In the same way as the Polish government have managed

The polish embassy gave delivered some water & bread rolls. I’m not sure that’s really sorting out the problem.

vegansrock Tue 22-Dec-20 21:44:46

And how would all these governments be shipping over the facilities for their drivers if the port is closed?

lemongrove Tue 22-Dec-20 21:45:58

Not happy to leave drivers without facilities but instead of blaming our government why not look to the cause and insist that their government looks after them

Because it suits posters political agendas. Of course it’s Macron’s fault to suddenly deny entry to French and other EU Nationals driving those lorries, it was a deliberate action because he needs credibility at home, he isn’t popular.

They have embassies with access to Tesco!

vegansrock Tue 22-Dec-20 21:46:56

Is it Macrons fault that 60 other countries have travel bans too?

To be fair there are only 4 lorry drivers without access to meals, hot showers and gleaming toilet facilities.

vegansrock Tue 22-Dec-20 21:48:00

Didn’t know Tesco had showers and toilets, I think access to food is the least of their worries.

So your solution is that the French embassy puts in an order for sandwiches and toilets with Dover Tesco?

That would work but not on Xmas week -
no delivery slots available until the 28th

Macron has apparently agreed to allow French Nationals and EU members to go back to France.

So, not Covid related then, if it was they would all have to have a Covid test before leaving the U.K.

They have to have a negative test within the last 72 hours

vegansrock Tue 22-Dec-20 21:54:25

They can return with a negative test according to BBC news.

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 21:55:17

Literal again. Lots of outlets around Dover. If the very generous Sikhs can do it I’m sure the pull of the French Ambassador could arrange sandwiches and water.
Toilet facilities in most cabs, otherwise grass verges will have to suffice. Logistically impossible to provide for several thousand toilets with a days notice but food and water more important.

lemongrove Tue 22-Dec-20 21:56:06

My solution is that we don’t do anything, there will soon be pressure on Macron to open the border again, from his own Nationals. There could have been testing carried out in Calais if that was what he wanted.....but no, he wants the UK to carry out tests and put up with the disruption. So, yes, many do put the blame squarely on Macron.

vegansrock Tue 22-Dec-20 21:56:36

Don’t let facts get in the way of slagging off “the French”. Johnson isn’t fully acquainted with facts either , so it’s unsurprising that his fans aren’t,

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 22-Dec-20 21:57:38

Sorry everyone, I got the wrong end of the stick on that one.?

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 21:57:45

Oh so there we are all over bar the shouting c’est la vie,
Past my bedtime, it’s been a blast, goodnight

vegansrock Tue 22-Dec-20 21:57:50

Laura is happy for Kent to become the toilet of England. I don’t think the locals are.

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 22-Dec-20 21:58:30

Excuse me Vegansrock one error on posting does not make me a Boris fan.

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 21:58:46

Never mind oopsadaisy it’ll be over soon the unions aren’t happy with M Macron, the pressure’s on.

Nezumi65 Tue 22-Dec-20 21:58:57

Well my given that France is a sovereign nation it can close its borders whenever it likes. But given that 40 odd other countries don’t seem that keen on having people in from the U.K. & Northern Ireland is quarantining those of us from the mainland for 10 days it seems slightly blinkered to suggest this is just Macron being French hmm

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 21:59:17

Point out where I said happy

lemongrove Tue 22-Dec-20 22:00:08

?moon goodnight Laura
There are some good things on tv just now....and a brew calls me with a festive biscuit or two.

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 22:03:14

Nezumi your statement that M Macron is just being French is a bit xenophobic

vegansrock Tue 22-Dec-20 22:04:13

Plenty of countries require a negative covid test before anyone from a hotspot enters that country. Even their own nationals.

Read it again.

I was suggesting others are being xenophobic
