GGMK3 nailed it.
Good Morning Sunday 17th May 2026
The excuses on here for going out are increasing again. No hair dressers this time, but exercise and dogs.
What is WRONG with people?
GGMK3 nailed it.
I have been out today, in the car to my allotment to water and then to the butcher where I stocked up. I used to have dogs and I would definitely have taken them out. Its absurd to say that it's an excuse. The government have said that we are allowed to walk dogs , have a walk for exercise and go to our allotments. No one is forcing you out, if you don't want to that's your choice, but don't tell the rest of us that we are wrong.
Matt Hancock has warned that there may be a total lockdown meaning no outside exercise if people don't stick to the rules.
I went to my usual place to walk at 8am this morning. Usually it is deserted at that time but today it was busy. I understand that people want to walk their dogs and not blaming them at all but social distancing was very difficult with the amount of people who came.
I think this is the problem. So few places in the countryside are available now that everyone flocks to those that are. I don't think people are being irresponsible. You actually don't know till you get there how many people have come.
This used to be a very quiet place I dread to think how busy it is now as I have seen a lot of people passing my house on their way there.
Can your daughter and grandson not go out for a walk GagaJo ?
I was bored many posts ago but I was too sorry for you to stop. You seem to have some real issues and I am sorry you have to cope with that.
Going out to exercise either alone or with one other member of your household or walking your dog, is not an excuse to go out.
The Government have told us that an hour of exercise a day, as long as you are free from infection , is not only allowed but encouraged for the good of our health.
As long as people avoid each other on these walks by a good few metres, there is no problem.
Why are you so angry?
I didn't even consider your family GagaJo; why would I? You chose that. It was personal.
What you are suggesting in this post is that everyone is somehow at fault if, while sticking to the government rules, they do not do what you think they should.
There is no argument in that sort of post; it is just irrelevant to anyone but you.
OK GGMK3, I'm bored now. Over and out.
I know what a moot point is GagaJo. I was asking you what you were referring to as "moot". I am happy to explain these things but it is getting tiresome. That we have total lockdown at the moment is not moot. We do not have one, that is an inarguable fact.
You could make out a case that we should move towards one. That would be moot. Otherwise, it's just you insisting they do what you want them to do.
I'm sure 3 weeks ago, when my family went into lockdown, you thought I was illogical and reactionary. But in fact, our family response was based on empirical evidence. China. Italy. Spain. HARDLY a straw man. Blimey. The world is on fire and you think it's hypothetical?
Grocery shopping, obviously, is unavoidable growstuff. No two ways around it.
While I DO feel very sorry for my GS, I know that I'm doing the best thing, keeping him in. Better healthy, than risking him coming into contact with others. Better having granny alive than risking going out and losing her.
A moot point, GGMK3, is discussion that is hypothetical. The disagreement we have about total lockdown is moot because it looks very much as if that is where the government is heading as per Matt Hancock therefore rendering any discussion pointless.
It's not the government I am disagreeing with GagaJo so less of your "straw men" lies, please. I am just commenting on the difficulty in discussing with illogical people.
Perhaps though, you now think you are the government as that is the only thing that would make sense of you suggesting I don't agree with them.
There's a difference between going to a hairdresser and having a walk. AFAIK hair can't be styled from two metres away. I still maintain haircuts/colouring and eyebrow treatments aren't essential anyway.
I haven't left my small house for three weeks and haven't been in contact with any other living person. I have treated everything that's come through my letterbox with extreme caution, so I'm as sure as I possibly could be, that I'm not infected.
I really will have to go out for some essential grocery shopping in the next few days, so I 've tried to assess from local Facebook groups when the best time would be.
I've had a couple of meltdowns, but it hasn't been that difficult. HOWEVER, I don't have a dog or lively toddlers stuck in a flat/house without a garden. I don't think a walk for the sake of it is absolutely essential, but I don't know what I would do with a dog/small children.
My bet would be on a stricter lockdown being imposed within days. Additionally, I'd like to see everybody arriving in the country subject to much stricter checks.
What is a "moot point" GagaJo? I have mastered mind-reading.
It looks like its a moot point anyway GGMK3. Seems thats where the government is taking us next, whether you agree or not.
No one has made me "moderator" as you put it GagaJo but even in your world, where you make up the rules and then insist others stick to them, you must realise that I, as one person making up their own mind, can decide there is no logic in your argument and that I don't want to be part of it. Unlike you, at no time did I tell anyone else what to do.
It would seem sensible lemongrove and I expect the Chinese authorities will put them in isolation. One advantage of an authoritarian regime is that nobody listens to cries about individual rights, however much people might complain about having their liberty taken away.
I expect the infected people will be put into isolation Ellan
And/or tested as well.
Well, thanks for setting that goalpost GGMK3. I wasn't aware someone had made you a moderator.
The POINT is, a total lockdown HAS been suggested. And there is ongoing discussion on the site about those that disagree with it.
The reason that total lockdown has put forward as a possible essential is because so many people seem to think they are the exception. Which is where this thread started.
It's where we're going to end up. And there will be hue and cry on here about how it's due to selfish people. There was the same discussion around bl**dy hairdressers on here a few weeks ago.
There still remains to be 5 cruise ships at sea waiting to be emptied of passengers. The damn virus is never going to go away at this rate.
30 infected people have returned to Wuhan from other countries. Just to start off the whole process again ?
We can’t trust what the government say. We need self preservation. Common sense.
I had missed this. That explains it. I am sorry GagaJo but, although you are perfectly reasonably setting your own rules over and above the Government ones. However, it is beyond reason to expect people to a) know what your rules are and b) think they have to follow your rules.
There is no point in trying to have a discussion if that is what you believe.
620 infected people alighted from a cruise ship in Sydney some of those are Brits---and guess what ? They're flying home, unless they're already here under a cloak of darkness.
Repatriation is the thing I can't live with !

Perfectly ok for you to make your own rules Gagajo. Our garden borders open fields, we get the odd pheasant and yesterday a lapwing passed by. No humans. So if its okay with you, I'll use my own common sense that has served me well all my life, and wait for this afternoon's briefing.
