Details of warning supplied to the government of coronavirus

It worries me that some of the people posting on this thread seem to have no idea of what the responsibilities of a government are.

Spanish flu was 'only flu' Oopsadaisy. That didn't stop it killing millions of people worldwide over the course of two years.

Besides which, the Cygnus exercise in 2016 showed that the NHS wasn't even prepared for a flu pandemic but the tories did nothing about it..

Im with Toad and am sick of the media who seem to do nothing but stir things up and panic people. We now need to deal with Covid19 and the issues surrounding it. The journalists stupid and repetitive questions also get on my nerves. I am now beginning to avoid all but a daily update of news. It is also better for my mental health. Yes, with some things the government could have done better but Im still convinced this country has a 'cannot happen here ' attitude and thats exactly how we missed Ebola more by luck than good judgement. Thats me said my piece. I don't waste time on media and journalists.

So Corbyn & Co would have had it under control from day one?

I mean those taking part in the exercise. So you would have MOD, MI5/6 civil servants, scientists etc etc.

Oh well if actors are sorting it all out or us then it’s no wonder we are unprepared.

George would have known that the whole world would need PPEs and breathing apparatus and would have ordered it all immediately.

Yes of course it was only the U.K. government.

Theses scenarios are run by the various actors for and by the U.K. government. They are happening all the time and the outcomes are recommendation for government action.

Undoubtedly other governments run the same scenarios but unless there is an international scenario, of the sort run say by the EU or NATO etc.

And can you tell me why you consider the UK government to be incompetent, while no other country in the world has managed to control this pandemic? Or are they all just as incompetent?

Perhaps you believe that Labour would have been able to do what no other government in the world has accomplished. Wow, I wish I had your faith!

But White, they’re having to learn as they go along. Sometimes it’s the only way. There’s an interesting discussion between scientists on channel 4, who say this very thing.

I’m fed up with hearing about how badly the government has done. This is unprecedented, and I think they’ve done and are still doing...their best.

Civil servants, medical staff, scientists, including biological warfare, MOD staff.etc all take part in these events. All classified and all very important.

They plan with the advise given by the scientists. That is constantly taking place assuming all sorts of scenarios. In this case it was an assumed pandemic.

It is the absolute responsibility for government to run these scenarios and plan and prepare for the worst.

If they don’t do that they are abdicating their right to govern.

Only the U.K. government were warned ?

So how could they plan for a totally unknown Pandemic then?
People are already complaining that the pop up hospitals are under utilised, and I doubt that any planning could have helped with most of the world on lock down.
But I would welcome your thoughts on how the UK could have planned for something that the rest of the world also hadn’t planned for and is equally badly affected.

It is warning of a pandemic which is becoming more and more likely. Not just seasonal flu.

Flu changes every year so a jab would not offer protection against a new strain. I think all the government could contemplate was Brexit. The workings of the government basically stalled

They were warned of a Flu Pandemic, I’ve had Flu jabs, I would have assumed that I would be ok if the Government had warned me last year.
COVID isn’t the Flu and needs totally different medical equipment. I don’t see how they can have planned for an unknown virus.
