My husband and I really really kept ourselves to ourselves, self isolated at home or our caravan and did 1 weekly supermarket shop per week only, always masked and hand washing etc. The virus got into the household, we all tested positive, have been really ill and in fact my husband was taken by ambulance into a covid ward on Saturday. Thankfully he does seem to be improving but this has left me with scepticism that the measures do not seem to be achieving what was hoped. And in relation to masks affecting breathing, I wore one while packing up a parcel for the post office, and was really struggling to breath through it, something I hadn't suffered with before so my poor struggling lungs were having to work far harder to deal with it.

Unwanted views on the pandemic
(97 Posts)I popped down to our local shop today wearing a mask. I had just reached my car with my shopping bag when a lady walked towards me with a little dog.
I stepped back to let her and the dog past when she said loudly "There is no pandemic, it's all a hoax".
I appreciate everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I was simply being polite and letting her pass, so why lecture me on covid?
It was unnecessary and annoyed me!

We live in Sweden where the rules have been different to any other country in the world, but at last the government is wakening up and we are having some restrictions, alas no mask wearing which I think would make things safer.
I’m afraid the myth that Sweden didn’t lock down but everything was ok and their economy isn’t suffering doesn’t seem to be going away no matter what happens there now and in the future.

I suspect EllenVannin lives in the Isle of Man or is from the IOM judging by her name.
There was also a ship called the Ellan Vannin from the IOM that sunk in 1909 on its way to Liverpool very sad.

Well Floxglove, she was partially right.
In the beginning there was cause for alarm with Covid.
It HAS gone now - listen to Ivor Cummins he knows what he is talking about - FACTS!
He has all the figures and charts and has been studying world wide not just UK.
It is a seasonal virus - strange really - there doesn't appear to be any flu this year!! CHECK - don't just take my word.
Refer to Daily Mail where DOH has apologised for misleading figures.
Vitamin D blood level (not vitamin or supplement) is a good marker for metabolic health, particularly covid. Studies came out that showed that copd people, insulin resistant mostly, had about 10 times the risk, cardiac, 10 times the risk of death from covid.
98.5 % of fatalaties in Italy had multiple copd - insulin resistant.
If you are below 29 nanograms blood level you are metabolically in trouble and are 10 more times likely to die than those above 32 nanograms.
Answer - get a healthy diet.
A professor agreed to have a debate with Ivor - but guess what - he ran away!
Yeah sure - we're all going to take notice of the Daily Mail! Dear lord, save us from idiots.
I was of the understanding you only need to wear them indoors or in highly populous areas? I'm not in the UK though, so I could be wrong.
I have an idiot colleague who hates wearing a mask and will wear it under his nose. It makes it very hard to police the students (who DO all have to wear them here) when a staff member doesn't.
At times I snap at him. He's 10 years younger than me and likes to play at being a naughty student (deluded old fool).
I think the answer is to say ‘I’m wearing a mask to protect the likes of you so please do me the courtesy of not criticising me for doing so’.

Dh and i went for a walk in the local park/reservoir and not one person had a mask on and we saw the minimum of 60 people.
I will be wearing one for years to come ai this rate.
And Foxglove77 their are stupid/ignorant people everywhere.
You did the right thing too.
If in doubt, tap your ear and look puzzled whilst saying "Pardon?" in as bad a french accent as you can manage.
If nothing else, it will amuse you no end.
They are welcome to track me on my exciting trip to Sainsburys !
Gweneth Loved it.
At a checkout in B & M this morning
the cashier said "I'm not having the vaccine - there's a microchip in it so we can be tracked"!! I give up!

There are over 200 covid patients in Hull hospital. 5 died over the weekend. In East Yorkshire and Hull we are all wearing masks and keeping our distance. It is frightening here with this explosion of positive cases. You are talking nonsense.
Gwyneth
Foxglove your unpleasant experience reminds me of a similar one I had during the first lockdown. Everyone was following the rules re social distancing etc except for one man. He was going back and forth along the aisles at random and disregarding any distancing. I was at the bread when he came behind me, leant over me actually touching me. There was no excuse me or anything. I asked him politely, although I was angry to keep his distance. He shouted out ‘I haven’t got Covid’ . I replied ‘ That’s fine but how do you know I haven’t got it.’ He made a quick exit.
Lovely ? I wish I could be as quick witted.

Oh dear
I stood aside for somebody and they angrily said "I don't have covid" to which I responded "I'm just recovering and have been told I am not contagious but who knows". They said no more
Thank you for all your responses. Some great ones here and they have restored my sense of humour. I'm never quick enough for a smart response, but did think to myself later "you can't fix stupid".
Or perhaps you should of said, " you won't mind if I spit on you then". She probably would have run away from you! ? Its easy to think of something afterwards, what a silly woman she was. I often wonder how these deniars would react if they were face to face with someone who had actually got covid.
People are all different in the way they interpret the information we get. I was in a supermarket some time ago and a fellow shopper and I both wanted to speak to customer services. We were both wearing masks and were about a metre apart but this shopper turned to me and told me in no uncertain terms to leave two metres between us. I didn't argue, just moved back. As she was leaving, she came right up to me, patted my arm and said, "Bye dear." ???
In fact Sashabel you’ve provided the perfect riposte! Can be used by Foxglove and anyone else who needs it.
‘Did Elvis tell you that personally?’
@Sashabel ?????
My dh has a fairly advanced lung disease, and is classed as clinically vulnerable. Because of this he rarely goes out, but a mask turns him from merely breathless to really struggling to breathe. He has tried!

Good for you Gwyneth there's always one isn't there?
Sad but that's folk for you. You just have to try hard to ignore the nasty ones and certainly don't respond. They're just not worth it and...... the space kept you safe. Great!
