MaizieD Tue 28-Apr-20 11:02:08

Who needs to make a better job of what, Daisymae?

Not sniping, just don't quite understand your comment...

Daisymae Tue 28-Apr-20 10:28:29

In that case grandad they need to make a better job of it.

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 10:22:51

The UK didn’t get what they voted for but that’s FPTP for you.

The Tory voters shouldn’t be moaning though - they’re getting what they voted for.

Grandad1943 Tue 28-Apr-20 10:03:34

I will repeat for the benefit of all those moaning about this government, that is what people voted for in December and the previous three general elections.

Sometimes you get exactly what you asked for.

Lying hypocrites of politicians! Panorama last night was bad for my blood pressure.

trisher Tue 28-Apr-20 09:31:09

Maybe they secretly took up some of the offers of PPE the government failed to access! At a time when NHS managers were working with restricted budgets and desperately trying to keep things running they are now being blamed for the lack of PPE. Of course they sourced the cheapest products, money was being cut at every turn. Let's not forget that the government was pursuing a policy of cutting in order to privatise services. And let's also think of the future because the waiting list for non-essential operations is growing every day and from months may well be years. It will be NHS managers who will once again have to try and balance the budget and provide the best services. Let's hope at least they will be given more resources to do that. But it is a NATIONAL health service and not a local organisation which is managed by the government and they have the ultimate responsibility.

May7 Tue 28-Apr-20 09:29:56

and I'd also like to add whilst the vast majority of care homes in this country are privately run their residents have paid into the NHS most of their working lives and therefore should be protected in the same way.

In grrr

Hetty58 Tue 28-Apr-20 09:26:11

EllanVannin and Sharon103, totally off down their own little deluded track blaming hospital 'mis'management. It's victim-blaming, pure and simple.

Our government is (in theory, anyway) responsible for emergency planning and response. The buck stops there.

May7 Tue 28-Apr-20 09:25:30

If you work or have worked for the NHS you will understand how difficult it is and always was to whistleblow. With that in mind are some of you suggesting that that the people interviewed on Panorama were just making it up?
Oh and BTW I know of a large hospital and a few care homes that do not have enough of the correct PPE I and out of my own area

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 09:21:51

Not able to answer the question I see.

lemongrove Tue 28-Apr-20 09:20:40

They have been well organised for the start. Some hospitals have better managers than others.

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 09:15:02

Where are these managers getting their PPE from? Do they have some secret stash in a cupboard somewhere?

lemongrove Tue 28-Apr-20 09:10:37

Some hospitals have been better supplied with PPE because their managers have been better. The huge hospital where my DIL works as a nurse have had no shortages at all.

lemongrove Tue 28-Apr-20 09:08:54

It must be tiring being so permanently angry on every thread,
SirC and yes, the NHS has been well supplied with money.
Admit it please.....it’s the NHS managers who are at fault.

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 09:00:59

No - hospitals haven’t been very well supplied lemon, as well you know. Certain wards like ICU and HDU have been better supplied, but please don’t make stuff up for effect about whole hospitals being very well supplied.

And let’s not forget the other sectors, community teams and do on who still can’t get what they need.

lemongrove Tue 28-Apr-20 08:54:42

Same here with my DIL craftygranny her hospital has been well supplied from the very start.

sodapop Tue 28-Apr-20 08:54:37

I think Care Home staff have been let down in the most disgraceful way over the PPE supply. By their managers, by the owners of the homes and by the Government.
When this is over the CQC needs to take a long hard look at how some homes are run, staff need more training and improved wages. Owners and managers need to be more accountable. Well done to all those carers who have gone over and above to ensure the people in their care are supported.

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 08:53:45

ICU/HDU are only a tiny part of the jigsaw though.

I’m sure you’ve seen news reports about other wards and other sectors who are reporting shortages or inadequate PPE.

lemongrove Tue 28-Apr-20 08:53:25

EllanV and Sharon good for you for pointing out that it’s the job of NHS managers and not government who procure
Whatever the NHS needs.Government has supplied them with money....and plenty of it.
If an organisation like the Army had been running things we would be seeing a quite different picture.

CraftyGranny Tue 28-Apr-20 08:43:32

I'm confused. I spoke to my DiL last night. She is currently working on Covid HDU and said there are plenty of PPE kits there. ??

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 08:42:50

It’s democracy as we have it in the UK GEs - but more of the electorate did choose alternative political option and took a different route than didn’t.

No Tory voter should be ‘moaning’ though.

Grandad1943 Tue 28-Apr-20 08:37:04

The Tory Party have won the last four General Elections under the electoral system that Britain has, and that is all that matters

Parliament has the option to change that system at any time it chooses, but that option they have not taken up.

And that's democracy.

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 08:25:59

The Tories did not get an overall majority in the last general election - I think that ‘moaning’ was well vocalised but thwarted by FPTP.

Plus, Brexit...

Grandad1943 Tue 28-Apr-20 08:18:23

Some of us on this forum have advocated greater government spending in numerous sectors over many years. However, that was not what the electorate have voted for in the last decade, as austerity was the message they accepted.

It was not until March this year that this government decided to lay to rest the great God austerity and came up with a budget that could have been penned by John McDonald himself.

Sadly it will take time to turn around a decade of austerity, for increased spending has to be transformed into the minds those managing economic sectors, and that then has to be brought through into production.

Many of those that now moan have had an alternative political option on offer over the last ten years, but that route they decided not to take.
