Congratulations!! Whoever you are???

Bazza Wed 09-Dec-20 15:48:20

I had a text today from my surgery in angry capital letters saying DO NOT RING THE SURGERY, WE HAVE NO VACCINE YET AND WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN WE WILL BE GETTING IT! Poor receptionists must have been inundated. I’m sure we will be contacted in due course.

EllanVannin Wed 09-Dec-20 15:45:51

I feel so awful right now as the surgery have just rang inviting me for my vaccination and because the call was out of the blue and my mind hadn't been made up there and then I asked if I could ring back.
There was a possibility that the nurse/sister who does my INR's would have done it on Thursday. Isn't it an awful feeling when you're indecisive about these things when you know that there could be an adverse effect ?

I don't think its gloom and doom at all Grannygrumps1!

I think it just makes it even more clear that as many people as possible should have the vaccine, to protect themselves. You might still get the virus but it won't be nearly so serious.

Anniel Wed 09-Dec-20 15:19:29

Do you think the UK government will eventually send the vaccine to other Commonwealth countries? I hear some has arrived in Barbados and was surprised it was done so quickly. I am 86 with heart and kidney problems so if I was back home I would be in the queue! St Lucia has fared reasonably well with only two deaths so far but Australia was hit hard but the strict rules have brought numbers down. I think NZ is OK but.Canada has quite a lot of cases. Then there are many African countries in the Commonwealth so I guess we wait and see. Good luck everyone.

I know two people that had it yesterday. Both nhs staff. They both have aching arms today the same as you would get from the flu vaccination. One has has a headache since the jab and was told if it lasts the week she will need to see her GP.
Being x nhs staff I know you will not be allowed to chose which vaccine you receive.
I have also been told that yes it protects you from the virus. But a big BUT. if you come into contact with the virus you can still catch it and you possibly won’t have any symptoms - here’s the BIG BUT....... you can still transmit it to others.
Sorry to be doom and gloom.

Been part of the Oxford University vaccination trials for a while now so I was injected with something - could've been a placebo, though.

Mimi22 Wed 09-Dec-20 14:40:58

Esspee - seems that the kickback is from a need to defend, when there is nothing to defend, no kickback necessary. Always here if you want support.

pamdixon Wed 09-Dec-20 14:35:37

My husband has just been given appointment for a jab next week - does that count?! He is 81.

felice, I am saddened to hear that you are nervous. I wonder what it is that you are actually worried about. The fear has been ramped up to such a degree that logical thinking is over powered. Everyone is doing what makes the most sense to them at the time. It only becomes an issue when you want someone else to do/think what you want/believe in. I believe that the vaccination will do far more harm than good and simply cannot understand why anyone in their right mind would voluntarily stand in line to be injected. Seems like the majority here have the opposing view and can't wait. In means nothing other then we think differently. I have no wish to have others think what I think, or for me to think like them. It's a non-issue and life goes on. If you take away whatever it is that other parents are doing/not doing in the playground is there anything else that leaves you feeling anxious at pick-up?

Well said Mimi22. I have received abusive responses on here for daring to say I have no intention of joining the queue until I feel it is safe to do so. I do not wish to persuade others, frankly it is none of my business what everyone else chooses to do but it is amazing to me that other gransnetters seem to feel entitled to denigrate my choice.

My mum in law is having the vaccination on Sunday.

aggie Wed 09-Dec-20 13:58:52

I am 83 , they forgot me for the Flu jab , so I don’t expect the Surgery to remember me for this one
I did ring up for the Flu one , and it took ages to get through , then I was spoken to as if I wasn’t capable

Warning:
People with allergies are being advised not to have the Pfizer vaccine after 2 people have become ill after vaccination.
News story here:

The day I expect 'news' from the Daily Mail to be even half true, will be a long time coming!

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 13:18:32

Well, your decision of course Mimi22. That's a shame.

Mimi22 Wed 09-Dec-20 13:17:02

Thank you Alegrias2. I won't be participating.

felice Wed 09-Dec-20 13:13:31

Mimi22, I have a severe allergy so am concerned, I sent my GP an email earlier and he is going to call me tonight, to re-assure me.
He had included me on his early list as he know my family circumstances but is happy to have a chat.
I will be happy to have it as the school gate can be a bit daunting as so many of the parents just ignore the teachers telling them to queue then move away from the door when their child is brought to them.
I stand well away and a teacher brings DGS to me but still nervous.
No flu jab this year as it could have affected my medication.

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 13:06:39

Strangely enough mimi22, I do have the list!

This is a multidose vial and must be diluted before use. 1 vial (0.45 mL) contains 5 doses of 30 micrograms of BNT162b2 RNA (embedded in lipid nanoparticles).

COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2 is highly purified single-stranded, 5’-capped messenger RNA (mRNA) produced by cell-free in vitro transcription from the corresponding DNA templates, encoding the viral spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2.

List of excipients
ALC-0315 = (4-hydroxybutyl) azanediyl)bis (hexane-6,1-diyl)bis(2-hexyldecanoate)
ALC-0159 = 2-[(polyethylene glycol)-2000]-N,N-ditetradecylacetamide
1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine
cholesterol
potassium chloride
potassium dihydrogen phosphate
sodium chloride
disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate
sucrose
water for injections

Did that help? hmm

At last an excellent reason to celebrate great age! I salute you all for being our elders and being first to get the jab!

Mimi22 Wed 09-Dec-20 12:41:57

Having read through this thread I am guessing that you have located a list of the vaccine contents somewhere? I am looking for a complete list so that I can see what I want to know before voluntarily invading my body with chemicals/neurotoxins etc. Can anyone please help? For me, it is not enough that I am being told 'it is safe'. I would rather pose questions before I reach a point of no return. I am hoping that you are open to sharing whatever it is that you know. Thanks in advance.

Autumnrose Wed 09-Dec-20 12:32:26

I am not over 80 but over 70 so will be in one of the early groups to be offered vaccination which I will of course take. However I believe the government has got its priorities wrong. The first people to be vaccinated should be those working in the NHS and care homes. I feel the next in line should not be the elderly but those who can’t work from home because it is imperative to get the economy working again. I would gladly give up my vaccination slot to anyone in these categories.

MaizieD

^You used the forbidden phrase! I'm not anti vax, but.... ?^

Well, I really am not. Anti-vax is just plain silly and illogical.

But people should be aware of contra-indications.

I know MaizieD, I was just joking, sorry.

I also thought Margaret looked so much younger than her age, it is because she isn't grey. Personally I think Grey is so ageing and puts years on you. But hey ho at the end of the day it is about being healthy! Great a woman is the first to have the vaccine.

JenniferEccles Wed 09-Dec-20 12:25:00

Please no scaremongering allergic reaction stories!
We need to be encouraging people to have this vaccine, not potentially scaring folk with tales of a minority who it appears already have severe allergies to other things.

If it was a common occurrence, it would have shown up in the clinical trials wouldn’t it?
