Coronavirus track and trace

I received a message on my phone this morning which said that I had been near someone with Covid 19 but that was it. So what am I supposed to do? Have received no further instruction so far. Tried ringing 111 but can’t get through. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do? Any advice gratefully accepted.

The very reasons I didn’t download it it’s useless
please stop calling it a NHS App it is not it’s SERCO

Nhs could be used as every hospital has a very stringent tracking system used in their Sexual health clinics but of course SERCO is a money making machine for some

And so it goes on , with no penalties for poor performances.

Servo contract renewed has made 165 million profit for shambolic test and trace

If you go on the Covid app and read through everything, it tells you this could happen. It’s from google not the App.
If it’s a real message you will get a countdown clock to isolate whereas this message disappears and you can’t retrieve it.
This happened to me last night and I really panicked !

Barrygirl exactly as you said it was a little red dot ? on the phone which alerted me and when I pressed it came up with the message you have been near someone with Covid 19. As you say B9Exchange I think it was generated by my phone rather than the app. I received another one today actually. I’m so glad that I posted this as all your brilliant replies and the websites you have listed are really helpful. These replies will also help other posters who have a similar experience. So a big thanks again to all of you who took the time to reply.

Won't work on my phone, and it has been inundated with errors on my families phones, I shan't be buying new. I shall just use me noggin and stick to being careful. This was doomed to failure sadly.
World beating my backside! lol

World beating, isn't it?

These are algorithm sent out by your Apple or Google who made the app and they're in the process of trying to remove this problem. If you get a proper Track and Trace message it will be in the app when you open it and will tell you what to do.

The GOV.co.uk site is very helpful

FlotheCrow Sat 10-Oct-20 15:04:00

Ignore it. It may be a scam.

Greciangirl Sat 10-Oct-20 15:03:26

Sounds like it’s more trouble than it’s worth to me.

Self isolate for 14days

Thanks to your daughter. Excellent info. Not that I can download the app either. My phone is too old and I can’t afford to upgrade. Therefore I’ll just be taking the normal precautions of washing hands, wearing a face covering and keeping my distance. It’s going to be a long winter. Keep well everyone

Please see the BBC article on false alarms being sent out by the App. I had two a couple of days ago and spent 2 hours trying to find out if they were legitimate. Mine simply disappeared when I tapped on them. Take care.

DH’s phone says the same as yours.
He won’t be buying a new one.

It was a ghost message. I’ve had two. I looked into it and there is a glitch on apple and other android phones. When you click on the message it disappears. What should happen is that you get more details.

Rose30 Sat 10-Oct-20 10:31:40

I cannot download the track and trace app to my iPhone as it says I need IOS 13 (or something) and my phone does not have this spec. Do I have to buy a new iPhone to get it? Sounds like it is more trouble than it's worth!

Missingmoominmama Sat 10-Oct-20 10:15:48

Bassgranny- it is genuine- we checked. I get phone calls every couple of days, to check I’m isolating too.

Barrygirl Sat 10-Oct-20 10:15:38

If it was received via a little red dot appearing on your phone, it is an error - it happened to me and I goggled it. The only time you need to isolate is when you receive an official text/message which outlines how you should isolate. This is a glitch in the app.

SueEH Sat 10-Oct-20 10:10:30

The app will let you know if you have been “near” to someone who has subsequently tested positive. But you will only have to quarantine if you were closer than 1 metre for over 15 minutes. And if that is the case you will receive a communication telling you what to do.
If you don’t hear anything then you were not close enough for long enough and you don’t need to do anything. It was just letting you know!

BassGrammy Sat 10-Oct-20 10:07:00

Missingmoominmama, that looks different to the notifications we got. Ours came up as a notification Which when clicked on, took us to the NHS site, but then disappeared. If yours is genuine it should show some sort of self isolation countdown on the track and trace app I think.

Missingmoominmama Sat 10-Oct-20 09:56:23

This was the initial text. It had my name at the top.

B9exchange

This sheds light on it, I think you have had an alert generated through the system on yiur phone, not the app. So you might have been in the same vicinity as someone with CV19, but too far away to have been at risk, you don't need to isolate!

Thank you for this. I received the banner message which then disappeared. I thought it might be a scam, but was a little concerned as I had been into a shop that morning, so have not been anywhere for a week or so just in case.
