This gentleman is almost 100 and is walking 100 lengths of his garden to raise money for the NHS. He was hoping to raise £1000 but has now raised over 6 million pounds

I was emotional watching this and have donated via just giving. What an inspiration

'Give the man a knighthood', is the concensus on the DM online.
I can think of far too many undeserving cases but this isn't one of them.

Website has gone down againxso many people want to give set to raise over 14 million. The address to sendchis Birthday cards for the 30th

CleoPanda Thu 16-Apr-20 10:47:30

£12,504,296.44

Who say one person can’t make a difference?

jaylucy Thu 16-Apr-20 10:33:32

Bless him - he started this in a quiet way, just to try and raise a relatively small amount as a thank you to the NHS staff and just look what's happened !
I just hope that the money raised will go to actually where it is needed - unfortunately, donations to hospitals have a habit of disappearing somewhere and not being used in the right place.

A wonderful guy - I do hope the money is spent wisely.

I too have sent him a birthday card for his 100th on 30th April. Dear old soul - wonderful news at this horrible time.

oscaro11 Thu 16-Apr-20 10:28:48

He should receive a knighthood or similar as soon as possible. A true inspiration bless him.

timetogo2016 Thu 16-Apr-20 10:27:09

He was a hero who fought in wars and a hero today.
A plaque should be dedicated to him whilst he is still with us.

12 million now and donations from around the world. Such a gent and inspiration for us all especially when we are having 'a can't be bothered' day.

Patticake123 Thu 16-Apr-20 10:22:15

12 million

He's raised the spirits of the whole country , a real beacon of light when the news is all darkness. God bless you sir ( I think he deserves to be a sir) and thank you . I well up every time I see him on tv

Should be of the word, of course but typo could apply as well for this fantastic man. There is always something you can do as he has shown us.

A true gentleman in every sense of the world. Thank you Captain Tom, you are marvellous, encouraging us all to look at the positive. I see a young girl has set up a link encouraging all youngsters to send him a card on his birthday, the 30th April. Now we have his address thanks to Cassie J perhaps we could have a campaign on GN to do the same.

Grandmafrench Thu 16-Apr-20 10:05:12

Thanks for the address CassieJ. Seriously, not picking holes but just to be certain of deliveries , the name of the village is spelt

What a wonderful positive message to all. If this lovely man can make the effort, so can we. Such a timely uplifting example has really cheered me on.

Harris27 Thu 16-Apr-20 09:52:20

Just watched him on tv had tears in my eyes. Bless him a real trooper and the chancellor gave him a message too. Now what a hero!

Just been watching Captain Tom on TV, what an inspirational man, the response has clearly taken him by surprise too. He sent such a positive message to everyone .

Grandmafrench Thu 16-Apr-20 08:41:42

Imagine being able to achieve something like that at the end of a long life, well lived. What a poppet....sincerely hope his ability to motivate so many will earn him an ? award of some kind. Only fitting, I feel.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 16-Apr-20 08:23:44

What a generation!

Iam64 Thu 16-Apr-20 08:00:48

Yes, a real uplifting, life affirming story during these difficult days

travelsafar Thu 16-Apr-20 07:51:22

Fantastic achievement by this wonderful man.
Hoping that some of the money will be put in a trust and specifically be used to purchase and stock pile millions of items of PPE for NHS and Social Care workers so that if in the future we have another outbreak we will be ready.
