This gentleman is almost 100 and is walking 100 lengths of his garden to raise money for the NHS. He was hoping to raise £1000 but has now raised over 6 million pounds

I was emotional watching this and have donated via just giving. What an inspiration

He’s amazing I hope he gets a knighthood not only for raising all that money but for cheering us all up too

I have donated and will be sending a birthday card. Tom has given a lifetime of service, to army, to police and now to charity. Give Tom a knighthood. He is the embodiment of the best of British spirit. I hope Boris and the Queen are following his fundraising efforts. I won't complain about the lockdown again.

What a hero. May he have many more happy, healthy years ahead of him. He's amazing.

NannyG123 Thu 16-Apr-20 17:11:39

My heart melts for him.

Sparklefizz Thu 16-Apr-20 17:00:28

I have cried. He's a wonderful man and deserves a knighthood.

Something special needs to be done to commemorate this elderly gent and his wonderful achievement. I think a knighthood or an OBE would be truly fitting

Over £13 million now. Captain Tom is a superhero ❤?

What a wonderful man - born at the same time as my parents.
They were the toughest generation, born during a world war, grew up during the depression, fought in another world war and endured the worst of times - and were delighted to see their chidlren, my lucky and blessed generation, enjoy the best of times . I hope he gets recognition for his efforts - and what efforts they must have been to walk that far at 99 years old.

Watching him on the news as we speak. He has raised 13 million. I am now ashamed of my grumbling. I agree he should be given a knighthood for his selfless support of the country, and I hope his birthday card from the Queen contains a personally penned message of thanks from her.

He’s raised millions and made millions cry, such a lovely man and example to us all.

I shed a tear just now, when Captain Tom spoke about hope for the future. It isn`t just his walking efforts, it is what he says and how he says it. Just when we needed him

LadyO Thu 16-Apr-20 13:05:40

I cried, I donated. Lovely man... just what we need right now, some gentle inspiration and hope for the future.

Totally amazing ! I have so much admiration for him ...there is an address on FB (not his, but a Post office address) for anyone to send him a 100th birthday card …..mine is off complete with donation (I won't use Paypal since they tried to scam me once !) ...I so hope he gets a knighthood ….he deserves it over any 'celebrity'......his service to the King (in his day) and Queen, and his country should not go unrecognised. Bless him flowers

Amazing man. I hope the money will be well spent and not just tipped into the gaping hole of the NHS. I was very surprised that so many people from other countries have donated. How generous. Faith restored!

The epitome of a true national hero.. Every time I hear him speak such wise and reassuring words, I get something in my eye...

Blinko Thu 16-Apr-20 11:43:38

A hero in every sense of the word. What a fantastic achievement! You're never too old...

Grandmabeach Thu 16-Apr-20 11:37:47

He should automatically get a 100th Birthday card from the Queen. It would be lovely if he could receive a special letter from her on his birthday. His family must be so proud of him.

Wilma65 Thu 16-Apr-20 11:27:03

£12,800,000 now

Theoddbird Thu 16-Apr-20 11:04:41

He is so lovely. His local post office is preparing for the birthday cards on his 100 birthday

Thecatshatontgemat Thu 16-Apr-20 11:00:50

An antidote to all the vile scumbags in our society.
Give the man a knighthood whist he can still appreciate it.
Publicly thanked by our Queen, would mean a lot.

SillyNanny321 Thu 16-Apr-20 10:59:24

Absolutely wonderful marvellous man.

GabriellaG54 Thu 16-Apr-20 10:57:19

*This not thus.

GabriellaG54 Thu 16-Apr-20 10:56:51

Thus shows that Britain is indeed GREAT again. We always pull out all the stops.
