US President Donald Trump has been lambasted by the medical community after suggesting research into whether coronavirus might be treated by injecting disinfectant into the body.
He also appeared to propose irradiating patients' bodies with UV light, an idea dismissed by a doctor at the briefing.
Another of his officials had moments earlier said sunlight and disinfectant were known to kill the infection.
Mr Trump's own public health agencies (unsurprisingly) warn against bleach as a medicine.

red1 "Trumps poor mental health has been debated by leading shrinks for years". Are you sure? Where? This sounds very unprofessional of them. To analyse his public performance maybe, but to "debate" his "poor mental health" as though it is a given is terrible! I hope he has sued them. And I am no means a supporter of Trump in political terms.

"His promotion of anti malarial drugs( he had shares in the drug company)". Chloroquine is not the province of any particular drug company, it is marketed in different forms by several. Trump had a small, very remote interest in one and would give him negligible returns.

in-this-together.com/chloroquine-covid-19-vaccines-and-lives-lost-part-1/

"Chloroquine, in it’s various phosphate, sulfate and hydroxychloroquine forms, has emerged as potentially the best molecule for the possible preventative treatment of COVID 19 syndrome. With reasons for further research emerging as early as February 4th, it took the World Health Organisation (WHO) seven weeks to announce global SOLIDARITY trials. The WHO said trials won’t be double blind studies because of the need to balance scientific rigour against speed. This is supposedly a global emergency after all.

Odd then that claims of a lack of scientific double blind legitimacy has been the stick some have used to beat scientists, around the world, who have recognised the need for some urgency with chloroquine research. Releasing evidence more or less as soon as it was verified, their data on the possible efficacy of chloroquine has been gathering dust for nearly two months."

The west's biased view can be found in Wikipedia;
"Chloroquine was discovered in 1934 by Hans Andersag.[5][6] It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, the safest and most effective medicines needed in a health system.[7] It is available as a generic medication.[1] The wholesale cost in the developing world is about US$0.04.[8] In the United States, it costs about US$5.30 per dose.[1]............
Antiviral
Chloroquine has antiviral effects.[34] It increases late endosomal and lysosomal pH, resulting in impaired release of the virus from the endosome or lysosome – release of the virus requires a low pH. The virus is therefore unable to release its genetic material into the cell and replicate.[35][36]......
On 1 April 2020, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) issued guidance that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are only to be used in clinical trials or emergency use programs.[64]"
Obviously, in Europe, the Big Pharma, coupled with Gates and WHO (who made a U turn as described above) decided more money can be made from cv19 vaccine. So a previously labelled harmless drug had to be maligned.

I once asked why the NHS did not make its own drugs, having learned the agonising process it went through to obtain opiate based drugs for cancer patients a few years ago. I was told "We simply are not allowed to." I looked into a drug company in Cambridgeshire and was shocked.

If any of you think the people who get rich at the top of Big Pharma are benevolent, then I challenge you to work with them, closely. One very distinguished Professor of Medicine told me "They are more unethical, more immoral, more unscrupulous than any drug Dealer in illegal drugs". I had this repeated to me by another Consultant, so I guess it is fairly well known.

From The Guardian
A panel of experts put together by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the agency led by Dr Anthony Fauci, released treatment guidelines for Covid-19 on 21 April. The panel said that there was insufficient data to “recommend either for or against” hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine. However, the panel recommended against the use of hydroxychloroquine with azithromycin due to the risk of cardiac arrhythmia
Not a lot of point in attempting to cure the disease if the patient dies from the therapy, is there?.

Sodapop, I wrote a long reply and decided no point in getting in a tizzy over your reply, so deleted it.
One thing I'm sure of, going by your remark that there are enough of us on here, the Scots can't rely on you for support, if anyone makes a racist post about us.
What an unnecessary fuss over the remark made by Brunette.
As my mother used to say Some people would cause a rammy in an empty room.

Trumpaty trump will never come up trumps in this part of the world that`s for sure.
The only thing is ,is when he comes out with this s..t you can`t help but laugh at his stupidness.

