So so pleased to hear that the Queen will be knighting Captain Tom herself .He deserves the best and she truly is whether you are a Royalist or not . Keep safe Your Majesty , your country needs you ?

I don't think Sir Tom would have seen this as snubbing the queen. He and his family had other arrangements and HM had told him that her grand-daughter Beatrix had just got married so he may have thought that she would want to spend time with her family.

annepl we know what the media and Diana told us, and many choose to believe Diana the victim, Charles the evil
husband and Camilla the wicked witch .

annep1 Sat 18-Jul-20 14:32:00

Anniebach we all know Charles didn't treat Diana right and really wanted Camilla. He should never have married Diana.

The Queen Mother was queen consort to King George VI. So I guess Camilla will be queen consort to Charles. I don't believe any talks of her being only 'princess consort' just like when Charles and Diana were never going to divorce only separate, Charles was never going to marry Camilla, etc etc.

The Queen Mum was the Elizabeth I meant - obviously not queen in her own right. She was of aristocratic lineage - the Earls of Strathmore - but not of royal birth.

Jane10 Sat 18-Jul-20 13:44:37

Also they were Royal by birth.
I was struck by how happy the Queen looked when talking to Sir Tom. Wonderfully discreet if him to refuse to discuss what she'd said to him. An old fashioned true gent.

BlueSky Sat 18-Jul-20 13:28:04

Anno Alexandra and Mary were queen consorts, Elizabeth queen in her own right.

annodomini Sat 18-Jul-20 13:12:32

If Queens Alexandra, Mary and Elizabeth had the title, why should Catherine not also be Queen?

BlueSky Sat 18-Jul-20 12:42:12

Hear hear NannyDee! ? Also shouldn't this thread have been under Chat?

NannyDee Sat 18-Jul-20 12:39:54

Also, re the statue thread, surely if anyone one should have a statue it is Captain Sir Tom.

BlueSky Sat 18-Jul-20 12:26:55

Sarahellen Catherine too will only be Queen Consort, not Queen! Anyway you can't compare any of them to Her Majesty, apart from Elizabeth I and Victoria!

Anniebach Sat 18-Jul-20 12:26:24

It took 4, 2 couples in 2 marriages

annep1 Sat 18-Jul-20 12:25:08

I'm not a royalist but I do think they make a good couple.

annep1 Sat 18-Jul-20 12:23:12

Oh fgs...^she didn't take Diana's husband^
It takes two.

Ellianne Sat 18-Jul-20 12:16:11

I was amused to read that Sir Tom politely declned the Queens invitation to tea, saying he and his family had made other plans.

Surely not! That doesn't sound right to me.

EllanVannin Sat 18-Jul-20 12:07:33

Annie I agree with you, Camilla is a natural and I'm so pleased for her and Prince Charles that they both found each other which matters a lot at their time of life. They're a brilliant match/ couple and a good asset to the Royal family.

Anniebach Sat 18-Jul-20 12:04:28

She didn’t take Diana’s husband, Diana died a single woman .

EllanVannin Sat 18-Jul-20 12:02:15

I thought the whole spectacle was lovely, and what a great family old Tom has got. If only everyone was like that the world would be a lovely and better place. We can dream.

sarahellenwhitney Sat 18-Jul-20 11:58:25

Camilla is what Charles wanted and he got her but I do not want to see her take not only Diana's husband but what should have been Diana's rightful title. Our next and only true queen after Elizabeth will be Catherine .Hope I live to see that take place.

Bravo Sir Tom!

Ellianne Sat 18-Jul-20 08:54:21

I thought it was lovely for Sir Tom's family, especially the grandchildren, to be present with the Queen.
I hope this is the return of small duties for the Queen. She has such a strong sense of duty and will want to be seen.
Beatrice was right to have a quiet wedding. I hope they will be very happy.

25Avalon Sat 18-Jul-20 08:48:56

Small wedding cos of Covid but bet she was glad it was small because of her stupid father. Hope she has a happy marriage.

Sir Tom has been a loyal subject all his live and modestly never expected a reward. So glad it happened for him. I thought it was lovely and typical that he would not reveal what the Queen said to him. A true and parfait knight.

timetogo2016 Sat 18-Jul-20 08:39:42

It was lovely to see the Queen knight Sir Tom and hearing that Beatrice had her wedding day.
I do wonder though if it was a small wedding because of her stupid father , i hope not.

merlotgran

I've just watched the video of the Queen knighting Sir Tom.

She's a bit unsteady on her feet now and the way she was brandishing the sword he's lucky she didn't have his eye out!! shock shock grin

Or behead him! Brave man ?
