ANGER

We need to be angry. We need to hold the government to account.

Yes, many of the populace are not abiding by the very lax lockdown. BUT the government should have abided by the WHO advice to TEST, TEST, TEST. By not doing that, they will have cost tens of thousands of British deaths. Our family members, our friends, our colleagues.

When this is over / slowing down, they need to be held accountable. We had THREE months notice. We watched Italy and Spain. And yet, they did nothing.

Tickingbird Are you confusing “Pop” (Eton) with the Bullingdon Club, (Oxford ) - private all-male dining club for Oxford University students, known for its wealthy members, grand banquets, boisterous rituals, and occasionally (oh really?) bad behaviour.

Number 1 for tickingbird

My previous post being in answer to this bizarre post.

tickingbird Mon 13-Apr-20 21:13:04

1) A bully boy. A member or ex member of the Bullingdon Club. Whence arrogant upper-class boys treated working-class people like dirt

I’ve never been a member of the Bullingdon Club Gagajo. In fact I didn’t go to Eton but I do know someone that did if it helps? ???

Labaik Mon 13-Apr-20 21:13:03

This is not about political point scoring. This about people dying in vast numbers and the fact that we need to do everything possible to stop that happening. And if that means questioning what the government are telling us sobeit. I mean, they told us all we needed to do was wash our hands. Then that sporting events were safe. Then told us we'd better shut ourselves indoors after most of us had already decided to do that anyway. Now a lot of us think that wearing masks might be a good idea. Shall I run a book on how long it will be before the government play catch up. I say 7 days.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Apr-20 21:12:16

daisy ???????

That just about sums this whole debacle up.

GagaJo Mon 13-Apr-20 21:09:22

Hahahaha, Daisymae!

Daisymae Mon 13-Apr-20 20:38:38

Apparently all types of masks seem to have a role to play in restricting the spread. Even home made ones. Expect that the government will come to this conclusion in the next week or so.

3) No, you're right. 980 isn't 1000. I rounded it up in error. BUT that 980 isn't including care home deaths, so actually, the number will be higher than 1000.

lemongrove Mon 13-Apr-20 19:36:30

MawB grin I would also go with the a 'tenuous grip of reality' for some posters.
Either that or political point scoring is the name of their game.

Labaik Mon 13-Apr-20 19:15:04

They actually admitted today that masks might not stop you from catching the virus but would prevent an asymptomatic person from coughing or sneezing thereby infecting you. Which again is something that we've been saying for ages. And in another interview [I didn't notice who it was with] it said that the reason for not advocating the use of masks was that there weren't enough of them to go round. As ever the people are leading the government. Going off at a tangent here but my daughter did a click and collect from Tescos today and they have really got their act together; she was very impressed.

Daisymae Mon 13-Apr-20 18:39:37

People were in despair at the governments lack of action. We watched other countries healthcare systems implode. Some took their children out of schools, others started to isolate, football matches were being cancelled etc. etc. The government have always been playing catch up. Even now Scotland and Wales have announced that lockdown will be extended. Our government - well Raab hinted today that they will not be ending, but they are having a meeting later this week. Seriously.

MawB Mon 13-Apr-20 18:35:37

My apologies- that should have been addressed to tickingbird

MawB Mon 13-Apr-20 18:28:46

The numbers of deaths are huge, but as you say, they are not, and never have been 1000 a day, thank goodness.Exaggeration isn’t help in discussion

M0nica are you living in cloud cuckoo land?
980 deaths in hospitals alone on Friday - so not counting those in care homes or in the community.
I think it is more than highly likely that more than 20 deaths occurred in that 24 hour period - so by my reckoning that makes it easily 1000
Wherein lies the “unhelpful” exaggeration?

For once I agree with you GrannyGravy.

growstuff Mon 13-Apr-20 17:44:46

Why do you worry for their mental health?

growstuff Mon 13-Apr-20 17:43:53

I suspect they are over 1000 a day, if deaths in care homes and at home were included. Most of these people haven't even been tested.

We'll probably never know the exact number of deaths brought on by Covid-19. The only way will be in hindsight by comparing the death rate with previous years.

Chestnut Mon 13-Apr-20 17:41:46

I agree with sharon103 and GG13. So many keyboard warriors here who think they could run the country. I worry for their mental health.

With all the stories of people breaking isolation, I suspect that the Easter weekend could be the time when the number of people getting infected rises - the result of that could appear in graphs in due course.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 13-Apr-20 17:13:55

Sharon103 ditto

Glorybee Mon 13-Apr-20 17:07:43

I agree with your post sharon103.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 13-Apr-20 17:07:22

Carry on arguing amongst yourselves, but Covid-19 is not going to disappear just because a few countries go into lockdown.

The only solution to being reasonably safe is the finding of and successful testing of a credible vaccine.

Until then each time anyone in the world leaves their home they have a
chance of catching Covid-19, to think otherwise is either naive or has a head in the sand mentality

Callistemon Mon 13-Apr-20 17:04:51

Our medical experts predicted that the Easter weekend would bring the peak and let us hope fervently that this prediction is correct and that the numbers will start to decrease.
