In about 3-4 weeks time .

This idiot government is losing control.

The chlorine isn't really the issue

This link points out that the use of chlorine can make up for bad husbandry

www.rspcaassured.org.uk/news/chlorinated-chicken/The EU does allow chlorinated salad foods

That won't work if nobody buys it!

Whitewave I see today that you were correct in your prediction and there has been a rise in cases of Covid-19 after lockdown relaxation and that the R rate has increased. A lesson learned or not? And now - maybe a bit too late as it seems everything is a bit too late - we do need to wear masks! And cases are emerging in schools that have opened. Glad I am in Scotland but also feeling more anxious now as this seems to be not following usual virus outcomes. My DM who is housebound has now requested masks and have bought some from M&S as who knows where this is going at least she will be protected if we need to go to GP or anywhere. Beginning to question this virus following scientific analysis because of the way it attacks the cells. Not a normal route for a virus to attack respiratory, immune cells and epithelial cells in blood vessels causing clots, strokes and damage to kidney and heart. Does anyone else think this is strange?

Callistemon Fri 05-Jun-20 23:23:36

Cold and influenza viruses attack respiratory cells; other viruses attack other cells of the body Elaine1.
They need a host cell and that could vary according to the type. They can then reproduce.
Childhood diseases such as measles, mumps, chickenpox are all caused by viruses.
Dengue fever, the Zika virus are spread by mosquitoes.

There is so much more to learn about viruses and what their effects may be on the human body, short or long term.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 06-Jun-20 08:20:40

The virus is beginning to spread again.

The north west and south west are seeing the biggest spread at the moment.

Lockdown should never have been eased.

What a shambles

MayBee70 Sat 06-Jun-20 09:31:02

True: and of all the times to have mass protests everywhere. It’s as if people want to die or infect others.

R value in the SW is said to be around 1 which means it could be higher.

WOODMOUSE49 Sat 06-Jun-20 10:14:54

Whitewavemark2

The R (infection rate) here (I live in Cornwall) of 1.0 doesn't mean it has spread. The increase to 0.9 was due to an outbreak at Weston super mare hospital over a week ago,. Big increase in positive tests from patients and staff. Hopes are it didn't spread outside. Hospital closed but about to reopen.

I'm fearful that the south west will suffer with the impact of the easing of lockdown, particularly the amount of travel people are doing (pleasure and seeing families etc.)

Well looks like your prediction is about to be proved WW2.

The SW and NW already on the up.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 06-Jun-20 11:28:35

It is easy to predict.

We have a useless and clueless right wing populist government.

Until the voters understand how populism works we will continue from one crises to another always finding someone else to blame.

Furret Sat 06-Jun-20 11:49:05

As you say it’s not rocket science - simple logic. I would be delighted if we could conquer this virus as they might have done in NZ but I’m constantly aghast at the way we are being lied to and manipulated.

Apparently we elected this shower of idiots though and must lie down and surrender ourselves to our fate - or so someone implied on another thread.

craftyone Sat 06-Jun-20 11:53:51

it is the people who will generate the big second wave. They cannot see the virus so of course it will never get them or those they are in contact with. It will happen mid july, once the R builds up after all the social inter-action, look at what is happening in the big cities this weekend. Idiots, they can only blame themselves

Furret Sat 06-Jun-20 11:56:50

And how about those forced back to work without proper protection and having to travel on public transport but until now?

I take your point crafty but if you’ve been working all week, no protection, no social distancing then I can see why some think it’s ok to continue like that in their free time.

Purplepixie Sat 06-Jun-20 11:58:23

When I watch TV I feel like I have just wasted 14 weeks of my life by staying as all these people go out as if nothing has happened. I think the second wave will be more deadly than the first and I hope I am wrong. My eldest DS has never stayed in!!! I am annoyed with him and he knows it.

Jane10 Sat 06-Jun-20 12:00:16

The populist media are to blame for a lot of the headless chickening going on. They fixate on a negative aspect and run with that without looking at alternative viewpoints or, crucially, research. Of course bad news sells papers or attracts viewers.

Jane10 Sat 06-Jun-20 12:01:24

Personal responsibility is important too. I wish more people considered that especially before venturing out into large crowds.

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 12:38:35

Unfortunately, there will always be irresponsible and selfish people, but I don't see why they should be allowed to affect everybody else. That's why we have laws, which need to be enforced.

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 12:39:56

I don't think the populist media has been responsible for the poor messaging, lack of testing and tracing or lack of PPE. No amount of positivity stops a virus.

Jane10 Sat 06-Jun-20 13:10:58

The populist media hypes up the public sense of panic and powerlessness leading to apathy and inertia. Hence people thinking they might as well go out and join a huge crowd in a march or party in a park.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 06-Jun-20 13:25:19

I hope the rain keeps the protesters at home this weekend.

Several Government ministers have reminded people that gatherings of six or more are not permitted in England.

I was deeply disappointed in Cressida Dicks statement that they did not enforce the law/guidelines during the last demonstrations due to maybe instigating civil unrest

Rosalyn69 Sat 06-Jun-20 13:25:44

So how long should the country remain in lock down? Until there are no new cases at all? Just asking.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 06-Jun-20 13:33:58

Personally Rosalyn69 I think the gradual easing of lockdown is the correct thing to do. If and when there are regional flare ups then those regions should have to take extra precautions.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 06-Jun-20 13:48:09

jane I think you mean popular media. They can of course support a populist government, but the two concepts are quite different.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 06-Jun-20 13:51:59

Unfortunately the rain has not stopped the idiotsprotesters in London they have already defaced Winston Churchills statue on what is the 76th Anniversary of the beach landings on Normandy.

Oopsminty Sat 06-Jun-20 13:55:43

I heard some expert on TV the other day talking about the R value. He was pointing out that it was vague and to only rely on this wasn't the way we should react.

Apologies for the clumsy way that's written! Can't think straight

However I have found this rather interesting article which says similar
