They didn't REQUEST it until Sunday. It isn't late at all.

*'On the Turkish side, two sources said a formal request from the UK related to the PPE consignment was not made until Sunday and the Turkish authorities immediately assisted.

The sources also revealed that the manufacturer of the goods bound for the UK only submitted a request to the Turkish ministry of health on Monday for permission to export the gear.'*

Not frightening at all if you read to the end GGJ

“There remains spare capacity in the critical care network across the capital to look after all coronavirus patients and others who need our care, and while it is incredibly reassuring for both staff and patients to have backup capacity at the Nightingale to alleviate pressure on ICU departments where needed, patients can be transferred to other hospitals in the city if they are better placed to receive them at that time – as is always the case.”

WWM, it is frightening, isn’t it?

I wonder where all our nurses went?

Ooh look a friend of the Tories making millions out of the crises.

Who would have thought such a thing?

Another time line. This puts on record the lies over testing.

The blame game in the corridors of power is cringeworthy. The bloke from the FCO who said not signing up to the EU scheme was a "political decision" after being questioned by Conservative MP Tom Tugendhat, has now been made to retract. Various sources (allegedly in government) have tried to blame Matt Hancock, who seems to have been set up to fail. They need to stop political games and get on with the job they've been voted to do, stop making stupid and unrealistic promises and start being trustworthy.

So all the doctors, nurses, support staff, home and residential home carers are being "negative" are they when they come on television and make desperate pleas for the equipment and tests they need?

It seems everybody but the government is responsible for the badly managed response to this virus. Even Gransnetters seem to be more worthy of blame than the government - they having been accused of being responsible for the lack of PPE!

I would think there are several people on here who are certainly not "comfortable" in their sitting rooms because they have family who are working in hospitals and care homes/private homes or they have relatives in residential homes. Some may still be giving this government the benefit of the doubt. However, many are very angry that, as part of the austerity agenda, there was a totally inadequate stock of PEP and, overall, a failure to follow the laid down steps of the pandemic plan, partly because of the lack of resources to do so.

Vile in this context (I think) means toe the party line. But if the party is dangerous, isn’t it more dangerous to follow?

There are people who are dead now because they adhered to the rules rather than using common sense.

growstuff Tue 21-Apr-20 23:37:52

I'm struggling to see where this thread is vile. Differences of opinion, sure, but not vile.

don't be sycophantic
I was not being, just passing a comment on another post which seemed polite, otherwise it would surely have been deleted.

I agree with Jane10's post of 17:26:33
Sycophant or not.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 23:04:56

True enough LG. Not often I agree with you, but I do agree they have a huge load to carry. But then, it IS what they're there for. And this is the biggest crisis of any of our lifetimes. I would never want to be a politician. Unfortunately, quite a lot of them aren't cut out for it either.

I agree Chris. Chaotic! What comes from 14 hours of working from home. I'd rather work at work. At least that's only 8 hours. Fried brains.

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 23:04:43

As in Johnson dithering over lockdown ?

lemongrove Tue 21-Apr-20 23:02:34

Dithering in their actions ChrisT as in Corbyn and his fence sitting.

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 23:00:28

It was the 'dithery' bit that confused my. BJ being the epitome of dithery... has he ever finished a sentence?

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 22:57:22

I think an awful lot more than two people will we confused by the above. ?

lemongrove Tue 21-Apr-20 22:55:32

I expect that cabinet members and senior health officials are dead tired Gaga.....and no wonder.Whichever political party was in control they would be pretty exhausted by the heavy workload and worry of it all.Despite that, they come onto tv every evening to explain what’s happening and patiently answer questions. As said before....armchair critics have the luxury of airing grievances whilst not having to do anything or provide all the answers.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 22:50:33

Argh! sic

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 22:50:15

Two people confused by your lack of puntuation there, ChrisT. I think you'll find that will be a C-.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 22:49:20

One too many 'was's there methinks.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 22:48:38

Oh, I see! You weren't ADDRESSING her, you were quoting her ChrisT. The lack of quotation marks confused me. Not exactly transparent there.

At least there is a leader for the O LG. Unlike the govt who are a rudderless ship. Starting to look like The Rime of the Ancient Mariner at those press briefings. A load of half-dead crew members who thought the albatross was at first was a good omen, but who has dragged them into a dead and dying sea (or a sea of dead and dying).

lemongrove Tue 21-Apr-20 22:47:04

Leader Of The Opposition Chris ( in full.....just for you)?

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 22:44:22

Having just ditched one dithery LOTO, .....

What's a LOTO? I don't think we've ditched Johnson, he's off sick.

lemongrove Tue 21-Apr-20 22:28:17

Oopsminty ??

lemongrove Tue 21-Apr-20 22:27:13

Well said Eglantine good posts putting the OP straight.
Opal grin spot on too!

Starmer isn’t even head, let alone shoulders above anyone right now, but is carping from the sidelines.Presumably he feels he has to ‘oppose’ even though he said last week that he wouldn’t do that at the moment.Do hope this isn’t another instance of his flip flopping, as I hoped for better.Having just ditched one dithery LOTO we don’t need another one.

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 22:25:58

GagaJo ...and I think you will find they were Eglantine21's words.

Apology accepted. :-)
