My DH is on the shielded list. Just wondering how many others there are on GN and how you are coping with staying in all the time.

Megs36 Tue 19-May-20 12:44:21

My husband has been on the ‘list’ since mid March , now 8th week I think. Because I depend on him I am essentially shielded too! We’ve not left the house at all, luckily got a little garden and the weather has been brilliant, but now getting very wobbly. On line shopping and very kind neighbours have kept us going but we are and will follow the rules.

Missedout Tue 19-May-20 13:06:28

I lost a tooth filling 2 weeks into lockdown. I bought tooth filling kit from Amazon (Boots were completely out of stock). I've been replacing the filling whenever it has broken up and fallen out, sometimes a matter of a couple of days, but the filling once lasted two weeks. I'm not in pain although have ulcers on my tongue owing to the exposed sharp edges and eat very carefully on the other side of my mouth.

However, I've spent a lot of time trying to find out what is happening with dentists during the Covid-19 crisis. The truth is I can't find any plans at all. Emergency treatment consists of antibiotics and/or extraction. Dental procedures produce aerosols, it is too dangerous.

I'm so sorry for Mr P and anyone else who is suffering. I think it will be some time before we will be able to have the dental procedures we have been used to up until now.

Grammaretto Tue 19-May-20 13:22:02

I phoned my dentist when I had the abscess and I was rather impressed. Reception put me through to him. He was able to look me up on his cocomputer and prescribed antibiotics which worked.
Clove oil would be sold at the same chemist where you buy painkillers.
Although having become an intranet junkie, I think you can get them online.
Good luck!

Doodle Tue 19-May-20 15:05:21

Hello megs we are pretty much all in the same boat here. Our 8th week too. Glad you are managing with shopping etc. That’s one of the most difficult things to organise.
I think we’ve all had our wobbles because we can’t see the end in sight. No clear date. But things are gradually opening up so hang on. Lovely to have a garden to escape to.
missedout I have never heard of a tooth filling kit ? I didn’t realise you could do that. Glad you’re not in pain. I hate ulcers on the tongue. So painful and hard to avoid when you’re eating. Hope all those with toothache get some relief. Your dentist sounds pretty good grammaretto

Marydoll Tue 19-May-20 16:15:12

Hi there fellow lockees!

Sorry you are wobbling Megs, we have all had our share of wobbles. At least you are having decent weather. The weather here is pretty miserable, so we are stuck in. It's pretty dreary.
Grammaretto, I hope your husband's feet are improving.
Dental problems are the last thing we need just now, Missedout. sad

I have had a great day, well it's all relative isn't it? grin

My neighbour phoned to say she had seen the fresh fish van at the end of the street. It comes all the way from Pittenweem on the East Coast once a week, a two hour journey and not the most pleasant of ones, as the Forth crossing bridges are not where you want to be a rush hour.
We got the last three pieces of line caught haddock. It cost more than a piece of steak, but so worth it! We shall be having battered haddock and home made chips tonight.
The lady was totally cleaned out, as she had been so busy.
It's so good to see small businesses surviving in this chaotic world.

DD then appeared with three tins of condensed milk. My cup overfloweth. grin. Tablet is back on the menu. Missedout, I think you should give it a miss, we don't want to make matters worse. sad

I have been culling yet another wardrobe, I wished I hadn't started, I'm feeing pretty wiped out just now and I have a mess to clear up! grin
I got a bit sad looking all the glam outfits I used to wear to functions, I don't suppose we will ever be doing that again!
However, as DH says: We are alive!, wise words.
Take care everyone.

Grammaretto Tue 19-May-20 17:13:20

Hello Megs welcome to our wonderful prison. You do sometimes wonder what you've done to be condemned to the cells. Stay around for hot chocolate and sometimes a story at bedtime.

We have our wobbles. I can feel very sorry for myself but as Marydoll says we are alive and there is lots to be grateful for.

We got on well at the surgery. DH feet were tenderly annointed and bound and he was told we were doing the right thing. The chat to oncology went well too after I'd reminded him not to just say I'm fine on automatic, when he isn't.
They will phone again soon and he may have to change his meds. again

Megs36 Tue 19-May-20 17:44:36

????to-us all.....

