Not pronouncing "ng" (known as "g dropping") only happens with participles, nouns where "ing" is a suffix and some words like "something". Nobody would say "sin" instead of "sing".

Listen to some "toffs". They do the same thing, but it's in the context of a whole range of upper class pronunciation, so doesn't sound weird.

Yes but Patel cannot be remotely described as a toff, so I wonder why. Is it an affectation?

As I watched this update, my son messaged me from his apartment in New York. It is very near to the Hospital with the refrigerated trailers being used as temporary morgues and is featured in the online BBC news update today. He and his wife are working from the apartment and are together, so that gives me some comfort.

Actually I find the mocking of somebody’s accent a really snobby thing to do. It’s not something I would have expected from people who believe in socialism.

So Priti Patel doesn’t speak as one who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth....so what? She speaks perfectly clearly, my hearing isn’t the best, but I heard every word.

Nobody has mentioned her numerical slip up:
"Three hundred thousand and thirty four, nine hundred and seventy four thousand tests carried out across the UK"

If Diane Abbott made that mistake, it’d be front page news.

I am not mocking her accent, she doesn’t appear to have a pronounced one .

I am irritated by her diction. And don’t be silly it’s not snobbish it is irritation.

I'm irritated by her poor diction, apparent low intelligence and uncaring attitude. What is she doing (doing, not doin) as our Home Secretary?

It was not her finest hour I must say, along with all her dropped “g’s” and somethink.

Does anyone remember the massive grief given to Abbott over her muddled numbers? Makes you smile doesn’t it?
