Still Clapping?

Do you still go out on Thursday nights to clap for everyone? I was chatting to someone I know while we were queueing at Tesco (2 metres apart) this morning, and we agreed that there are far fewer people doing so in our little town.

Is it because the restrictions have eased, and we are able to venture out so much more, and not feel so isolated maybe? Or are we just bored with doing it now, and not see the relevance as the virus is hopefully diminishing?

DH and I go out at 8, but just wonder how many others do.

If it is a penny more on income tax, those who earn more pay more.

We are still clapping in my neighborhood, just a few of us.
I shall continue as long as it goes on.

MissAdventure Sat 23-May-20 10:07:17

Or, just don't do it.
It's fine either way, surely?

I believe the lady who suggested this clapping ,has now suggested the last clap will be next week on the 10 th week
My daughter has done this every week,, but refused last week as one of her neighbours and her mother both work for the NhS and have regular visitors, and a couple of weeks ago the daughter caught corona, but still they have many visitors, she said it's like Picadilly circus, and
One of out hospital Drs died last week, and these people could be spreading it everywhere angry
Some of those visiting visit my next door neighbours too

We did it religiously from the beginning and will do the last clapping on Thursday as the woman who started it suggested.

I did it to begin with but have stopped since it became politicised - it’s been hijacked by politicians, celebrities and the media and is nothing whatever to do with showing appreciation anymore. Several NHS workers have asked for it to stop as it just lets the government off the hook for the shameful errors they have made and the insults they still plan to make. So no I don’t clap anymore and most around me have stopped too

Maybe we could gather outside and give a collective "boooooooo!" for the liars in charge, now.

I'd be out like a shot for that.

Last week we clapped for the bin men. This week will be the last time so we’ll make it a good one. A shame really as most of our neighbours are shielding or self-isolating and its the only time we got to socialise. Still, we’re all starting to go out anyway now, so its nice to know them at last and chat.

Perhaps the first Thursday in June will now be Clap Day! grin

This is truly inspired grin

Someone is suggesting Tuesday as "Boo for Boris" day! Sounds good to me!

maddyone Mon 25-May-20 23:26:33

Why am I not surprised trisher?

MissAdventure Mon 25-May-20 23:28:37

What's the alternative?
We just accept being treated like fools?

Calendargirl Thu 28-May-20 19:40:28

So are you treating tonight as the last clap?

I think I am.

Elliegran Thu 28-May-20 19:56:23

I think we will make it our last clap this week. It is nice though to chat to neighbours who are shielding.
We will do a hurray for Boris don't think anyone round here will be booing they are all saying how bias the media is.

MissAdventure Thu 28-May-20 19:59:34

I won't be going out to clap.
I'd rather gouge my eyes out than get caught up in a cheer for boris.

Hellsbelles Thu 28-May-20 20:03:23

I always do but was in the shower when I heard tonight's so I joined in whilst in the bathroom !

Doodledog Thu 28-May-20 20:17:13

It seemed much quieter here tonight.

I was indoors, but have heard the noise on previous Thursdays. This time I heard the church bells, and a faint sound of clapping, but no honking horns and vuvuzelas or the like, which were sounding as it all got more competitive.

I looked out of the window, and the people opposite were there - I may have just chosen an opportune moment, but they were craning their necks to see to the top and bottom of the street so that they could check on who had come out. I was in two minds, as this was the last one, but I'm pleased I didn't do it.

Iam64 Thu 28-May-20 20:23:58

\We're on a long main road, almost every house out clapping and waving to each other tonight, all the cars driving along pipping horns and waving.

B9exchange Thu 28-May-20 20:26:15

The lady who initiated it asked that tonight be the last one, she didn't want it getting political, or just fading away, so tonight was our last one.

But we might step out, glass in hand, for a neighbourly catch up same time next week!

nanaK54 Thu 28-May-20 20:30:15

Lots of clapping, bells ringing etc here as there has been every week.
I expect that I will still clap next week, guess I might be on my own though
