I caught just the last few minutes of the latest briefing from Downing Street - the last questioner asked Jennie Harries if she had a second home and has she visited it in the past weeks; Hancock called an end to the meeting before she could reply!

I think she’ll stay until the worst of this is over and then Nicola will request her resignation.

A friend's sister-in-law had to attend her husband's funeral 2 days ago on her own. There were no other mourners and she had to walk into the crematorium, stand there while a few words were said, and then go home by herself

And then there are these selfish idiots like Calderwood and many others ..... words fail me!!!!

At the briefing journalists mentioned more than one trip to Calderwood’s holiday home. She didn’t deny it, so I’m assuming it’s true.

The thing is, this has taken away attention from the actual crisis and that’s not good. I can’t understand why she hasn’t fallen on her sword, tbh.

There are many excellent medical professionals in Scotland. Time to appoint one of them instead of Calderwood.

Baggs, the risk to others is always there. We know that people are most infectious before they get any symptoms (if they get symptoms at all). Moving to another area and then perhaps going out, exercising, shopping locally etc. runs the risk of bringing infection to that community. I feel it's so important to lead by example. How can we ever respect those who bend the rules?

This is all good argument, hetty. However, the scenario I outlined was much simpler than one including going out exercising or shopping. It was: house1, own car, house2 and always well away from other people.

Going out exercising and shopping is of course allowed and, once again, the idea seems to be that if people keep a good distance from others they will minimise the risk of infection either way.

So I reall think that the main lesson from Caroline Calderwood's actions is that she wasn't doing what she was advising other people to do. This is why it's problematic.
We do not live in an authoritarian state where we are ordered about so leaders not leading by example means that they lose the confidence of the people they're trying to influence.

She may well be important to Nicola but she can’t possibly be the public face any more, lost all credibility full stop .

paddy there have already been a number of posts on different threads questioning the behaviour of the UK Govt’s CMO. It’s now the turn of Dr Calderwood who has behaved abominably and the SG who have already put out a statement defending her actions.

Can't imagine that her neighbourly relations are going to improve after this Callistemon.

Marydoll is right; it will be her children who suffer because of their mother's actions and in fact her whole family will suffer badly from the fallout and that would be grossly unfair if that happened. I expect that there is a great deal of regret and remorse in the Calderwood household today and it remains to be seen if her career and integrity can survive it.

Obviously she doesn't get on with her holiday home neighbours or one of them would have had a key to be able to check on the place for her. A phone call would have sufficed.
