Things are getting serious as France is because of covid is blocking lorry movements.

Callistemon - the lorry drivers being spoken to are there. Or are you suggesting they’re all making it up? There isn’t one place anyway. Drivers stuck on the motorway will be having a different experience than ones who have found a hotel room (as a German lorry driver who has found a hotel room pointed out).

Retiredwell

Very few articulated vehicle tractor units have fridges installed in their cabs if any. There is just a bunk behind the driver and passenger seats and that's it.

When the vehicles are in normal use they are usually parked up at a service area at the conclusion of the drivers regulated hours of driving and where the driver has toilet, wash and hot food facilities. They then just bunk down in the cab.

In the above, they can keep going comfortably several nights on the trot but not when they are parked on the side of a motorway with absolutely nothing by way of facilities.

Hello, how are you?
?

Maybe speak to someone who is there?

Maybe turn on news 24 & you can see various different drivers saying they have no access to food/water/toilets.

Nezumi65 Tue 22-Dec-20 20:10:54

They also said they have been given one cereal bar since yesterday

Nezumi65 Tue 22-Dec-20 20:10:34

They have just said they have no access to water or toilets. Earlier there were different lorry drivers saying the same. They are relieving themselves in the fields and by the side of the road.

Watch BBC news 24 now - angry lorry drivers with no access to water or toilets.

It must all be fake news (according to some hmm).

Yes.

They are angry at being held up and quite rightly.

But yes, facilities and food are available

How do you know that toilet facilities are being provided? The media and tweets from the drivers themselves suggest they're not.

I do.

Every Country has a right to control its borders obviously.

I just wonder why posters on GN are blaming the UK Government for the chaos these closures are causing?

Personally, I haven't blamed anybody. Why are people blaming Macron?

For that matter, why are some people always so keen to find somebody to blame?

Well a few lorry drivers have just been on bbc saying they have no access to food or toilets and are weeing/craping in fields/beside the road

Callistemon Tue 22-Dec-20 19:54:03

There is no evidence of Britain looking after the welfare of those drivers trapped at Dover this week. They have been left there on the M20 with no toilet facilities, no food, and no personal hygiene requirement needs being distributed.

Do you have evidence to prove that, Retiredwell?

As hold ups have been anticipated - not, of course to the extent that has happened because of COVID, the traffic is being well managed.
There are toilet and food facilities available and most of the lorry drivers have fridges etc for their own food in their lorries always as contingency in the event of hold ups.

lemongrove Of course this has everything to do with Brexit. It is yet another example of the lies told by those wanting us to leave the EU. Or have you already forgotten that we (apparently) had to leave to get control of our borders.

Macron is doing absolutely nothing to repatriate French Citizens, he has caused the chaos he should take responsibility for it!

He won’t of course, he’s muscle flexing as there are French elections in the near future, hope the French lorry drivers remember that they were stuck for days because of it.?
Once again ( for those who blame Brexit for everything)
This has nothing to do with it .....( I know, a disappointment
Isn’t it?)?

paddyanne Tue 22-Dec-20 19:34:40

wont need to reopen them GrannyGravy13 we wont be importing OR exporting anything to the EU in a few days ...in charge of our own borders isn't that what you voted for?

Retiredwell Tue 22-Dec-20 19:25:59

Apologise I forgot to post link my above post.

Had we felt the need to close our borders at such short notice we would be working to repatriate our nationals and to feed them in the meantime, it’s what we do.

There is no evidence of Britain looking after the welfare of those drivers trapped at Dover this week. They have been left there on the M20 with no toilet facilities, no food, and no personal hygiene requirement needs being distributed.

That is what we do, meaning nothing. There are also some reports of lawlessness breaking out in Dover town centre tonight close to the port entrance.

Nezumi65 Tue 22-Dec-20 19:12:07

If we have a no deal we’ll have far more problems than a few lorries blockading somewhere (not sure why they would but we’ll see).

Chappy on BBC has just said that EU states remain sovereign and can control their own borders. I am assuming this is news to some people.

oh my, GG13, do we really have to explain ?!?

Please do

I don’t think stranded hauliers can be blamed for a no deal Brexit - they’re not just from France anyway. In the event of a no deal I don’t think we’ll need hauliers to cause chaos. That will be entirely of our govts own making. Kerching (for Rees Mogg).

I am not blaming the hauliers for a no deal Brexit - but if that’s the outcome and it effects foreign hauliers the French hauliers unions will be the first to blockade the French ports. They have done so in the past and will in all probability do so again.
