which is vital, and for the sake of others.
We intend staying shielded until probably a vaccine is found as we know that dare we catch this virus we shall not survive.
We have 2 short walks only daily within the garden.
We live in a flat in an extra care sheltered setting, where all communal areas have been closed and we have been advised to stay safe in our flats.
Yet during the warm sunshine a certain element decided to get outdoors and gather in groups on the terrace, they were some distance apart but were there for hours, talking to the public as they passed nearby to enter the building.
A second letter was sent to us all reminding us of the rules and this section have again chosen to turn a blind eye and continue to gather together.
Sadly this leaves it very possable for the virus to enter this building, our greatest fear.
All peoples will never follow the guidelines although they are there for our own good.

I can but suggest you stay strong yourself Ethelbags,do what is right for both your own safety and that of others whilst turning a blind eye to those outside obviously breaking many of the guidelines. What happens to them will be their fault.
If you follow taking good care of yourself, follow strictly the issued guidelines, only going out minimaly whether to do shopping or just excercise(taking the 2 metre distance guidelines between you and the next person) you should stay safe during this period.
Ignore those misguided few whom choose to put themselves.......and others......at great risk.
Think only of yourself, stay safe, stay indoors.
You will also be protecting others which is such a good thing.

Doodle Wed 29-Apr-20 20:09:39

panache like you we are not venturing outside our front door (except when I make a quick dash to take the rubbish out). I am surprised that folk in your development are not taking this more seriously. I would have thought that many of them were at risk. Why is it that some people think the rules don’t apply to them. At least you two are keeping safe in your flat as are we two in ours. We sat on the balcony tonight. Not as warm as recently but nice to have 10 minutes outside.?

Bit worried about cherry. Not heard from her recently. Hope she’s ok.

Marydoll Wed 29-Apr-20 20:18:07

I too was wondering where Cherry is. She has not been on for a few days.
Night all.

Mamissimo Wed 29-Apr-20 23:25:12

A day of quiet pleasure- my bean sticks arrived - a small pleasure but not having strong sticks was causing me stupid stress. Must be my own peculiar lockdown stress.

Our jobs list is going well....probably because we keep putting them off. It means we will still have plenty of challenges if we are still in at Christmas.

Panache I’m astounded at the daftness of some of your residents - it must be disturbing indeed! I think I would have an ‘accident’ when watering a plant if I was anywhere in reach - my aim is very bad due to poor arm strength and I sometimes water random things and people by mistake ?

Hope you all dream of things that make you happy. ?

Doodle Wed 29-Apr-20 23:32:07

Wishing you all a good night.
Hoping dragonfly and Dexter doing ok and *cherry too.
Sleep well all x

Dreamkeeper Wed 29-Apr-20 23:45:24

Indeed seeing is believing here.
We are astounded because yes those deciding on ignoring the guidelines are amongst the most vulnerable in a building of 54 flats!!!
Most are in power or wheel chairs, all well into their dotage (hope they are not listening!!) one was actually a District Nurse so they do not lack brain cells.
From the first week we have noticed several worrying aspects of ways people break the guidelines thus putting the entire building at risk.
We know that neither of us stand a chance if we have this virus, and whilst it is not the best way to spend some sunny warm weather, we value being alive!!
Mind you the change of weather just now has us happily sitting indoors!

Head this way Mamissimo and let rip with your wonky arm!

Sounds very pleasant on that balcony of yours Doodle,
Looking down on the world as it were.

Whilst yes it does seem our chatty Cherry is missing so I hope she is fine and just taking a little break.

Sweet dreams all.

Doodle Thu 30-Apr-20 10:56:38

Morning all.

dragonfly hope Dexter’s op is successful and makes him more comfortable.
cherry still thinking of you and hoping you’re ok.

Hope every one has a good day ?

Marydoll Thu 30-Apr-20 16:10:05

There is a post on the GM thread, saying Cherry has been hospital, but home now.
Hoping she is on the mend.

Doodle Thu 30-Apr-20 19:51:47

I read that in the kitchen too Marydoll.
cherry we miss you. Get well soon.
dragonfly hope you are ok and Dexter too.

Mamissimo Thu 30-Apr-20 21:50:09

A day of very necessary domestic graft...... And I have decided that I will never ever buy mahogany furniture again! We have collected some beautiful pieces over the years, mostly from auctions but Lordy does it show the dust! I know it’s only us to see it, and it’s our dust but it niggles at me.

We went out to clap tonight and couldn’t hear anyone else. It echoed round the hills a little and sounded so strange after all the quiet here all week. It’s what brings home the strangeness of these times for me.....even the cows seem quiet and the deer are getting bolder by the day. They come right up to the bottom fence now. I’ll try to get a photo for you tomorrow.

I’m off to my cell for the night....sleep well everyone.

Grammaretto Thu 30-Apr-20 21:51:25

Get well soon Cherry

and Dexter. ? At least animals don't need to wait for months for operations.

I was tearful today. DS phoned from NZ and reminded me how they would have been coming over this Summer. I hope we don't have to wait too long.

DH wasn't well so I called the doctor who phoned back and prescribed some meds to be delivered. They weren't. He is feeling somewhat better now and has eaten a good dinner tonight. Now he's gone to bed..