Oh Please don't say that! Even in jest. Gun ownership is prolific in the States.

Don't forget the terrible history of Assassinations of Presidents of the USA. That is the last thing the world needs right now.

Juliet27 Fri 24-Apr-20 14:06:29

Yes that surprised me too JenniferE but apparently “Pointing to his head, Mr Trump went on: "I'm not a doctor. But I'm, like, a person that has a good you-know-what." So perhaps we should all have more respect for him!! ? ?

Tillybelle Fri 24-Apr-20 14:02:53

MawB It's so awful that he actually has people who believe in him and could be, indeed have been, influenced to follow his ideas.

I have wondered if his age is catching up with him. Although he has strong and enduring personality traits that make him speak before thinking and believe he is always right, so that might account for it.

I looked into South Korea's approach with has led to such remarkably lower deaths that you'd think the rest of the world would want to follow their methods to deal with it. As well as wide scale testing, they use hydroxychloroquine.

In a quick search for concise information I found:
www.fortunecryptonews.com/2020/03/is-chloroquine-behind-south-koreas-super-low-coronavirus-fatality-rate/

"Which Countries are Using Chloroquine?

Several countries, including China, South Korea and Belgium, have added chloroquine to their treatment guidelines for Covid-19. The drug is not officially approved as a treatment for this indication.

It’s interesting to note that South Korea reports a remarkably low coronavirus death rate with just 120 of their 9,037 confirmed cases ending in death.

Korea reports a 1.3% case fatality rate compared to 9.5% in Italy and 1.26% in the United States. It’s unclear if South Korea’s low death rate can be attributed to chloroquine, but it doesn’t seem to be hurting them.

Many American doctors are convinced that the drug can help patients suffering from Covid-19. Off-label prescriptions are soaring, and New York state has already procured 70,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine and 750,000 doses of chloroquine with plans to begin trials on Tuesday.

This article was edited by Sam Bourgi."

I still have access to a medical library and recent research papers, and, a couple of weeks ago looked at chloroquine in its clinical use. I believe (my own opinion, but once I mentioned it so many of my previous Colleagues said they were sure it is so) that it is being downplayed in the West because Big Pharma and Bill Gates, who practically own the WHO, want to create their vaccine and sell it for enormous profit. Gates wants everyone in the world vaccinated. He will own the vaccine and every time it is used he will get paid, just as he owns the rights to the way our computers work and gets paid for every computer created because he has the "copyright" or whatever it is called on the way computers start up. I may not have got the technical detail correct (he bought the original DOS ) but the result is the same. If he owns the vaccine "copyright" (I can't think of the proper word!) you can be sure that after 3 or so years, the whole world will need another vaccine of his, because the first one will have become out of date and so on, like the computers.
Bill Gates is not a philanthropist, do not be misled. He is so rich it is unbelievable, he just bought another residence: The Observer 04/23/20; "paid a staggering $43 million for a six-bedroom mansion in Del Mar, near San Diego."
For an easy to follow analysis of Bill Gates, a highly intelligent Scientist has independently made a short talk:

cdn1.richplanet.net/downloads/Richplanet_Show_282_The_Corona_Scam.mp4

Hydroxychloroquine is an old and cheap drug which does not make Big Pharma and Bill Gates rich but may alleviate some of the problems or even be more effective in novel Corona Virus. Like every drug, it has some side effects and a few people are more affected than others. Again, in the West, (especially a woman in France who receives vast amounts in salary and funding from Big Pharma,) they are publicly exaggerating these side effects which are no more than most drugs we are all given.

If I had CV19 and were offered Hydroxychloroquine I would give it a go. But only the Clinical dose! No weird stuff! And definitely no sun beds or bleach or whatever!!

It's horrific to think that Trump, the man who has the most power in the world actually tells people such things as injecting disinfectant. Horrific doesn't really touch it, does it?

But then, if the USA can have Trump, who are we to think that our Government have all the answers?

annifrance Fri 24-Apr-20 13:44:49

Does no-one in America have a gun??