Doodle Tue 19-May-20 21:59:57

grammaretto glad your DH was well looked after. Must be a relief to get him checked over.
I suppose it’s too much to hope you found some more chocolates in your wardrobe marydoll ?
Sleep well all. Help yourself to hot chocolate or beverage of your choice in the kitchen Megs
Mr and Mrs P hope you are ok.
Sleep well all

Dreamkeeper Wed 20-May-20 00:13:43

Signing in at this odd hour as in search of another hot chocolate and whatever is added!!!
Life has been rather "heavy" here trying to cope with my beloved`s toothache. As most of you will probably agree, men can be ultra stubborn, and mine is no exception!
He has suffered in silence all day long.
I have wanted him to get in touch with our own Dental practise simply to find out what plans are in place for such eventualities...........all to a deaf ear!
However finally, he has agreed to phone his GP early in the morning because I now believe he needs antibiotics first.
BUT then another problem arises, should he be able to visit the Dental Surgery some 7 miles away.
How does he get to and from?
He obviously will have to give in and break his shielded position.
He thinks he is quite capable to both drive both ways.
I disagree.
He is a very ill man,his chemo is due shortly and that leaves him extremely unwell for a week at least.
Not so long ago he was completely wheelchair bound.
The real truth is he cannot, safely, do very much.
Oh!!thank you all for putting up with my long moan,I do despair. This is something I feel is testing my resolve to the limit.

You have a husband very similar to mine obviously Grammeretto.....even now when he obviously is truly in pain, he still insists "I`m fine"........I am sure it is a man thing.
Good though hearing your dear man had his troubled feet were well treated, whilst these talks with our oncologists are such great people whom listen avidly, and have the ability to read between the "I`m fine" phrases!!

On a more social note, hello and welcome Megs, you will find the inmates here extremely friendly, and if you are truly good Marydoll might, just might let you have some of her stash of chocolates!!

Its a busy life culling one`s wardrobe Marydoll, although having done that prior to the move I haven`t that job these days, yet the days never seem to be too long as the way we have structured our day seems to be working fairly well.Always with the odd wobbles though!

I too value greatly the fact we have a garden Doodle,it has been our saving grace.I feel so much for the many mums with a small family perhaps living in a small flat up a tower block without such an amenity. It must be pure hell.
You have "sussed" our gentleman on his scooter here so completely!!
We have learnt although he means no real harm,he has to be avoided at all costs!
Something we did not learn easily!

You lot will have saved me from harm this evening/morning,and I for one bless the day this thread was first started by our Doodle
Three cheers indeed!!!!!

I shall now toddle off to my dreams............hopefully.

BradfordLass73 Wed 20-May-20 00:52:30

Grammaretto you reminded me of something with this:
I was excited today to find that after the rain, the little wildflower seeds have germinated

We once lived in a back-to-back, built late 18th century for mill workers flocking in from rural areas. The charmless yard was flagged with Yorkshire stone.

I decided I wanted a garden so my DH and spent a day with a crow-bar lifting them, exposing the earth beneath.
It was a laborious job, so nothing else was done that day.
It rained in the night and for the next 3 days.

On the 4th day I went out and found the little patch of earth covered with Scarlet Pimpernell, Bird's Eye (Speedwell), Pink Campion, Wild Violet and starry Chickweed.

Those little seeds had lain dormant for over 150 years, waiting patiently for freedom.
Just like us.

My grandson is 11 today and I'm leaving the house for the first time in 60 days to join the family for a birthday meal.
I'm nervous. Silly isn't it?

Doodle Wed 20-May-20 04:05:55

For some reason I am awake tonight. Nothing wrong just not sleepy. Maybe I forgot to put some magic potion in my chocolate. ? When it comes to waking up in the morning I will of course be fast asleep ?
Oh dear panache what a dilemma. First things first I think. As you suggest it is quite likely poor MrP needs antibiotics, so a phone call to the GP first thing would be a good idea. If he does get antibiotics it may well solve the problem for now but if a visit to the dentist is needed then perhaps a taxi would be ok if he sits in the back with the window open a bit. Perhaps one way of stopping him driving is to say that the dentist may well give him some treatment which means he wouldn’t be able to drive himself back. Men and driving is a problem they don’t give in easily. Hope you get some help soon as the toothache must be causing you both a lot of worry.
bradfordlass what a lovely story. I hope your grandson has a lovely birthday and you enjoy your trip out. Not silly to be a bit apprehensive but the pleasure of seeing family should soon overcome that.

