So so pleased to hear that the Queen will be knighting Captain Tom herself .He deserves the best and she truly is whether you are a Royalist or not . Keep safe Your Majesty , your country needs you ?

Callistemon Fri 24-Jul-20 10:32:29

I asked (nicely) because I thought the same MawBroon, but got no response from GNHQ.

Calendargirl Fri 24-Jul-20 06:35:30

I don’t think some bother looking at the thread titles MawB, judging certain posts.

Was not referring to this one, BTW.

MawB Fri 24-Jul-20 06:27:58

Could GNHQ please move this thread to another forum?
It’s under “Coronavirus” and entitled “Sir Tom” so perhaps unreasonably I thought it might be about either of them hmm
Silly Maw

The Queen attended the church wedding of Prince Harry to a divorced woman.
Absolutely no comment.

Joplin Fri 24-Jul-20 04:17:29

He as engaged & they had a son, now 4, who was "best man" at the wedding. So Beatrice is a stepmother. Times are certainly changing.

GillT57 Tue 21-Jul-20 11:52:23

My apologies, I thought he had been married before.

SueDonim Mon 20-Jul-20 18:36:53

He’s never been married so isn’t a divorcee.

Calendargirl Mon 20-Jul-20 17:58:52

Is Edo actually a divorcee, his son is from a previous relationship, but not sure if he has ever been married before GillT57?

GillT57 Mon 20-Jul-20 16:31:53

Agreed Anniebach the plotting and scheming was most unedifying and it didn't work out very well. In my opinion, Camilla has acted with dignity and tact and has not pushed herself forward and if William and Harry are happy with her as a stepmother as they seem to be, then that is fine by me. I do wonder about those on here getting all coy and prim about divorced people......how do you square that with the adulterer in chief moving his pregnant mistress into 10 Downing Street? What do you think about Beatrice marrying a divorced man and the Queen as head of the Church of England attending the wedding?

annep1 Mon 20-Jul-20 15:24:20

Very interesting Anniebach.
Thankfully, times are changing.

Anniebach Mon 20-Jul-20 12:14:17

Sorry don’t know her age then, under 14 , it was when the Spencer’s were living at Sandringham.

Yes they had a relationship when younger , just as Anne did with Andrew Parker Bowles, I think I said Andrew was Godfather to Zara, I was trying to explain how they were part
of a ‘country set’, hence they had a close friendship when they
had a relationship, when Camilla married Andrew and when
their marriage broke down. Rather Downton Abbey ?.

I defend Charles because I honestly believe he too was a victim . He had Mountbatten plotting , Lady Fermoy , the Queen Mother and Johnnie Spencer plotting.

Mountbatten was a substitute father , Queen Mother a substitute mother, and they were certainly not the best of
friends.

Mountbatten wanted his granddaughter to be the next queen
consort, and Johnnie Spencer and Lady Fermoy had the
Spencer girls lined up.

It was just to illustrate they had a relationship before Diana. When was her first time at Balmoral?

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 20:11:16

Thank you for the link annepl, one error, Diana had holidayed at Balmoral before .

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 18:22:49

Camilla and Charles were part of a ‘country set’, Anne too. A group of close friends who could be trusted , hunting, shooting, fishing, polo. Anne had a relationship with Parker
Bowles, he is Godfather to Zara.

A case of two friends who became closer when in unhappy
marriages. It happens, their relationship is based on friendship
over years.

Camilla encouraged Charles to marry Diana - perhaps the right thing to do for the country? But I doubt either of them realised she'd always be so empty-headed & flirty. The last thing Charles, as a very thoughtful & caring man, needed. I remember my mother used to copy one of Diana's most flirtatious expressions - head down, eyes up. She didn't realise it looked even more ridiculous on an older woman.

eazybee Sun 19-Jul-20 17:37:43

'They' didn't stop Charles from marrying Camilla; he wouldn't commit and by the time he returned from his stint in the Navy she had married Parker-Bowles. He wasn't forced to marry Diana either, but I think some of the possible brides on offer were aware of Camilla's influence and wisely departed elsewhere.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 16:45:42

Espee there were other men in that marriage

Did anyone see the photos of Princess Beatrice In her dress a vintage dress owned by her grandmother 1961/62 she looked beautiful and the fact that she didn't want to release the photos till today as she didn't want to take the shine off sir Tom's day. Fair play to her ?

Chardy Sun 19-Jul-20 15:37:09

Songstress60 - do you not think Marcus Rashford might deserve something for his work on child poverty?

Joplin Sun 19-Jul-20 15:09:34

And Beatrice is now a stepmother......

songstress60 Sun 19-Jul-20 15:04:00

I was glad to see Sir Tom get knighted, but I will NOT be happy to see any celebrities have any honours this year. It should all be key workers. Why should you knight or give an OBE to an overpaid actor or footballer!! If they are knighted I will personally go on their facebook page and tell them they do not deserve it.

Esspee Sun 19-Jul-20 14:32:42

The “other woman” in a marriage, when she finally gets her man, shouldn’t be surprised when the public refuse to accept her as their Queen.
I have zero tolerance for infidelity.

Direne3 Sun 19-Jul-20 14:14:32

Well said in both posts langelei.

Sharman Sun 19-Jul-20 13:53:52

They should have let Charles marry Camilla in the first place as he has always loved her instead of forcing him to marry Diana who he didn't and that would have saved much heartache and bad feeling.