JenniferEccles Fri 24-Apr-20 13:43:14

What I found extraordinary was the fact that neither of the experts/scientists with him spoke up to stop him in his tracks when it became apparent he was spouting nonsense.

Most US citizens of course will have the sense to ignore what he said, but a few may think it’s worth a try.

3nanny6 Fri 24-Apr-20 13:41:25

I heard Mr. Trump talking about his light treatment this morning but his ideas about disinfectant injections is dangerous and frightening, what planet is he living on? I do hope that himself and the lovely wife Milenia will be first for the trials.

oodles Fri 24-Apr-20 13:34:50

maybe Boris will tell him how awful the illness is if he does speak to him, the seriousness might get through to him, maybe. Back in the 18th century we had a king who suffered from mental illness, and was deputized for, if that could happen then back in those days it could happen now, but would the regent be any better?

tinaf1 Fri 24-Apr-20 13:34:15

I do wonder about him sometimes, wether he seriously has no filter at all or if he is suffering some mental issues,
Also I would have thought that his press speeches would have been written for him or at least vetted

annsixty Fri 24-Apr-20 13:27:59

I was sent a copy of an email doing the rounds repeating an article by a man named ?O’Reilly.
He says he follows everything to do with politics everyday and thinks Trump is the most intelligent man in the world today.
Everything he is doing is calculated to send a message and a warning to China and its leaders.
He believes they released it deliberately to bring the world to its knees and destroy the worldwide economy.
The Chinese dead are small beer compared to the size of their population and were expendable.
Nancy Pelosi is the devil in disguise and the most evil woman alive who will get us all killed.

Delusional? Trump or O’Reilly?
I instantly deleted it.

Chickenfeet Fri 24-Apr-20 13:27:35

Blzzle, you asked why Boris Johnson keeps making conversation with Trump even resting , for years the uk followed the American s tail , just like the Kuwait and Iraq war. Only hope to god he does not jump when Trump asks him to

hallgreenmiss Fri 24-Apr-20 13:07:42

Iam64
Absolutely agree with that.

MayBee70 Fri 24-Apr-20 13:04:48

I had read that people in either Iraq or Iran had been drinking bleach as a cure. I can’t quite believe that the president of America could say this. On the other hand, when I’m disinfecting all of my shopping I had wondered about having some sort of uv light machine that I could scan everything with. Perhaps I’ve been in lockdown too long.

is a joke and not what you really believe.

The man has just suggested injecting disinfectant.

cas58 Fri 24-Apr-20 12:36:27

I have to agree with Brunette10.

I think the people around him are either that stupid or afraid of him, after all he is a bully.

Jaycee5 Fri 24-Apr-20 12:32:02

That should be 'shame that disinfectant could NOT be injected in the body... '

Jaycee5 Fri 24-Apr-20 12:31:17

I hate Donald Trump as much as the next rational person and in the press briefing I saw, he said that it was a shame that disinfectant could be injected into the body and clean the body out.
Still a moronic thing to say, but immediately reported as him saying that it could be treated this way.
Having a stupid president is a big problem but they are easier to remove that a billionaire owned press that no longer fact checks quotes and in the long run no less damaging.

missdeke Fri 24-Apr-20 12:27:13

I often wonder how the press at these meetings don't just fall about laughing at the absolute drivel that comes out of Trump's mouth. The man should be sectioned.

sodapop Fri 24-Apr-20 12:17:44

Marydoll Two of my grandchildren are American citizens hence my interest.
There are enough Scots on here to make their own protests.
I don't personally know Brunette10 in the same way as I don't know any posters on here on a personal level. I can only react to what is written down.

Curlywhirly just because others are derided does not make it right.

I am as appalled by Trump's pronouncements as everyone else make no mistake about that.
That's enough from me on this thread I will shut up now.

Patticake123 Fri 24-Apr-20 12:08:04

I’ve got a tin of Jeyes fluid in the garage, I use it for the drains, but if President Trump thinks a dose of this will help well, who am I to argue....... the man is a moron.