Grammaretto Wed 20-May-20 08:43:32

Oh dear Dreamkeeper/Panache I am so sorry for you/us!
On the plus side: we have been a while in lockdown so you won't be the first to have this problem and with any luck a call to either doctor or dentist will have the answer.

I think your worries about the transport are to do with those demons that come and poke you late at night. A sleep and you will feel better in the morning.

I do the phoning BTW, if left to DH he would suffer in terrible silence.

Bradfordlass thank you for the wild flowers. A similar thing happened here. When we moved in there was a bank of tiny blue flowers heralding the Spring but over the years the bank got covered with rubbish from tradesmen (and us) and the flowers were a distant memory until I decided to clear the bank and there they were . It was more like 40 years not 150 but still how amazing for those little bulbs to lie dormant so long.

Grayson Perry during his art club on Monday night drew attention to the flowers which burst through the flagstones outside his studio which was built over a Victorian garden.

But the other side of the coin, on our trip back from the surgery I noticed how many houses had incredibly neat front gardens and one woman was on hands and knees with a scraper cleaning the pavement! The Council have stopped the weedkiller so there seems to be a competition to compensate.

Our garden girl is due at 9am to mow the grass as I chickened out of growing a field..

Dreamkeeper Wed 20-May-20 16:58:44

What would I do without your support?
I certainly had a fit of whatsoever last night!!
I think I will have a double dose of the special ingredient you add to our hot chocolate Doodle

Indeed yes some movement this morning and indeed Grammeretto just like your good self the `phoning was down to me!
First our Surgery only to recieve a firm blank, they do nothing with teeth.
(I always thought they treated the body and when I last checked my teeth were in my body!!)
Then his Dentist, sadly his own lady dentist will not be in until tomorrow, but we now have an arrangement to `phone her first thing so that we can follow whatever the advice maybe.
Hopefully removal of at least 1 of the offending teeth, there are actually 2,one in the top,the other in the bottom, both on the same side.
As for the travelling, I am going to ask good friends this evening if perhaps they could take us over.
Watch this space!
It is so worthwhile when you share a problem and find folk kind enough to listen and offer sensible advice.

I am very much on your pathway Bradfordl;ass, such a pleasure seeing a plethora of wild flowers.Finding such a treasure filling your little reclaimed "patch"must have truly lifted your spirits, such a riot of colour too.
Your story reminded me of our first marital home,a new mid terrace Council house. The frontage was small and on a slope so I thought surely ideal as a tiered rockery.
Knowing zilch about flowers or gardening I decided to order a number of seeds from a gardening firm, duly diligently setting them in differing secxtions of my prepared ground.
After seeing a wealth of greenery appear I thought I must do some weeding as I did not want my flowers to be over run,so I spent some time out there on my knees weeding................or so I thought!
I soon found out I had actually removed all flowers and had left behind the weeds!
It took me sometime to live down that first experience, true to say I was far more careful afterwards and indeed had many a beautiful show to prove it!!
A case of "we live and learn!!"

Enjoy the birthday meal by the way, hopefully the first of many "escapes"

I can well imagine many gardens will be in pristine order this year, thanks to this enforced lock down.Perhaps it will mean we again become a nation of gardeners as we once were.

Wishing you a good sleep tonight Doodle as it is so very miserable when one cannot get a night`s shut eye ...........and missing out on those special dreams we seem to be getting at this point in time.Do remember to top up my speciality if you please!!

Am actually feeling tired after the lovely warm bright sunshine today,so hopefully,it will be early to bed.......and sleep.Fingers crossed that this toothache does not decide to rage at the wrong moment!
He has been in enforced peace all day, thanks to paracetamol!