Doodle Thu 30-Apr-20 21:55:32

Grammaretto glad your DH is feeling better. Hope the medicine arrives tomorrow.
We went out and clapped tonight. Others rang bell, played trumpets and banged about a bit. Nice to se some other people even if at a distance.
Hope cherry back with us soon.
Hot chocolate in the kitchen for any late comers.
Sleep well

Doodle Thu 30-Apr-20 21:56:29

Meant to say I have been doing some chores today too mamissimo that means tomorrow I can have a day off and do some sewing.?

BradfordLass73 Fri 01-May-20 00:02:33

I hope all those not feeling too cracky are on their way to better health. Plenty of rest and good food and of course regular doses of Doodle's Extra Delicious Hot Chocolate.
Did you hear this 4 minute take about it?
www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p06kvrqy

fatgran57 as the UK tabloids (we don't have such abberations in NZ) would say 'What a whopper!'

I'm glad the blog is entertaining; I try to make it different every day. It's not about me in the sense that it doesn't document what I'm doing in lockdown, which would be very boring.
However, I did feel very sad on May Day, that 'Obby 'Oss had been cancelled, so wrote about that. I used to go every year and since moving back to NZ, alwasy joined in by watching live streaming.

And another chocolate podcast, longer but very funny:
www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0874r22

CherryCezzy Fri 01-May-20 17:53:58

I broke lockdown ? ?! It felt very strange! Not a nice way to do it but ..... kinda nice to discover there is a world still out there ?. I'm not giving it a five star rating by any means ? , I mean the food was atrocious and there was no scrummy hot chocolate, I missedDoodle's delightful brew. By the way I found some marshmallows in my cupboard, they're still in date so I've smuggled them in for tonight.
I would like to thank my fellow Gang members for the concern you have shown for my welfare and warm wishes I have received. ?
One thing I learnt from my prison break was is that the hospital ward environment has become very surreal, masked men and women everywhere and even queues for the toilets ?.

Grammaretto Fri 01-May-20 19:14:24

Oh Cherry how worrying but you are safely back. How long were you in? Did you get some treatment?
Welcome back.
DH meds arrived but were delivered by a friend so I dread to think how people are managing if they are all alone and sick. The doctor said it wasn't their job and the chemist never answered their phone.
The weather was so lovely again today . I did some gardening - bravely planted out peas, lettuces and curly kale. A jackdaw was keeping an eye on proceedings so I hope he doesn't gobble them all up before morning.
A chat with DD who was overwhelmed with her DC. I wish we could help but we can't. They were fighting.

A thunderstorm now which is great for the garden but testing the roof repairs.

Doodle Fri 01-May-20 20:54:40

cherry so glad to have you back. You have been missed. You must have been very poorly to have to go to hospital. Are you ok now? We’ve been worried about you. Extra special hot chocolate for you tonight.
bradfordlass I’m like the older people on the podcast. I like dark chocolate more than milk. Mind you any chocolate will do in times of need ?
grannaretto so glad your DH has his meds. How is he feeling today. Hope he’s ok.
Hope the dreamkeepers are ok.
I did well in marydoll’s school today so should be in her good books for a change ?

Dreamkeeper Sat 02-May-20 00:10:28

I am away for just a wee while and I find that Cherry has broken out of Lockdown!!!
However on further reading I note it was a forced leave and you are forgiven!!! Truly hoping you are well again.
Hospital is not the one place you want to be right now so it must have been a raw deal.
I can well imagine it being a very strange place to be at this time.

How are you Dragonfly and of course how is Dexter?

Sorry to have strayed Doodle but not only has my dear man just had his monthly chemo, which leaves him in much discomfort........although to be fair he just takes it on his chin.I know he is suffering though for he goes very quiet.
Then I too have been "under the weather" .....my former complaint, the one that kept me in Hospital for what seemed like forever! returned and I have been forced to sit back.......even more than usual!

However cleaning day today and I did manage, although I can`t say I was over worked as a small flat does not take forever to hoover and dust!

At least with the rains seemingly over and sunshine appearing again I shall be able to concentrate on the great outdoors........and all those breaking the rules!

There was a lot of hand clapping last Thursday, like every thursday night now.

I don`t know about you but the mere thought of this lockdown coming to some sort of an end scares me to death.
Only today we learnt our county`s death toll has reached 39 which is quite high for a sparse rural community, worse still we learnt the virus is in 2 care homes in a village just a few miles away. That is big time scary.
For of course it is quite likely the Carers that call there also call on individuals here.
We shall remain put here ourselves but I already sense a feeling of unrest stirring within me when thinking of people starting going out and about, here, there and everywhere?
Am I being stark raving daft............do tell me your inner thoughts my lovely cell mates.

Whilst I seek young Doodle and her Hot chocolate!!!!

Keep safe cell mates.

Doodle Sat 02-May-20 00:35:02

Under the circumstances panache I’m not surprised you are concerned. You and dear Mr P have enough to deal with without this virus. Though it is hard to be inside I think carrying on keeping apart from others and trying to keep yourselves save is the only option. We sit and wait for something to turn up. A vaccine or treatment whatever. Patience my be a virtue but it’s difficult at times ?. Sleep well .

Doodle Sat 02-May-20 00:36:02

Sorry, meant to add that I hope you feel better soon. Don’t overdo the housework
