I’ve been told by
a) someone who works in ICU they’ve been told for 2nd wave in July and
b) someone who works for funeral director they’ve been told to prepare for mass of deaths in August

I’m taking responsibility for my own safety and ignoring govt. I’m staying home.

Unfortunately the thousands of protesters in multiple locations throughout the UK do not give a flying fig about Covid-19 they are just intent on harassing members of the Police Force who had absolutely nothing to do with the murder of George Floyd!

They will be the cause of a second wave, not the majority of the general public who abide by the guidelines and take personal responsibility.

It feels like the world is going crazy, with the help of the press.

You might be right WWM2 but we can’t go on like this for ever!!
This crisis is unprecedented, and sad as it is we have to make steps forward - which possibly rebound to steps back!
Getting through this is experimental, I agree it’s horrendous because we’ve never walked this path before.
It really is not a political issue and should not be made into one - in my humble opinion!

The daily figures on Govt Briefings do not show the number of swab tests which slip through the 48 hour window deadline (as swab would expire). I did swab at 7.45am yesterday, courier collected at 10.15am. I asked what time it would get to Lab, he said maybe Sunday or Monday. If my test is not done by latest 7.45am Monday 1st June, then it will be null and void. Apparently, according to Covid Helpline Advisor, there is no way of proving the time it was tested!

Returning to the OP - this graph of deaths from the virus shows regular rises and falls in waves. I think I've seen a similar graph for new cases.

An MP is self isolating after being in Parliament the other day. Wonder how many more will come down with it. Of course, the PP is now, for a while, immune so he’s ok.

Dispatches (Channel 4, 9 pm today) was very interesting. It does look likely that we'll have many more infections and deaths.

I think that the likelihood of a large second wave is quite remote. What seems more likely is regional hotspots.
I contribute to the Covid 19 symptom tracker project every day and the interactive map changes all the time and shows hotspots which can reduce remarkably rapidly.
The daftness of the huge crowds at the protests in London is a problem the the government and scientists hadn't expected.

Looking at the crowds in London today, if the virus is still around then another rise in numbers is very possible.

So, after the governments victory forcing MPs back to parliament, the very day they returned, we have the dubious knowledge that Sharma has tested positive for the virus. The country was able to watch as he suffered its first affects in the HoC yesterday.

What? That would mean he had an instant infection and suffered immediately? He must have been incubating the virus having caught it days ago. The social distancing at Westminster should protect the other MPs and staff from catching it from him.

Whitewavemark2. My post was in exasperation at yet another panic inducing thread such as this. It opened on 10th May predicting a second wave. The trend is still down. The tone of this thread is very much as though it takes satisfaction from impending doom. If you read the postings of for example Professor Karl Sikora you will find a very different and enlightening approach to what is happening.
We are definitely not out of the woods yet but we're not all doomed either.
As to Alok Sharma, he seems an effective politician and good at his job. Is he black? I hadn't particularly noticed as I see people not their colour.

This is not panic inducing that is nonsense. It is initially an opinion, backed by some evedince of concern. Instead of mindless panic I would expect if people genuinely think that there is going to be a second wave, and in my opinion that was indicated in yesterday’s press briefing, then sensible people will continue to behave as they have done over the past couple of months, and it may possibly encourage others who are considering breaking the rules to do the same.

Can anyone explain to me why, given the fact that many other countries check people’s temperatures before they’re allowed to enter a supermarket, in this country nobody thought to do that with all MP.’s entering parliament?

The decisions made are like trying to keep those marbles in place.Every decision is like pulling a straw out. I have to agree with you, @Jane10, about apparent satisfaction at impending doom. It sometimes seems that some GNers would actively welcome a 2nd wave, not because of any grisly death-wish for other people, but purely to
prove triumphantly how rubbish Boris/the government/the Tories generally, have been at handling the virus.