Doodle Wed 20-May-20 20:45:02

panache Alan Tichmarshsaid weeds are just flowers growing in the wrong place. ?.
Hope you gets some success with MrP and the dentist ?

BradfordLass73 Wed 20-May-20 22:22:37

Dreamkeeper oh dear, has your doctor never heard of anti-biotics which could easily be given if your DH has an infecton.

You can't be the only one who's pulled up flowers with the best of intentions and I agree with Alan Titchmarsh - weeds are actually wild flowers and (IMHO) probably have as much right to grow as cultivated ones.

The birthday meal was lovely. My grandson chose 'Mexico' and the first thing to happen was the poor young server flung a plate of hot chickpeas and corn in my lap.

He was mortified and I reassured him it was no big deal but frankly I'm amazed it wasn't a regular occurence as it was so dark.

Do restaurants in the UK do that? There was some interesting decor: decoupage and artefacts but unless you were right next to them, were lost in the gloom.
However, young Luka loved it and the food was really good.
I gave him a traditional pounamu (greenstone) axe-head pendant, plus the dolphin picture which he loved.

I think some enterprising company should make a bouncy ball with little sucker-end tentacles like this.
So we can throw Corona gainst a wall. grin

Doodle Wed 20-May-20 22:30:29

bradfordlass the young man in the restaurant was lucky you took his mishap so well. Many would have caused uproar but I agree with you. Accidents happen. Hope you managed to get some of your food on a plate ? Glad your grandson enjoyed himself.
Hope you get some sleep tonight Mr and MrsP. Extra ingredients in your hot chocolate to help you sleep I hope. Good luck with the dentist tomorrow. Sleep well all.

Mamissimo Wed 20-May-20 22:41:48

Good evening! Well Fergal the cat still hasn’t been wormed, the grouting hasn’t been cleaned- but I’ve planted my chillies and some San Marzano tomatoes. I’m definitely doing pleasurable jobs and not the grotty ones. Next week I will do better.

My BiL was admitted to hospital two days ago and we were told that he wouldn’t survive last night. As a cancer patient he has been shielding and they told us today that he doesn’t have Covid (we knew that) and that they were moving him to a ward with no Covid patients!

This does mean that my sister and their children can be with him, which is much better, in a bad way. I didn't sleep well last night without Doodles Doctored Dopey Making Chocolate so please can I have a fully leaded large one tonight?

Sleep tight

CherryCezzy Wed 20-May-20 23:11:51

Hello inmates, thought I'd venture out of my (virtual) cell to see what's been going on in the rest of the gaol.
I was only saying a few days ago that last week was the best, relatively speaking, since lockdown began. It wasn't even spoilt by the dratted seizures I had during the night into Saturday and again into Sunday. Then I woke up on Monday feeling as flat as a pancake and I stayed that way. I had another seizure in my sleep last night, fell out of bed (again) and am achy and bruised all over again ?. I'm inflating slowly now though, and no that isn't a reference to my weight as the scales say I've lost 4lbs ?

Dreamkeeper I hope this doesn't offend you, considering the circumstances you related but you saying I certainly had a fit of whatsoever last night gave me a little giggle as I had an "ever so certain fit last night" ?
Like Doodle says I really hope the dentist can help your DH ?

Grammaretto, I'm pleased that MrG has had his feet tended to. Let us know how he's getting on, I hope they quickly heal well.

I noticed that in my absence a few others came out of their cells which was lovely to see, although I wish they and all of us didn't have to either be in our cells or confined at all. I hope they come out and chat again ?

I hope your venture out for your grandson's 11th birthday BradfordLass wasn't as scary as you thought and that you really enjoyed yourself, I'm sure you did on such a lovely occasion. I hope your grandson enjoyed his birthday ?

Before my brain goes to mush, as its prone to do now the additional meds are kicking in I think I'll settle for a hot chocolate and toddle back to my cell.

Good night inmates ?

Grammaretto Wed 20-May-20 23:47:50

It is good to read about your goings on. I hope MrDream gets his teeth attended to soon.
I am so sad to hear of your BiL Mamissimo

I hope you really did enjoy the birthday meal BradfordLass

As hunger is the best sauce I hope sunshine is a good sedative.
Such a warm day we had salad and icecream and my choice of chocolate was cold Oaty chocolate drink.

