So so pleased to hear that the Queen will be knighting Captain Tom herself .He deserves the best and she truly is whether you are a Royalist or not . Keep safe Your Majesty , your country needs you ?

Oopsminty, yes, I am still bothered by what Charles, Camilla and Diana did to the children they were responsible for. Camilla and Charles were also much older than Diana who was obviously a vulnerable, mixed-up teenager and should have known better. I don't want 2 people like them being my King and Queen. I am at heart a Royalist, feel very much that the trade off for their privilege versus the goldfish bowl life works more for the country than against and wish that Charles hadn't behaved so badly whilst being a role model. His only saving grace is his ecological drive.

As for Sir Tom, there is a true gentleman. I was tickled at his coyness about the conversation he had with the Queen and I find his deprecation of what he has achieved absolutely heart warming. He is a great role model of family man, gentleman and charity.

I love the fact that Beatrice has had a small intimate wedding. I think it shows that the marriage was more important to her than the pomp and pageantry her sister seemed to desire. I wish her and her husband the best wishes for the future.

My youngest daughter met the Queen mother, when she sang with her school choir in Harrogate a few years back, she said she was a nice lady. (My DD is almost 28 now so it may have been one of her last few official engagements?)

And I should add not include the reworking of the monarchy chat re Charles and Camilla - completely different subjects. Just doesn’t come into this post.

Most posts digress into something else. Most women, and a few men, jump from one subject to another.

I often look at the final page of a post, and think I am looking at the wrong OP.

Well said!

Never said I was speaking for everyone , just my opinion.
She has shown commitment to her role, country and commonwealth, it is a shame she can’t tell our politicians what to do as she knows far more than most of them.
Her generation were a rare breed ,my parents were the same age .
Long may she reign ???

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 12:56:34

Thinking of moral values, Camilla had an affair with Charles,
Diana ? Too many affairs to list

A very hard act to follow indeed pamdixon, and I'm not convinced Prince Charles is worthy of it tbh...hmm

Yes he is. He knows the job inside out and over the years has become as familiar as a cuddly old uncle. We know what we'll get with Charles.

At the start of her reign the Queen was cold and remote because that was how she had been taught to reign. It was years before she became regarded as a warm and sympathetic monarch.

To say Charles is not worthy is grossly unfair.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 12:51:36

Becoming Queen so young meant she had little time with her
small children.

Moral values ? The younger generation don’t divorce, don’t have affairs ?

Nannan2 Sun 19-Jul-20 12:35:53

I don't think William's age would prevent him doing a good job, its served the Queen well enough to take over so young.smile

Nannan2 Sun 19-Jul-20 12:33:11

Still not a Royalist either. But the queen does a good job, as do the younger Royals- especially for charity, and Prince Harry used to do a do a good job too, shame he left reallyhmm i hope he keeps up the good charity work he believes in though.

Oopsminty Sun 19-Jul-20 12:21:02

.i guess it depends on what your moral values are

Haha, that made me laugh

No, William would not want to become King before his time, poor thing.

Let Charles do his bit when the time comes. I'm sure he'll fine. He has many opinions that suit society today. And with Camilla by his side I'm sure they will be excellent.

I doubt any of them will be as popular as the Queen though

To see the Queen is one of the things on my bucket list. I have always been working when she has visited my part of the country and I don't visit London. Maybe one day !!!
I am not intending to try to copy Sir Tom. He has my great admiration. Congratulations to him

25Avalon Sun 19-Jul-20 12:16:33

Annepl rats my dh was right! Agree I was wrong. I have no problem with being corrected.

Nannan2 Sun 19-Jul-20 12:13:05

Yes some of us are 'still bothered' oopsminty.i guess it depends on what your moral values arehmm....and you do all know that a 'consort' used to not always be used in a good term righthmm...William and Kate would make a wonderful much better King& Queen anyway- younger, fresher, better ideas with a much more modern outlook that, going forward, our younger generation needs.smile

Tweedle24 Sun 19-Jul-20 12:02:04

Whatever our opinions, for or against, as the wife of the king, Camilla would be Queen Consort. Whether she chooses to use the title is another matter.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 12:01:15

Usually there is someone standing next to the Queen to take
the sword, this couldn’t be because of the 2 metre distancing

pamdixon Sun 19-Jul-20 11:57:39

I haven't read all the posts and apologies if I am repeating what someone else said But did any of you see the video clip of the Queen advancing on Captain Tom with her sword before she knighted him The sword is very long, and if she'd tripped she'd have stabbed him!!! As soon as the 'deed' was done one of the flunkies rushed forward and grabbed the sword from the Queen.
I think she's a real star She's been wonderful lately, and says all the right things to the nation. A very hard act to follow.

Nannan2 Sun 19-Jul-20 11:52:47

Congratulations to Princess Beatrice and her new husband too! Lovely couple, also deserving of her special day.without the pomp& circumstance of the usual circus the Royal weddings are, but i doubt she would want that anyway hmm flowers

Oopsminty Sun 19-Jul-20 11:41:12

Goodness me, are people still bothered about Camilla?

I think she's wonderful. They're a perfect match. They love Jack Russell's. They are super together.

As for the Queen and Sir Tom. Lovely bright news in a somewhat gloomy time. Ditto with the wedding.

Nannan2 Sun 19-Jul-20 11:40:27

Well done sir Tom- (has a better ring to it for him than Tom Jones grin ) i was one those who backed his recommendation for Knighthood- he's a wonderful inspiration to us all. ???

Nannan2 Sun 19-Jul-20 11:34:57

Bellanonna- i don't think same either- (to me she will always be the interloper in his marriage) i don't even know why the Royal family would think 'we, the people' would accept her as our queen, and as for Prince Charles? Well when he had a young attractive wife at the time- what on earth was he thinking?! Also has Camilla no dignity? Surely anyone would have 'bowed out gracefully' upon his engagement/ subsequent marriage- Charles should be made to abdicate as Camilla was a divorced woman when they married, or have they done away with all the old traditional rules now?Well done to Sir Tom he is indeed very deserving of this knighthood, ?? much more than most they dish them out to at new years honours (sometimes you think theyre scraping bottom of the barrel to just to keep it goinghmm)

langelei Sun 19-Jul-20 11:31:40

Sorry everyone but I really thought this post was a congratulatory one for Sir Tom and NOT one of complaints on correct grammar and continual sniping at each other. For goodness sake read the post title and be adults! ?
