What is the matter with everyone why can’t children who are at very little risk of coronavirus not go back to school.
Surely it would be better for everyone those that don’t want to be in contact can self isolate. I am fortunate that my grandson is in yr 6 so has gone back but I feel desperate for all the others and those parents who can’t work with no childcare. I feel we are bringing up a generation who will be scared of everything Sorry for the rant but don’t think I’ve ever felt so strongly about anything Show me a March and I’ll be there!

Just a suggestion but a nieghbour ighbour ghbour, a retired teacher, told me that during WW2 50% of a class went to school in the morning and the other 50% in the afternoon. At least every child was at school every day and no extra teachers were required. Each group was set homework to do in the remaining 50% of their school day.
Seems doable to me

Great idea! Would also avoid the need for a huge crowd in the dining hall at lunchtime. Free school meals children could be given a packed lunch OR a lunch voucher.

Beautiful place Galaxy. I've been in 2 Northumberland schools. Very, very deprived area (thank you Thatcher) but wonderful children. Even the 'challenging' students were mostly good people, just found school a struggle.

After being open for a week, a number of schools in Germany have had to close, as there have been infections. This has meant that all the pupils, staff and families of the pupil and staff have had to go into 14 days quarantine, involving hundreds of people. It's compulsory for all to wear masks, but pupils and staff were still infected.

Sorry, I haven't got time to translate it all.

Gagajo Schools aren't serving school dinners anyway. Pupils have been told to bring their own food.

GagaJo Thu 18-Jun-20 20:05:23

Yes, Growstuff. I read today that the virus can pass through the mask of the infected person AND the mask of the person being infected.

Hoping fervently my student tests negative. Her boyfriend has also been tested and HE is negative.

PS. Most schools I know now use a digital payment system. FSM children are credited with a certain amount, so nobody knows which are the FSM children.

GagaJo Thu 18-Jun-20 20:05:49

What about Free School Meals students?

growstuff Thu 18-Jun-20 20:09:06

The article doesn't state how many children and adults have been placed in quarantine, but one of the schools has sent 350 children home. Potentially, there are hundreds of people affected by just a handful of infections. Unless those children are completely isolated at home, there is a risk that they could infect vulnerable relatives, some of whom could die.

Maybe some people will actually wake up to reality! (sigh)

Presumably they will receive their lunches from the outsourced companies, either as ingredients or in vouchers.

I do think the salient point that everyone is missing is that Covid-19 is here to stay.

Until such time there is a credible vaccine we have to learn to live with it.

The scientists/epidemiologists have released their preliminary paper on what groups should be vaccinated first......it is frontline NHS workers and over 50’s.

So should schools be closed until teachers and pupils are vaccinated?

GagaJo, in regard to your post @19:52 today, at the age of seventy seven I am still fully engaged with our Business. Indeed, we all worked in the office until 9pm last night resolving Covid-19 safety issues in various workplaces. That was the reason we all decided to call it a day at around 4:45pm today.

So, I will most certainly not be volunteering to work for any school especially when there should be enough "highly learned" people in the education establishment to resolve the issues of bringing ALL children back into education prior to September.

Or could it be that the "establishment" is now only interested in taking their five or six weeks summer holiday, and in that just forget the education of the children????

Yet another older person who wants to dictate to others what to do while not being prepared to be part of the solution.

As I said in the other thread, if this was war, many, many retired people would chip in and help. Not with this situation it seems.

growstuff Thu 18-Jun-20 20:15:30

But it doesn't need to be here to stay - at least not so widespread as it is now. Undoubtedly, there will be flare ups, but an effective lockdown policy and test/trace system could almost eradicate it. The public really does seem to have been "sold" the idea of herd immunity, which is not necessary.

growstuff Thu 18-Jun-20 20:16:13

Exactly Gagajo. Stuck in a groove too!

Galaxy Thu 18-Jun-20 20:16:54

Why do you use establishment like that its really weird. Do you talk about the health establishment or the social care establishment.

growstuff Thu 18-Jun-20 20:17:08

My guess is that somebody had a bad experience of school. Who knows?

Galaxy Thu 18-Jun-20 20:18:45

Will people stop encouraging grandad to work in a school shock

GagaJo Thu 18-Jun-20 20:19:03

There is an outbreak in Switzerland. Nearish to where I am. They've contact traced, quarantined and tested. Hopefully it's under control. Same in Beijing where they have another outbreak.

GagaJo Thu 18-Jun-20 20:19:43

Hahaha Galaxy. Not IN a school. Help with planning. In the same way some schools out source timetabling.

growstuff Thu 18-Jun-20 20:22:18

Teaching assistants, who are paid a pittance anyway, aren't usually paid for school holidays.

GagaJo, you work in the education sector so it should be you and people such as you that are coming forward with the innovation to resolve the Covid-19 crisis in education.

However, what all in this nation are witnessing is negativity and a complete lack of any determination by those in the "Education Establishment" to overcome that crisis.

Galaxy Thu 18-Jun-20 20:25:33

Schools have been open throughout all school holidays so far since this started to provide for needs of the keyworker children.

Galaxy Thu 18-Jun-20 20:27:22

Wasnt there a comedy programme like this where everything was in speech marks. Its ringing a bell.