The garden was very well tended today. It's looking lovely just a shame the children can't come here to play.

Good night and sleep well especially Cherry

Doodle Thu 21-May-20 11:20:16

Good morning all. Hope you all slept well last night.
mamissimo sorry about your BIL. At least he can have loved ones with him which is something. So Fergal still escaped the worming. ? sounds as though you have been busy planting though.
cherry sorry you’ve had another bruising experience. Perhaps you need one of those Michelin type duvet coats to wrap youself in to give you extra padding. Hope you’re not too badly hurt.
grammaretto your salad sounds nice. We were very naughty last night. It was such a lovely evening that we stayed on the balcony longer than usual and had an extra glass of Chardonnay. Lovely and cold from the fridge. Delicious ?
I must get on with my painting today. I seem to be getting slower and slower getting started in the morning. By the time I’ve finished GN it’s almost lunchtime.
panache hope you and MrP are ok . I must say I love grammaretto’s new name for your DH Mr Dream. Makes him sound very romantic ?

Mamissimo Thu 21-May-20 22:11:25

My lovely BiL passed away this afternoon - we will miss his warmth and humour immeasurably.

Fergal remains unwormed but he doesn’t seem bothered! It’s been too hot to tackle the grouting - and that’s my excuse. We did deal with cleaning the glass roof in the kitchen so we enjoyed a large gin in the garden as a reward.

We’ve used up all our energy today so it’s a early night for us. Sleep tight

CherryCezzy Thu 21-May-20 22:21:28

Gosh gov'nr it's quiet, I hope everyone is okay or have my shake rattle and roll incidents scared everyone into hiding ☠️ ?

Dreamkeeper, my GP practice won't deal with anything tooth related, infection, pain etc. I hope you managed to sort out the transportation to the dentist so your DH received treatment and a successful outcome from it.
I think dental problems are "catching" lately. My WP has a troublesome tooth giving him a bit of grief but not seriously yet and I have a tooth that wobbles one day and is fine the next. The gum has swollen up a couple of times but it hasn't developed into a full grown abscess and is always fine the next day. ?neither of us are going to need an emergency appointment.

I'm glad you had a lovely time on your grandson's birthday BradfordLass and that he enjoyed his day. The poor waiter must have been mortified to spill food on you but at least it wasn't gooey or sticky food. I think you handled it with good grace ?

Oh Mamissimo, so sorry to hear about your BiL. It's good that your sister and their children can be beside him though, a small blessings.

Doodle, your idea of a padded duvet coat to wear at night is an interesting one, not practical but interesting ?. I think it might be too close to ideas of straight jacketing in a padded cell ?. I'm also thinking ? it might be a bit hot?for me to sleep ?.

My mind is still a bit mushy so I'll say night inmates.
Take care, one day, one day we'll get out of here and then we can pay a visit to the Lock Up pub and celebrate ?

CherryCezzy Thu 21-May-20 22:31:01

Crossed posts Mamissimo, although you knew it was coming it isn't any easier is it. So sorry to hear your BiL has now died. I'm sure you and the rest of your family are exhausted.
I do hope you sleep well, take care of yourself ?

Doodle Thu 21-May-20 22:37:14

mamissimo I am so sorry. It must be really hard not being with family at this time. flowers
cherry hope you are ok. You need that mattress on the floor if you’re going to be doing gymnastics at night. Hope things are more peaceful now.
My DH could have done with a padded jacket this afternoon. He got up from his chair in the study and caught his foot in the castor. Not having anything to hold on to, he grabbed the back of the chair which swivelled round taking him with it in a slow motion arc across the floor. Be ended up bashing his back against the door and his nether regions on the floor. I think he will be hitting the paracetamol tonight. Fortunately, he appears to be unharmed apart from a bruised behind. ?
Sleep well all

Nortsat Thu 21-May-20 22:43:19

Just popping in to wish everyone a peaceful night.

Condolences to Mamissimo.

Hot chocolate and a restful night to all. ?⭐️⭐️
