The only way it could be eradicated in the UK permanently would be to have our borders closed indefinitely.

No planes, ferries, trains arriving from abroad turning back anyone trying to gain entry into the UK.

New Zealand opened their borders and two cases have now been diagnosed (UK Nationals) they are now in the process of trying to trace a plane full of people, including stopovers and plane changes.

If anyone has an alternative solution I am sure that SAGE would appreciate your input.

I did actually put together quite a long post with suggestions a few pages back and you either ignored it or disapproved.

As I'm sure you're aware anyway, teachers are not ever allowed to play a part in the decision making process. We enact the decisions, we're not allowed to make them. Actively discouraged by management, the media, the government.

Wasnt there a comedy programme like this where everything was in speech marks. Its ringing a bell.

Schools have been open throughout all school holidays so far since this started to provide for needs of the keyworker children.

GagaJo, you work in the education sector so it should be you and people such as you that are coming forward with the innovation to resolve the Covid-19 crisis in education.

However, what all in this nation are witnessing is negativity and a complete lack of any determination by those in the "Education Establishment" to overcome that crisis.

Teaching assistants, who are paid a pittance anyway, aren't usually paid for school holidays.

There is an outbreak in Switzerland. Nearish to where I am. They've contact traced, quarantined and tested. Hopefully it's under control. Same in Beijing where they have another outbreak.

GagaJo, in regard to your post @19:52 today, at the age of seventy seven I am still fully engaged with our Business. Indeed, we all worked in the office until 9pm last night resolving Covid-19 safety issues in various workplaces. That was the reason we all decided to call it a day at around 4:45pm today.

So, I will most certainly not be volunteering to work for any school especially when there should be enough "highly learned" people in the education establishment to resolve the issues of bringing ALL children back into education prior to September.

Or could it be that the "establishment" is now only interested in taking their five or six weeks summer holiday, and in that just forget the education of the children????

I do think the salient point that everyone is missing is that Covid-19 is here to stay.

Until such time there is a credible vaccine we have to learn to live with it.

The scientists/epidemiologists have released their preliminary paper on what groups should be vaccinated first......it is frontline NHS workers and over 50’s.

So should schools be closed until teachers and pupils are vaccinated?

Presumably they will receive their lunches from the outsourced companies, either as ingredients or in vouchers.

The article doesn't state how many children and adults have been placed in quarantine, but one of the schools has sent 350 children home. Potentially, there are hundreds of people affected by just a handful of infections. Unless those children are completely isolated at home, there is a risk that they could infect vulnerable relatives, some of whom could die.

Maybe some people will actually wake up to reality! (sigh)

Gagajo Schools aren't serving school dinners anyway. Pupils have been told to bring their own food.

After being open for a week, a number of schools in Germany have had to close, as there have been infections. This has meant that all the pupils, staff and families of the pupil and staff have had to go into 14 days quarantine, involving hundreds of people. It's compulsory for all to wear masks, but pupils and staff were still infected.

Beautiful place Galaxy. I've been in 2 Northumberland schools. Very, very deprived area (thank you Thatcher) but wonderful children. Even the 'challenging' students were mostly good people, just found school a struggle.

Great idea! Would also avoid the need for a huge crowd in the dining hall at lunchtime. Free school meals children could be given a packed lunch OR a lunch voucher.
