In about 3-4 weeks time .

This idiot government is losing control.

Pantglas2 Tue 12-May-20 15:33:12

Lizkat one of the easiest ways of assessing your own personal risks is to check the number of confirmed cases in your county, the number of deaths due to the virus since it started and how many other deaths in that period.

In my county (pop. 117,000) we have 305 confirmed cases since end February, 35 are dead due to the virus which is only 11% of the total number of people who died in the county within the time period.

You can then assess how much you can lift your own personal lockdown according to the laws/rules wherever you live in the UK.

Callistemon Tue 12-May-20 15:31:10

maddyone quite.
DIL works in an English school, may be required to go back.
The DC attend Welsh schools which will not be open.
It's a mish-mash.

Callistemon Tue 12-May-20 15:27:56

Pantglas we await the roar of motorbikes, the swish of dozens of cyclists thinking they can come over from England but don't worry, our Chief Constable is ready for them.

maddyone Tue 12-May-20 15:21:21

ALANaV
Your post is ridiculous. You advocate there should have been no lockdown. It’s strange that you think you know better than almost every other country in the world, and all the scientists and medics.
Idiots rule okay!

Lizkat Tue 12-May-20 15:20:48

I wish someone...statistician,risk assessor or whoever, would just give us comparable facts...Your risk of dying in a plane crash compared with dying crossing the road and dying from covid. Then I could make up my own mind.

notanan2 Tue 12-May-20 15:18:40

I missed that. Where did Starmer argue that?

Where he said that BJ should TELL all industries when they should all open up. Rather than allow industries to open "as soon as possible"
adjustments in some workplace will take half an hour. In others: weeks

He wants BJ to TELL each sector exactly how to reopen safely. This is BS you cant apply the same measures to a small organic farm as to a big commercial battery farm

bj is allowing autonomy on the ground.

KS wants one size badly fits all micromanagement from central government.

"big centralised government" is a core labour value and KS is showing that he is not moderate on this

Callistemon Tue 12-May-20 15:18:00

MaizieD I am rather fed up with you putting words into my mouth that I did not say.

That is t ,east twice you have done that with your nasty comments and if you continue I will have to report you.

I have no idea what I have done to upset you but it appears to be personal because you make up vicious words and attribute them to me even though they are untrue.

Enough is enough.

Re sending children to school

Some don’t have the luxury of deciding not to send their children to school. My daughter and her husband are doctors, some of you may already know that. Where exactly is the choice for them? Their children have been attending school for three days a week since all this began. There was no choice. We weren’t allowed to look after them. On top of that, their two year old has had to start nursery suddenly, not the nursery he was due to start in September where his siblings attend school, because that one is closed, but a nursery found for them by the LA. Choice! There was no choice for them. They are GPs and aswell as phone consultations and video consultations, they see and examine real patients, who may be Covid19 positive but don’t know, and last but certainly not least, they go into care homes with Covid19 patients and give palliative care.

Choice is a luxury some do not have.

lizzypopbottle Tue 12-May-20 15:14:14

This is a novel (new, never seen before) virus. It wouldn't matter who was PM or which party was in power. The government would still be struggling to know what's best to do. Anyone can stand on a soap box and put the world to rights with rhetoric.

Bobdoesit Tue 12-May-20 15:13:27

Completely agree with your comment GrannyGravy13

Whitewavemark2 Tue 12-May-20 15:00:44

notanan I’m interested in you assertion that Starmer thinks the government should micromanage from above.

I missed that. Where did Starmer argue that?

notanan2 Tue 12-May-20 14:58:41

I think too many people want babysitting rather than having to act like sensible adults..

So so true.
And Keir Steimer clearly thinks that government should micromanage from above too and people shouldnt be returning to making any of their own decisions

Theoddbird Tue 12-May-20 14:52:24

Nannytrace Tue 12-May-20 14:29:50

I don’t think conspiracy theories help anyone.

Nannytrace Tue 12-May-20 14:26:47

I would have thought which ever government was in, they would have used the same scientific experts to plan the strategies. MP’s would have zero medical knowledge. After
Who ever is pm - they can only go on expert advice. Wouldnt the same Scientific individuals have
been consulted by whichever government was in power, Or are they partisan? Can you really blame the government? I’m not sure what the answer is.

Seefah Tue 12-May-20 14:26:36

What Bozzy says and what Bozzy does are two different things. He says what we want to hear, then does what Cummings tells him to and who is behind him ? Answers on a postcard please. My bet is Steve Bannon the guy who got Trump in.
I live in three countries and none felt as unsafe as UK. I’m not sure they want us to survive. With all the PHE, professors, Bozzy, etc we are only told to cover our face and wash our hands, what about zinc, selenium, Vit D, K2, 500 mg Vit C, Immun support, hot tea, iron, etc. Why so little advice. I put my mother (in her 80’s ) on this regime Feb 1st, and sure enough she got it, but mild. Thank God.
I feel like we’ve been left to our own devices and it’s like bingo.

Summerlove Tue 12-May-20 14:26:26

The lack of a clear across-the-board message certainly isn’t going to help. But there was always going to be another wave.

GagaJo Tue 12-May-20 14:21:14

1) I can't believe people think Johnson is running this show. He's a mouthpiece. That's all.

2) Cummings is a nasty piece of work who had herd immunity in mind all the time. WE are disposable to him as crumblies. Non productive units

3) Corbyn is LONG gone. I don't hear ANY lefties banging on about him but plenty of right-wingers do. Why are some of you obsessed? Closet Corbynistas?

Sparklefizz Tue 12-May-20 14:17:59

LuckyFour I have done exactly the same except that my children live too far away to help out, but my neighbours have been great, and I have now got Sainsbury's slots.

I completely agree with your comments.

LuckyFour Tue 12-May-20 14:14:27

If people are out in numbers in Brighton and not being careful you can't actually blame the government for that. My DH and I have been at home for two months and our daughter has been bringing in our food. We have no health problems but we are in our 70s. I have listened to all that is being said by Boris and Matt Hancock and will continue to stay at home so as not to interfere with those who have to go out. I may be unique here but I think the government are doing their best and it's so easy to say they should have done this or that. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

lemongrove Tue 12-May-20 13:58:10

The liveliness of a geography teacher.....haha I like it.?
Leather patches on their tweed jackets, sandals in Summer and a boring droning voice.

quizqueen Tue 12-May-20 13:56:46

If anyone gets the flu, they will survive or die; that is a fact. The lockdown wasn't to stop people dying, it was to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed with people dying in hospital. No worries, there are over 7 billions on the planet to replace us.

Bluecat Tue 12-May-20 13:49:16

For a start, I doubt that Labour would have gone for the herd immunity idea. Only someone like Dominic Cummings would say, "If some pensioners die, so be it", though I suspect that there are others in government who share those sentiments.

I also doubt that Labour would have given such a vague "back to work" order without any planning of how the workers were going to get there - social distancing on public transport? - or if their safety could be protected in the workplace.

And any Labour MP who regarded working people and those on benefits with the contempt of Ian Duncan Smith and co would be ashamed. At least, I hope they would be.

And if we're bringing Jeremy Corbyn into the discussion, I would rather be led by a matter of fact person than a blusterer. Jeremy has all the liveliness of a geography teacher whereas Boris is a poor man's Churchill.

MazieD

85% by selling gilts and bills mainly to financial institutions which are a loan tt the government. 10% from NS&I - all repayable. A Google search will give you more information
